    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  4 года назад

      For the amount of heat that comes through a coffee cup, it's okay. I wouldn't use it on something like a trivet that's for pans that come off a stove or something, though. Most of the time I would go with something more "refreshable" rather than something that will need stripping and refinishing eventually, but I was in a hurry on this batch, so I went with the fastest-drying thing I had on hand so I could get multiple coats done.

    I really wanted to know the ideal thicknsse for these boards?
    thank you for the share

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  2 года назад +1

      I wouldn't say there's an "ideal" thickness. I start with 4/4 (1") rough stock and plane it until it's flat, so they generally end up between 3/4" and 7/8" or so, but I've made them as thin as 5/8" when I've had very twisted wood to start with and they're fine.

    Are you using 3/4 inch thick boards? Do you think 1/2” would work? Great work!

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  4 года назад

      I start with inch-thick boards and they come out at about 3/4" when they're done. I probably wouldn't start with 1/2" boards, because they would end up too thin and prone to warping, I think, but if the finished thickness was 1/2", you'd probably be okay. But it's really hard to say, because every piece of wood is different and you can never really tell what it's going to do over time.

    You think French people are awesome? Spend a few days in Paris and get back to us.

      There are terrible (and excellent) people in every demographic or geographic region. I try not to paint groups of people in broad strokes.

      @@WoodenThingsAndStuff You're right, of course. It is just I have been to many countries and the Parisians seem to delight in being rude to visitors. Outside of Paris the French are wonderful, just not in the city. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel, thanks.

      @@ianbutler1983 Thanks for watching, Ian. Pretty sure that's the same everywhere, really. It'd like to think it's probably just because there are more people in closer proximity in big cities, so you come across the jerk-holes more frequently. Hahaha

      @@WoodenThingsAndStuff no it doesn't make me feel better about anything it makes me want to turn off the video with all the fluff and bs spewing that has nothing to do with the title of your video.... and I did. I fast forwarded to the end products and they are nice .
