i didn't grow up with tears for fears the same way a lot of fans did because I was born in 2000, but my mom always played their songs when i was little, and now they are probably my favorite band!! i wish i could go back in time and see them in concert when they were younger.
The main reason is that they want to keep the crowd engaged, the song is moving faster than most people are used to listening too so that makes them enthused and excited. Plus it is something different for the band themselves.
Most songs are put together like a puzzle. Put together in pieces in the studio. The band doesn't write the song, then practice playing the song until they record and produce it. Some bands do jam to write songs, and those songs sound as close to studio tempo when played live as possible. Other bands like Metallica bust their ass to get the studio tempo down with extensive pre touring rehearsals. Queen was known for doing this as well.
