You got balls man. To come out and talk about such things is courageous. This is the true side of social media. Most people only show the positive points and its tuff for people to relate to this perfect unuptainable life. I appreciate this. Nutrition plays a huge role in depression.

You got this bro. I don't know why this was recommended to me, but it was. As a person that has been addicted to both alcohol and opioids at the same time, I promise you that if you set your mind to it, you will be fine. I'm the same age and almost 7 years ago I lost everything pretty much to my addictions. Am I doing perfect now? No. Am I doing a lot better in life now, 100% yes. If you want or need someone to talk to, I'll be happy to if we can find a way to exchange info without it being public.

The hardest part about quitting alcohol is distancing yourself from your friends and family who drink. Got to be honest with them, you are on the right path.

From your other video: I pray you read this bro. I was in the same boat 7 years ago - I used to get drunk often, when I started drinking, I couldn't stop until I either passed out, wrecked a car, got into brawls, get thrown in the back of a police van, etc... I used to be a God-hating Militant "Atheist" - I also battled with extreme anxiety attacks and depression, I got to the point where I couldn't ever stop my drinking (I drove my car over two bikers' bikes one evening after a brawl), and had a massive lawsuit on my name, and contemplated taking myself out (if you get what I'm saying)... I honestly, out of desperation, knelt down and prayed to Jesus Christ, and 7 years later, my entire life turned 180° - I quit drinking, I was able to conquer my addiction to p**nography, I've not been on anti-depressants for 7+ years now, without a single anxiety attack... Life is still difficult, Christianity isn't the "cure all" solution, but you know what, feeling the presence of God in my life has carried me through a lot of hardships (even going through 3 miscarriages with my wife), and I've got no need to drugs, alcohol or p*rn in my life anymore. Trust in Jesus bro, I am a living witness of His existence, and that The Bible is real and true. Blessings in Jesus name.

Hey, just wanted to say. I found your channel thru the last video. Glad to see you’re doing well. I myself also go thru phases but the good news is, that’s normal and you’re a smart guy to know when a change needs to be made. Some things that help me out of these cycles is picking up another time consuming hobby. And even more important, recognizing that you are sad and learning how to let the sadness come and go. Feel those feelings, it’s what makes us uniquely human. Other than that I was surprised to see you aren’t totally famous ! The craftsmanship is top tier, instantly subscribed to see more !

I hope you heal well. You are stronger than you think if you can put yourself out there like that. Too few people, especially those who make at least part of their living from their social media brand, are willing to bring these issues to light. You will probably inspire someone else to make some changes that could save theirs or someone else's life. And as a chef and Registered Dietitian you are so correct that improving your nutrition will help you both physically and mentally. I truly wish you the best.

if you go to AA, don’t to get some time but done stay too long…. in all state sponsored treatment, including AA you can never recover. you’re always in recovery…. with Jesus Christ, you can be free. you can stop in your own power for a time, but not that long…. Gods grace is sufficient and through Christ you can do all things. change your medication, put Gods word in you. Start with the book of John. you can’t replace one physical thing with another thing, or i guess you can, but it doesn’t solve it. you can’t change your performance by changing your performance…. you change your input and you will start to transform… the power is in the Word….

I quit drinking nearly 6 years ago (for the Nth time) and this is the secret to success with sobriety from alcohol, for me: - Use replacement therapy, because the boredom will come. Find a healthy hobby... I drink a LOT of coffee and bottled water now 😂 - I use working out daily from home as a form of dopamine replacement - Remember that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. One is too many, and there's never enough once you start. - I've been taking a multivitamin + extra Vit. D for mental health and energy. You will feel a boost just from the vitamin B mainly at first. - Whenever you feel tempted to use alcohol as a crutch in your life remember all of the negatives... pain, hangovers, financial cost, ruined relationships, lost time and even worst lost health. The positives never outweigh the negatives. Short term fun = long term suffering Short term suffering = long term prosperity Good luck in your sobriety journey. Every day is a new beginning

Look up Korsikov syndrome. Its a form of dementia caused by heavy alcohol intake and no nutritional intake. It is a horrendous illness. My aunt ended up with it in her 50s, overnight lost her short term memory. Could remember things from childhood but would forget what anyone had said 10 seconds ago. The first step is recognising bad habits and maybe even the hardest step for soe is admitting that not only to themselves but to family friends and even strangers. Good luck buddy. God Bless.

    1. Replace alcohol with something else 2. Hold the memory of the bad effects, remember how bad the next day feels. Guilt/ Hangover. The hangover recall works well in tricking the brain to feel disgust at the thought of alcohol. 3. Pray to God. Ask Him for help and he WILL help.

Alcoholic induced dementia is a decent incentive to get off the booze if you can't moderate. I worked in an alcoholic ward at a mental asylum in the 80s. Saw the impact of what it can do. Most folks have no idea what it can do. In 2013, I helped dry out an old mate from being a alcoholic over two months. To celebrate his sobriety, he had some vodka. 🙄. He wouldn't listen to me when I said don't do it. Two years later, I had him on my ambulance stretcher, taking him off to die at a palliative care ward. He's was fully goblin green yellow all over, wearing an adult diaper in his mid 40s.. I'm not even sure if he knew it was me helping him. 5 days later he died from a slow death, liver failure. Just stop, don't try to moderate your drinking. My mate had to be on valium to prevent a fit occurring , while he was going cold turkey. It's important to talk to a Dr when you decide to totally abstain for this reason. Alcohol is the 2nd most dangerous drug to withdraw from, when you're seriously addicted like my mate was. 🇦🇺

Hi Mike! I feel like answering your call to engage in this challenging topic. First let me say it takes courage to come out like this. Secondly you’ve taken the first important step to acknowledge your (life)struggles The next step you now face is finding the solution(s). But first you have to know the source of the pain. Find the source and work on/from that. And that is the challenge you will face. Because your mind will want you to keep the manner of life you now have. The best part of it is; you can take control of your own life and therefore the situation you are in now. And as said; it is more complicated the you might think, but remember, the solution is within you. Let me explain. Spoiler alert: this might come on hard. I have experienced the same with my search of solutions to my depressions/trauma’s: All the things that (in you adult life) have happened, now happens and will happen to you are basically the result of your own doing/thinking/way of living. You are responsible for your own life and can take matters in to your own hands. You always have the choice to take lif in to your own hands. Whatever people or situations have done or still are doing to you: it is your own responsibility to deal with it. Meaning: You can do something about it. It is your choice to be in the situations that you are in. And it is you own capability to deal with and overcome it when you want to step out of the destructive patterns. So to live your life as you want/should be. To be (happy with) yourselve despite or thanks to all the ‘bad-broken-destructive and good-beautiful-healing-constructive’ things that are happening to and around you. Depression as I felt and dealt with is a symptom/outcome of trauma which has a deeper meaning and source. It is mostly to do with identity; who are you (Really. From the inside. Behind the curtains) and depression is the way of your body to say STOP to the manner of how you live/have lived. Most people (me included) who are suffering from depression are constantly living in anxiety. Nobody wants to fel that way and therefore we learned to cope with it with adaptation. So you have coping skills to survive in life. And how these coping skills play out in our lives is in fact different. One will want to drink, take drugs, sleep, all the things you can do to NOT feel that inner pain. And that makes sense in a way that we are not meant to live in anxiety. As I observed myself and people around me, I have noticed that people who suffer from depression/trauma’s are to kind for others and always way to harsh on themselves, having low self esteem, insecure, haver difficulties feeling and with their feelings and do not know and feel their own boundaries, are overcompensating, etc. In most cases it has to do with early life trauma. Yes it is a cliché, but in my view 99% of trauma is formed in our early years of life and played further out in our adolescence period. Which in fact in certain parts in you, you still not ‘grown up’ in. Trauma maybe sounds heavy, but In my opinion trauma can be a really small flesh wound up to a great mental wound(depression/anxiety) that feels will never heal, both physically and mentally. E.g. a (small) mentally trauma can be when you make a fool out of a person. That person can experience trauma because of that. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happened/happens to you (Gabor Mate). E.g. It is not the blow on the head, but the concussion you get. This is an example of visible physical trauma. But there is mental trauma that is the bases of destructive life. Finding out what causes your depression/anxiety is firstly to acknowledge those feelings. Also it is an opportunity to feel these emotions and understanding what happens to you. It is actually an invite to let these feelings be there and observe them and question them in terms of: why do I feel this way? What do these feelings want to tell me? The scary part of it all for me was to ‘dive’ in to the anxiety/feelings and let it happen inside me and observe and questioning the source of my feelings. Even though you want to deal with it on your own (because you think you must or because of shame, guilt etc.) talking to others and professionals eventually guided me through this process. And it will take (a lot) time, effort and will-power. I have taken a few years to overcome a lot of issues. And still developing my innerself. Even if the world around us shows destructive patterns we can choose to live another way. We are meant to live confident, self-aware self-secure and in co-regulation with others. Good nutrients are indeed helpful as well as water in the transition to a healthy self! Hopefully this helps you to understand what you (and others) are going through. And know: There is hope for everyone, because you can deal with your situations. You do not have to feel this way all your live. You can do something about it and turn the tables and live a full and responsible life. Take it in to your own hands. Best of life to you (all), Bart

Take it one day at a time and continue to improve your choices each day. I haven't had a drop in almost 15 years now and thats the way I did it. I didn't have a huge drinking problem but I was doing other things that came to a stop as well 15 years ago and I don't do them anymore either. You can do this man. The thing with ALL drugs is, if you use them regularly you get "used" to them, and alcohol is the exact same. I never really drank allot in my life, when I was 20'ish I went out at weekends with friends one night and drank 3 or 5 beers. We had times where we just grabbed some drinks at a gas station and drank outside at a park bench. I never had the feeling like I "need" to drink when I am home under the week, even though the place I lived at was a hellhole. Years later, in my late thirties, I had a time where I felt "down" and I would get me a bottle 2 liter wine and drink half of it, the other half the following day. Needles to say I was pretty loaded. Then I would not drink for a day or two, and then buy another bottle. I would take a 3 or 4 month timeout in between too. I would stop for a couple years, and start to get drunk in my early 40s sometimes, like every couple weeks. That was the time, I learned quite some stuff about alcohol. For once, if you don't drink for 3 to 6 months, your first beer will be like you are not used to it. The most dangerous part is, that if you're used to alcohol, once you're "far enough in" towards "drunken" for some reason you always just want to "drink one more beer". At least it is like that for me. What I found that works pretty well is to catch yourself as EARLY as you can, with one, two or three beers in... and just switch the drink you';re drinking. Get used to NOT DRINK regularly, only drink if you feel like you want to drink ONE beer, like to food, and then leave it at that one beer. Another thing with alcohol is, that if you're used to it, you will have the feeling like "uh, a beer would be right just about now". Don't give in to such wants, I stopped to smoke after smoking for 7 years, trying several times to stop. I would usually have the same feeling with cigarettes "a cig would be nice about now". After not smoking for 6 months, I found out that now I didn't miss smoking... but the hand-motion to my mouth. So I started to eat candy. For alcohol, if you get the feeling that " a beer would be good right now" then you better not drink anything for 4 weeks. Only when you get rid of that feeling, that tells you to consume alcohol, then you can drink one beer and leave it at that. I drink now really sporadic, sometimes a beer when I eat Bratwurst, sometimes 1-3 if I want to relax some. But always there are 1-4 weeks in between me drinking alcohol. Otherwise you WILL fall into the "being addicted" back and the whole cycle repeats. If I drink too much, and I feel that "getting addicted" feeling, I don't drink for 3 months, and that usually fixes that. For health you should not drink that much anyway, alcohol is a socially accepted drug, but that doesn't mean it isn't as addicting and troublesome as any other drug.
