  • One of my most challenging trips yet! This one was a pretty constant battering from gale force winds and rain. There was a lot of backtracking to avoid bogs and progress was slow. But also, it was so wildly beautiful and felt so remote. For the first time ever, I didn’t see a single person since leaving my car 💚
Despite its difficulties I loved this trip! It felt raw and humbling. However, I would not recommend this tent (Lanshan 2) in these kinds of conditions, particularly in cold weather.
There is a separate video about the tent, which was also filmed on this trip: • Testing Budget Lightwe...

Proper strong winds and plenty of rain and boggy terrain - spectators (Folk who've never actually DONE what you did.) won't understand how much effort those conditions require for even a half day hike, let alone three days and two nights. Your ability to be upbeat under such conditions, to laugh at yourself and the hardships and to get useable footage as well - you are a remarkable human being. If I had kids I'd want them all to be just like you.

agreed , i can bang out a 20+ mile hike with very little effort most days if i need to but there have been times on Dartmoor that 4 or 5 miles have utterly smashed me to pieces! wet grassy mounds are ankle killers and sap your energy , it gets into your hips your ankles and more importantly your brain!

Your channel is better than most for a simple reason…..you focus more on getting out. I’m so tired of all the kit review channels on here where they are obsessed with the lightest or newest kit. Encouraging people to get out with what gear they have is a good thing. Second-hand kit, anything just go with what you have but know the limits of what you have. Thankyou Claire for your great channel it’s encouraging to watch and a very positive goal for us all to go out and enjoy the outdoors. Greetings from a icy cold Finland!

    • @atrekwithdave

    • @urbanbugZA

I agree Finn, getting out iis key. Kit is something you need to research and get what works for you though kit reviews doe help with putting your own pack together

    • @WildBeare
      @WildBeare  Год назад +8

Aw thanks Finn :D I agree the main thing is just getting out! That being said, kit does have to be fit for purpose of course, safe enough to be out in whatever conditions you end up in. I do like to keep trying to improve my kit but it's a gradual thing, it's taken 5 years to get to where I am with it and I could never have done winter camping in the mountains with the kit that I started out with.. it would have been extremely dangerous. Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching my lil viddy :) best wishes from UK 🌿Claire 🐻

I love the ending quotes "As we all know life isn't going to
be perfect all the time (our jobs health
and relationships can't be perfect all
the time, people aren't going to be
perfect all the time and the weather
well that certainly isn't going to be
    perfect all the time)
but maybe this imperfection in itself is
    perfection
    because everything runs in Cycles
and maybe if we can learn not just to
tolerate those Cycles but to be filled
with gratitude just for the opportunity
to be here and to experience them fully.
I mean I'm still learning this but if we
can think that way then there's not a
lot that can ruin our day."

I tend to stick to campsites with more wind cover these days! Perserverance is key when dealing with weather! A positive attitude goes along way to drive that perseverance! You are so right, we should be filled with gratitude that we are here to be able to appreciate the cycles of life which are filled with many imperfections. The challenges you met on your expedition to the lake were imperfections that gave you a sense of achievement when you overcame them. It is great to see your open and honest account of what must have been a very tough trip in that harsh wind and rain. The production of your videos is so professional, and natural, thank you for sharing here in RUclips!

Hi John! Thanks so much for your lovely words, I'm so glad you enjoyed this :) Yep I'm still learning to appreciate the cycles.. it's so easy to get all caught up in the harder parts and forget that nothing lasts forever and that we are more resilient than we sometimes believe. It was a hard trip for sure, but as you said, harder ones can feel like quite an accomplishment haha! And they deffo stay with you. Thank you for watching my lil vid and hope you're having a nice week :) Claire 🐻

Now that was a proper adventure, crossing that sort of terrain is hard enough without wind and rain. Especially when it's that waterlogged. The sort of time when my camera gets put away while I concentrate on not falling on my face every two steps, yet you manage to get such good images and stay positive. I really like the way you cut your audio across clips, really adds something to the videos you make.

Another brilliant adventure, Claire! You have such beautiful countryside to hike and camp, and you are enjoying it to the full, well done!! There's nothing like being alone in the countryside with nature, and the stars on a clear night are fantastic. I grew up in the country where there was a clear view of the sky through pristine air and a huge vista of stars. I live in the city now and miss it like mad. The people that love the city have never seen the real world I'm afraid... Thanks for taking us along, that was epic!

i liked your closing statement about cycles and living within them and being grateful, not tolerant. I don't talk to many people these days, but that's a thought i've had on my own. Wasn't sure if that was reasonable or just some madness i came up with. Hearing it from someone else, it in fact sounds entirely reasonable and it's nice to know there are others who think similarly. A good example of the trade off you'll have to do when deciding which tent to use. Lightweight will be less sturdy in hard weather but easier to carry. A sturdy tent will be heavier and most likely more expensive. I really enjoyed watching this and I love that you did not complain for a second. That's quite unusual when I look at other camping videos on youtube. Most go on about "survival situations" and you just let out screams of joy. Very refreshing.

Such a contrast with your beautiful and fresh face in that hardcore autumn land. Amazing. And your smile all the time, even in rain, and the wind just wrecking your tent. But that dramatic sunset over the lake. You were right about avoiding those bogs, they can be very dangerous, especially with a heavy backpack. I almost disapeard in a hole like that.
