Not smoking or doing drugs, practice, training, experience, and never really blowing his voice out by trying to scream and shout in stupid ways. Also, the age has actually given his voice some depth and character, where it was a bit high and nasal on his very early work (something he admits himself). I can say my own voice has gotten better with age, not that it is anything on Numan's level, but I can't claim to be totally innocent of all the previously mentioned sins...
My idol. My inspiration. He was the reason I bought my first Moog when I was in HS back in 79 and taught myself to play keyboard. Gary is pure genius and powerful in concert.
When I listen to this, I get late 90s to early 2000's vibes. I remember first listening to this album while playing Ark Survival in the desert regions, and these songs fit in so well with the environment and theme. Good times.
Oh... my... GOD. This track encompasses everything Numan. From the chords to the progressions to the meter.... I cannot get enough. This is a damn good time to be alive. Love, love, love.
My Name Is Ruin....I identify with this song because this is how I actually feel inside. He always was a genius. And this album....how is it not getting nominated for any Grammys????? I love you Mr. Numan, music that finally I feel describes the true me. All these songs....are beyond brilliant. They are artistic pperfection.
Gary Numan is one of very few artists who only got better with age; I think Heavy Metal Synth Goth is something only Numan can do successfully. But in reality Gary Numan is so talented l really think he can do any genre of music if he was so inclined.
Gary has been killing it since 2000. The excellent "Pure" album. I feel it's when he truly got through all the bullshit with record label dramas through the 80's and 90's and found his niche once again. Soaring vocals, cutting edge instruments and great arrangements Edit: I meant from a career resurgence point of view.
Vocalising with the lead synth is your trademark Gary and this is a return to the your glory days. Been a fan since 79 and I love this new song as much as your early work. Well done on this composition sir. If the new albums as good as this track your onto a winner for sure.

Massive attack-Heligoland. David Bowie-Black Star, and this. It is dying planet music. Dark global realism. Though it cheers me up in the 'double negative making a positive' kind of way.
Jesse Maynard... You are talking nonsense! He didn't prey on anyone. Where is the proof? You read some rubbish after he died? You sound about 12. The type to believe anything, you read. How come that nonsense was never said when he was alive? He had groupies in the 70's who followed him around, it was common in those days. Half the bands in the 70's were preying on young girls, if he was, which he definitely was not . You want to be careful about getting your facts right, before spewing garbage. Otherwise you could get into trouble for slanderous comments. You jealous imbecile.
This song is so interesting on so many levels. The chorus is so colossal it evoked a feeling of it being a religious song, almost like a psalm. Then I listened to the lyrics and it is indeed a prayer, just one filled with anguish, mistrust and a feeling of powerlessness. Who can you pray to if you want to be saved from God?
Oh mama! I've only just got over how good "my name is ruin" sounds! I'm so there for the album! This is genius....pure talent and I can't wait to hear more!
He did "Queen of the Damned"; I'm not sure if he scored the entire film or he just contributed many songs for the film, but he definitely sang them for the film.
@@MEHDIZed3D Thanks for the info & your prompt response!! I remember Gary Numan since Middle School when "CARS" [A-side] and "METAL" [B-side] were released as singles on the "45 for the "PLEASURE PRINCIPLE" album release [1980].
Dystopian/industrial to the max. Goosebumps galore. Gary, thank you for being consistently awesome throughout the decades. And for inspiring Fear Factory to do the same.
Gary, I beg for excuse, because I did not listen to your music earlier. I knew your name from some of your live performances with Nine Inch Nails, and I loved your voice. But for some reasons I did not try to listen for your own music. Now it is fixed. I am really ashamed for losing 30 years without you.
I feel like this album is the spiritual successor to Warriors. Warriors is my favorite Numan album outside of the classic trilogy. This makes me happy.
Just heard it, first time.. Another superb Numan track. I've been a fan since 1978. He's an amazing artist, always so underrated. I'm looking forward to the new album, and I hope it rides high in the album charts both in the UK and in America :-)
Man, i've just checked out this and My Name Is Ruin. Still got it Gary Numan! Both tracks are awesome, i'll be sure to check the rest of this album when it's out!
Thank you for this song and whole album especially at this time when we feel we're having to navigate the fringes of apocalypse. I saunter through the wastelands with you...
Gary just keeps on putting out great music, I love the song "My Name is Ruin" hope Gary includes her in more up and coming tracks The whole cd is EPIC, if you don't have it get it you will LOVE it!
Gary may you continually know that you inspire and help others with your artistry - the new album is amazing - going forward I look for more wonderful stuff from you, you never cease to amaze with each new venture. Whilst Billboard has you at No.2, you are always Number 1 with your true fans.... Thank You
With this song including this song title Gary comes more and more closer to the message he is looking for. Really great! At first "My name is Ruin" with an awesome and great back vocal and now this song. The new album will be the best of all as I think. :) I am thrilled. :)
Ridiculous great song!!! Mr. Numan doesn't need much inspiration from other artists...he himself is 'the' inspiration for many, but maybe the artistic and personal friendship with Jean Michel Jarre........who knows...the both inspire one and another? Two abnormal big names...the biggest in the industry ;-}
Think Gary and his voice and music have aged very well.
this man is the god of synths and unique songs. Who agrees?
Evie George agreed
So basically you are just seeking acceptance for you to be able to justify your own opinions?
BadTrip did you have to make a simple comment a in depth descussion to justify your own opinions?
He got very repetitive to be honest...
well ... I think this is a redesign of a song of his from five to ten years ago, I just can't recall the name!
How has his voice actually got BETTER with age? incredible
Autotune

@@ciarancosgrave he sounds virtually the same live ... he always did dark and pathos well.
He has that high pith thing which makes his voice unique and nice.
Beautiful sound. Far from what god intended.
Saw him live in concert with Front Line Assembly and Ministry this year. They were all awesome but of the three acts he was amazing!
My idol.
My inspiration.
He was the reason I bought my first Moog when I was in HS back in 79 and taught myself to play keyboard.
Gary is pure genius and powerful in concert.
Right on, Gary. His work has inspired me from the Tubeway Army days, back when I was doing FM. I wish I still had the 2600.... (sigh)
Gary Numan is one of the deepest musicians of our times. GREAT ARTIST!
They should make a movie out of this. Starring Gary Oldman.
Symphonic synths, epic textures, Numan is the Wagner of the wave.
Take us home Gary.
Gotta Love Gary Nûmäń. 💓 🎶.
My favourite from Savage
Awesome! Just Awesome!

Since 1998 "Exile".
agree since Exile
How about 'Since 1994 "Sacrifice"'?
Killing it since Gary Numan.
"Pure" and the track "Dark" from the Dark City Soundtrack, really got me into Numan, so I agree, that Numan just kills it! :)
This whole album is just incredible.
On the first listen I thought this song was quite incredible. On the second listen, yes I was right! Wow!

Gary numan revives synth rock.

Hi
In this case, you can call it ART.
garygodsqwad totally agree with the woh hos
Loved him when I was 14 and still at 55. This is awesome!
He should make sound tracks for movies
Mehdi Khoddami
He does. 2014 From Inside, e. g.
They could have taken old Gary Numan songs as a soundtrack for the new Blade Runner 2049. Would have fit perfectly.
He did "Queen of the Damned"; I'm not sure if he scored the entire film or he just contributed many songs for the film, but he definitely sang them for the film.
@@eleni1968 as far as i know ( Jonathan Davis, and David Draiman , and chester from linkin park ) sang some songs in that movie

Whooah! Gary you're music is so intense! I absolutely love this
He is music? WHOA!
One of the greatest intros of all time
Sat in the dark, wood burner my only companion - with this album backing it all...it does not get better than this.
At this point in my life, I only have an interest in seeing 2 people in concert - Gary Numan and Grace Jones.
Excellent! Gary Numan you are genius! 🖤 I’ve listened to you since the 80’s, gotta say, you are still speaking to my soul.
been a fan since 79 I'm now 55 going to see him on Monday
I am revisiting many of Gary Numan post corona virus. I have to say his sense of isolation, despair and attire were predictive.
Possibly the best choice for a single release since I Die: You Die. This is a true Gary Numan track. Simply exquisite.

Never too late to discover a gem
I think this might be the best tune on a stunning album. And he hasn't even been playing it live. Looking forward to Glasgow October 10

I feel so foolish for not finding Gary Newman's music sooner. You sir resonate deep within me. I also understand Trent better now....
Loving the new stuff Mr Numan. See you in Bristol :-)
Incredible vision a view of what world could be or maybe great team he works with 👍
I am so happy that Gary Numan is still so uniquely Gary Numan. Fantastic stuff.

What a fantastic album,

Love it. Those early days high synths are a joy. 😎

Walking in the Shadows, One Perfect Lie, and Prayer for the Unborn....what a funny question to ask about a mostly anti-religious album!
