    Bravo Robin, welcome to the world of custom Lego accessory goodness. I wanted a train yard for my trains a few years ago and stumbled upon 4D Brix, which is an English company who make the same types of pieces you just purchased. They also have a fine product line with all the different sizes of curves and switches.
    Something you might be interested in, is the fact that they also have a good selection of Lego style monorail track, which I suspect are cheaper than sourcing old Lego monorail track. If you are interested, check them out.

    • @BrickHaulOClock
      @BrickHaulOClock  4 месяца назад +3

      Yeah I've seen them although I think they've stopped doing the monorail track. I may have enough as I've been sent four straights, and had a slope and a couple of corners left as it was. We'll see!

  • @Vegardye
    @Vegardye 4 месяца назад +15

    Just be aware that wider trains might hit eachother if you put them on the no gap switch tracks, but they also make 4 brick gap ones, and then you can put some electrical boxes in between😊
    Fun scene idea: use one of your spare 60051 noses to make the front of a train poking out of a tunnel facade with the driver holding a brakelever with a scared impression😅
    (Sorry for my bad english)

    • @BrickHaulOClock
      @BrickHaulOClock  4 месяца назад +4

      First of all your English is perfect.
      The tunnel is a fun idea. I have spare noses.
      I think all my passenger trains should be ok with the zero gap given they are six wide but we'll soon find out!

    Nice to see that you have “fallen” for trixbrix, they are a fantastic addition to any serious train layout. Usually straight and curved tracks are injection molded and switches and crossings are printed. They have fantastic ballast plates to make it even more realistic and that’s why the underside of the tracks are consistent with antistuds. Just beware of the zero gap - the trains will bump sideways

    • @BrickHaulOClock
      @BrickHaulOClock  4 месяца назад +2

      Many thanks to you both. Yes it opens up a lot of things but I'm not going to do sweeping curves and complex rail yards because of the space it takes and how hard it is to integrate. The more space efficient stuff is amazing though!

    Pretty impressive! I think that’s a totally fair exception to the rules. Lego should be making stuff like that in the first place.

    • @coasterblocks3420
      @coasterblocks3420 4 месяца назад +3

      Agreed. Especially since LEGO keeps pulling back from supporting the model railroading hobby, having abandoned making crossings, double crossovers, compact points and apparently the essential rubber/silicone o-rings for their own driver train wheels which they do still sell 🤷🏽‍♂️ 🤦🏽. The Orient Express for example can be motorised but LEGO has chosen to make the experience as painful for enthusiasts as possible by not including the o-rings in the set.

    • @BrickHaulOClock
      @BrickHaulOClock  4 месяца назад +5

      I don't understand LEGO sometimes. I guess they make most money from kids but the adult market for train extras has got to be massive globally!

  • @TheMagmaKnigh
    @TheMagmaKnigh 4 месяца назад +1

    The tracks that have narrow gauge and the wider (or standard) gauge, do exist in real life. It's called dual gauge track where two gauges use the same common rail and run inside eachother. You would see this in indistrial areas (like a mine) where a narrow gauge line that services the industry and can fit through all the tight gaps would transload with a standard gauge line that would deliver all across the country.
    They aren't as common anymore but there used to be a ton of them before modern cars and trucks took over.

  • @AstroKnight118
    @AstroKnight118 4 месяца назад +1

    You could add some industries (places the railroad serves) like a quarry for a gondola car or a forest for a log car. I think it would add even more life to the city.

    Almost all Trixbrix curved & straight standard gauge track is now injection moulded. Their narrow gauge track & all switches (points) are still 3D printed though another third party track maker BrickTracks does make injection moulded wide radius switches (points).
    I started my journey down the third party track when I wanted to make use of the official narrow gauge LEGO track, only to find they only made curves. This also led me to Circuit Cubes who make a tiny motors & rechargeable hub combo to motorise my narrow gauge train.
    I’ve only had a few minor problems with 3D printed parts. One was an artefact from printing causing derailments, which was easy to shave off to create a flush surface. And one component of a switch set which had weak clutch power, fixed by connecting the two pieces with a 1x2 tile.
    It is such a glorious thing to watch a train gracefully speed around a wide radius curve!

    It must be the most monochromatic Brick'Hall O'clock ever ! 😅
    I'm less convinced by the zero gap junction. You need at least 2 studs, one on each side, to allow clearance, isn't it ? Even a small door handle on a 8-studs train will clash on the next track. 🤔
    I have always heard good feedback on Trixbrick's products.

    I have a narrow gauge mine train. Its a Great Laxey Mines Railway "Ant" and a couple of tubs. I do worry that the zero gap won't give enough loading gauge between trains on adjacent tracks (so if your trains are 8 studs wide, then there will be zero gap between not only the tracks, but the trains too, and any additional width from handles etc will get knocked off)

    Maybe you could set up a lever or something on the switch to get it to turn between directions after the last car so two circles of track could share a length of it when on opposite sides of the city. Its amazing how much having a few more turn and junction options will open up potential layouts more like dedicated train layouts. Maybe a sky bridge or building struts of some kind could mount to some of the space between track lanes. Do these type of tracks have much tolerance to do gradual slopes over straight aways or would the track connections cause detailments from weight stress? It certainly sounds like the donation was good on their end if you are already brewing up ideas for the next order. ;p It might be worthwhile to check railroad modeling sources for ideas or solutions that the new piece variety can make viable.

    Fun Australia train fact triggered by the track you want to use for the mine carts. You see actual train lines on the interstate train line in Queensland with the three tracks because New South Wales (believe same as UK gauge or standard) and Queensland (narrower because it was cheaper to build/less material)have different gauges. And then there’s Victoria that has broad gauge which is even wider but we don’t go there.

      Haha, no. I'm not a fan of all the wires everywhere. I had a kit once and couldn't even finish putting it on the set as it was so ugly close up!

    I used to be a lego purest but I 100% changed that mind set so long as they are making things lego refuses to or can't make or in this one's case they are just feeling a gap lego themselves can't meet at the current time but also it doesn't hurt lego to have a little competition I still say lego should target the train fans like model train companies do and sell the locomotives separately from the cars that way they can lower the cost per set or add more details to the sets cause your not trying to make a full train in X amount of brick count also splitting them up alows people to buy more of what they want

      I think it's different when Lego offers zero options, and the only option is 3rd-party. The term "fake Lego" should be reserved for brands that are copying Lego products; brands that are transparent and just make Lego-compatible stuff like TrixBrix shouldn't be called "fake".

      Well there's fake LEGO and fake LEGO... Ideally there'd be an official option but there isn't, haha!
