  • On September 30th 2023, I filmed multiple Seattle FD units responding to a reported structure fire in Crown Hill (north Seattle). The fire was quickly knocked down, and there were no injuries.
This was a tricky set-up because, as you can see from the video, there were a few different routes units could take to the fire. Station 18 units (L8, E18, B4) took a back road to the west of me, and other units (L5, E31, E35, R1) took a road to the north of me. Still, I got the Station 17 units (L9, E17, B6) as well as the support chiefs and Aid/Medic units.
This was the first video filmed on my new phone, which means it's my first 4K upload! I don't know that I see a huge quality difference so far, but the zoom is definitely better than on my old phone. I have some older footage I still have to upload, but most footage from here on out will be 4K. This does mean I'm having to learn a new video editing program, and I have to figure out a new end screen. Hopefully it'll be worth it - let me know what you think!
    Clip listing:
    0:00 - Engine 21 responding
    0:13 - Ladder 9 responding
    0:36 - Engine 17 responding
    0:52 - Battalion 6 responding
    1:09 - Safety 2 and Deputy 1 responding
    1:24 - Medic 44 and Staff 10 responding
    1:48 - Medic 1 responding (spare rig)
    2:02 - Aid 25 responding
    2:19 - Aid 14 responding (spare rig)
2:35 - Firebuff support unit responding

Awesome catches Lucas!! Sometimes we miss a few units when we think we're staging in a good spot, but then we don't realize what we'll will end catching, and it leads to a surprise!!

Thanks Chris! Yeah, I'm glad I went with the spot I did - I think it led to me getting more catches than I would have elsewhere. Fun to get them coming from two directions too.

At 1:32, amazing how unaware the guy appears as he slowly walks across the street. That's been such a productive corner for you. Well done.

Yeah, it's always hard to tell if some of these folks are impaired, or just oblivious. And I agree, this is definitely a good spot (and I get a little exercise jogging to the corner fairly often 😂)!

Nice catches Lucas! I only got quite some units on the cameras but i'm not quite sure why the traffic camera there was down...

Thank you! Yeah, the cam at 85th St had been down for a week or so, not sure why.

Also, did you know Engine 41 got a new rig yesterday? Just got them on the cams while they were responding to a Rescue Extrication before the fire.

Wow, the amount of horn from not just the big trucks but also the Aid units was insane! Awesome catches Lucas!
And congrats on the new phone! It's always jolly good fun (and a headache) learning new things. Not to rain on anyone's parade but I really think 4K is a little overhyped, especially on a phone. That is not to say the quality in this video wasn't stellar - it was very nicely put together for sure!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I'm not super impressed by the 4K yet, but I might also just be zooming in too much because this phone has way more zoom than my last one.

Thanks Pete! They must be rotating the regular medic rigs out for service, and taking turns with the old one. And yeah, always nice to see the Rehab guys going to offer support.

    Great video as always!
If you can't notice a difference in quality (I'm not sure myself, I'm watching on the same HD setting as before 😂) compare the file sizes.. HD and 4K makes a huge difference in file size for me. If there's no difference, try and look if there's a button/switch in the camera app to switch quality. My Pixel 7 Pro has that. Thought I was recording 4K all the time since December, turns out I had to switch from HD to 4K first.. didn't notice this till a few weeks ago 😂

    • @lucaslaughing
      @lucaslaughing  8 месяцев назад +1

Thank you! The file sizes are ridiculously huge, so it's definitely recording in 4K 😂 - maybe my expectations were just too high. I'll keep messing with the settings though, to see if anything can be optimized.

Impressive lineups of rigs and response routes. Just curious what camera and software you use. I’m looking forward to picking up an IPhone 15 mainly for the new camera.

Thanks Jeff! I have an iPhone 14 Pro - it's a big upgrade over my old phone, and the price went down a bit when the 15 came out.
For software, I just started using DaVanci Resolve, which I'm still getting used to. I might try to built-in phone software next time to see how it compares. I'd always used Windows Movie Maker in the past, but it can't export 4K video.

@@lucaslaughing Might just look at the 14 due to the price. I currently am using an ancient iPhone 8 Max.

Lucas, I wanna ask to be clear and wanna know is, Do most of all these SFD fire trucks have most of these the same sirens from Chicago that are not just Motorola sirens, but these sirens that these fire trucks have, but not ambulances have that type, but just the fire trucks that don't just have Motorola sirens, but these sirens that are commonly from Chicago, Illinois which are unlike normal fire truck Q sirens?

@@WATrafficCamResponses True on both counts! This is the first time I've gotten a more expensive phone, but I figure I use it every day, and I never dropped my other ones, so it's probably an ok investment.
