I can recommend Greenwich (pronounced 'GREN-itch') as a great place to visit. Lots to see for everyone: mum, dad, the kids and the grandparents. For example: Royal Observatory, Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, Queen's House, Greenwich Park, Greenwich Market, Old Royal Naval College, boat trips, cable car (over the Thames), the O2, Greenwich foot tunnel (under the Thames), the Docklands Light Railway, pubs, cafes, restaurants, tea shops and sausages.
It's so hilarious to see on Google Maps that some of Kiribati is at the same longitude line with Hawaii but there is a 24 hour difference between the two. I'm looking at this now and it's literally 10:48PM January 1st, 2021 in Napari Kiribati, but it's only 10:48PM December 31st, 2020 in Honolulu Hawaii!
This video is really helpful. I had some doubts related to the IDL but it all got cleared when you mentioned that this line is drawn exactly opposite to the prime meridian. 👍
When you cross the international dateline in an easterly direction you subtract a day, but when you cross a midnight zone in the same direction you add a day. You add a day if crossing in a westerly direction and and subtract a midnight zone. Sometimes these additions and subtractions will cancel each other out and two positions will be on the same day.
I read that from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM UTC it is 3 different days for the earth. For example at 11:00 PM on December 31st in baker island and Howland island in the central area of the pacific ocean it is january 1st for the majority of the world and 1:00 AM on january 2nd for Kiribati's line islands. Which is 26 hours later then the local time of baker island and Howland island.
Brilliant... Made easy... Is there a place where night leaves and day adverts simultaneously?? It's confusing.. Nevertheless it's amazing how u teach..
You could just Google it to find out the time there and the International date line used to be on Land when Alaska was apart of the Russian Empire, It only moved from when Alaska became apart of the United States
What if you lived west of Sydney (142°30’E) you could step one side and be in one time zone and then step the other side and be in a different time zone
All of Sydney has the same time zone every day of the year. If you were in New South Wales, the state Sydney is in at 11:59pm on New Years eve, celebrated the new year and then step into Queensland before the next hour you could celebrate a second new year in the same night.
On the opposite side of the world to the Prime Meridian is the Antipodal Meridian (180 degrees longitude) The International Date Line also runs down this line, except it bends around some countries to keep that country i the same time zone. Hawaii and Australia are on different sides of that date line and are therefore on different days. The sun rises in the east and Australia will see the sun before Hawaii. By the time the sun rises in Hawaii, it will be the next day in Australia.
Argentina (and it's capital Buenos Aires) is at UTC -3:00 all year by law even if the entire country is on the theorical UTC -4:00; except the province of San Luis which in the past had time zone changes in DST as most of the country is in standard time, the last time was during the 2000-2009 period were by law the applied or not. Just to clarify, I'm not from Argetina nor live as a resident there.
Am I the only one that finds it completely ridiculous that there is a 21 hour time difference from Australia to Hawaii? Maybe it's time we re-evaluate these things.
Hawaii is 3 hours behind of California, when California uses daylight time from March to November. From November to March California is 2 hours ahead of Hawaii.
Daylight savings goes for too long, it is still dark at 7 in the morning , on nsw/qld border. (And qld doesnt do dst, just to confuse things, new years is celebtated x2, at tweed heads/coolangatta).

I’m sure they were - how could people ever commute far distances to work if they had to switch time zones during the commute!?! They’d need 2 watches! So strange:) P.S. very handsome and pleasant accent, too!!! ;P
If there are 32 lines separating 33 segments, there has to be 33 hours in a day at the equator no matter what, or else time falls behind it is contradictory
I live in Buenos Aires, and I also saw that it was in UTC -4 which is why I missed the red moon on Apr. 14, 2014. They ridiculously have the country in UTC -3 even though it doesn´t belong there, so you might want to make a corrective comment in your video.
Question : 11 pm sunday on 165 E of the meridian what will be time on 165 W? Confused 165+165=330 divide by 15=22 timezones or 22 hr so it should be 1 am Saturday.but Answer is 11 pm on sat, can anyone explains me why?
Are the time zones meant to line up so that the areas within the time zones have the same approximate sunrise/sunset times? In other words, are they designed to line up with daylight?

Why can't the time zones be simple meaning straight up and down instead of zig zag the same thing with the international date line.....however the line on the equator and the lines of latitude and longitude are straight so why the time zones and the INDL zig zag
The problem is that countries don't keep time zones where they should. Examples include Australia, Russia, France, central Australia (UTC + 9:30, not UTC +9), China, and others.
@@Utred2012 you are correct But countries can decide which time zones they want to be Buenos Aires use 3 hours earlier than London time also called Greenwich mean Time
If you take something round such as an orange and mark off 24 equal notches around the circumference (at the widest part), vertically and follow with a marker those lines to the top and bottom of the orange, meaning equal to the Earth (as if it's round), the lines will begin to converge to the top and bottom much thinner and then totally converge at the top and the bottom. In other words if an orange was 24 inches round (representative of the globe) and every 1 inch at the equator signified 1 hour what time would it be at the North and South Poles or even when you get closer and closer from the circumference upward or downward. If you take 360 as in 360 degrees (as the circumference of the orange) and divided by 24 (as in time zones) you come up with 15 or 15 degrees. So if every inch at the circumference of that orange is 15 degrees and you follow the lines from the circumference to the top and bottom of the orange (Globe simulation) they will converge in to 0 degrees at the top and bottom. So in finishing, what time would it be then at the North and South Pole. More specifically, when the lines get thinner what time would it be when you get closer from the equator to the North and South Poles? Critical thinking leaving behind cognitive dissonance. In summary, time cannot exist on a globe in 1 hour increments. Only on a Flat Earth model!
It's not easy, but what I do know is that if you board a plane in Japan and land in Los Angeles, you cross the International date line. You land in Los Angeles before you take off if you take the time change into consideration. If a plane leaves Los Angeles for Japan on a Friday night, people in Japan may consider it Sunday morning when the plane lands, but it doesn't take that long for the plane to get there. I think it's similar to the fact that if it's 9 A.M. In Dallas, it's 7 A.M. In los Angeles. If you are at work at 9 A.M. In Dallas and you call a corporation in Los Angeles, chances are the people in Los Angeles won't be at work because it's earlier.
There's even a different time zone here on Earth for fast moving object like airplanes .00001 nanosecond slower as well as different time zone for satellites ;)
