In the last 2 decades or so, populations in first world countries have been trained to virtue signal, big time. Of course, many people like viewing themselves as more altruistic and/or moral than they really are, it seems to be such a human affliction. But it has become disproportionately pronounced lately, and human mindset doesn't naturally change fast. The changes on a collective level as a species occur typically very, very slowly.

I'm just going to guess she is terribly selective which crime statistics to use and which not to use.
I honestly struggle to believe people would choose 50 strangers over the 1 person they love. In a situation like that (thank god this is highly unlikely to happen) it's impossible to stay that objective. I'm not loosing the person I love over just 50 other people, no matter who they are. Would it haunt me? yes, but I wouldn't regret it.
I feel like I would ruin the person I love by choosing to save them… Like if I were the person my partner chose over 50 people, I don’t think I could live with the guilt.

I'm sorry but I would sacrifice my partner and hope they would sacrifice me bc 50 children is too much guilt for me to handle, after that I'd probably have a miserable life after what I did and I'd probably off myself or something anyways. No therapy could help with that tbh bc it was entirely your choice. 😅
@@hannahanderson5658 I don't see why there would be any guilt from the perspective the person whose life was saved. No one should feel guilty for doing whatever it takes to stay alive, just like no one should feel guilty for injuring or killing in self-defense. If I were in that situation, I would 100% prefer to be alive and I would not feel guilty for it no matter who those people are. If I were on the other side and forced to choose between my partner vs. 50 people, though, that would weigh much heavier on my conscience because I actually have a choice. Wanting to live, on the other hand, is not a choice. It's the deepest instinct we have.
@@catinabox3048 I disagree. I absolutely feel like there are things worse than death. I would not do whatever it takes to survive. I would do whatever it takes to live a life of honor, even if it was a short one.

How? I know exactly how me and my boyfriend would answer every single one of these questions and neither of us would say anything that would've upset the other person. The only one I'm unsure about and think he would be unsure about (at least admitting it out loud) is hiding a body. We most likely would help the other person in the moment but its not an easy spot to picture ahead of time.
Anyone who wouldn't pick their partners life over 50 random children clearly doesn't love their partner. I don't care about other people's kids, they're almost as irrelevant as other adults. I'd pick my man's life over a billion peoples lives and I know he'd do the same because we both hate most people. It should be a no brainer to everyone.
