In May of 2022, I got the "Behind The Scenes" Tour of the Petrof Piano Factory, located in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, just hours away from Prague and Vienna. Petrof is a fully European built piano, started in 1864 and run by 5th generation Petrof, Zuzanna, and her daughter, Anna. It was a truly fantastic trip and they make a piano worthy of its heritage.

I went shopping and played dozens of pianos. In my opinion, Petrof makes the best sounding sub 6’ pianos out there. I don’t know how they do it, but side by side they are richer than any others grand in that smaller size. Over 6’ I have different preferences, but for “house scale” pianos, the tone is spectacular.

It's by Czech composer Smetana: Má vlast, JB 1:112: No. 2, Vltava (Arr. H. von Kàan-Albést for Piano)
