Only thing I would have changed is to have put the Super Penetrator effect on the Imperial Hammers.......it makes each bullet damage every module on its trajectory as it passes through the ship, very effective with the Hammers as it fire’s 3 times with each shot
I did consider Super Penetrator and I did use it on my iEagle. What I'm not sure about is whether this just increases module damage at the expense of hull damage. If hull damage is unchanged and you tag modules too then that's great.
WiggyB no reduction in damage, the fire rate takes a slight drop by about 10% that’s all, and a rail gun is hardly a spam weapon as you wait till you get your shot so it makes no difference.....anyway it’s used massively in PVP to kill you opponent
Also don’t bother with G5 Sturdy, G1 Long range is far better, increase the range to 3.8k and you don’t lose any damage due to range, also it only costs 1 sulphur so you can spam rolls till you get the a thermal reduction secondary effect of between 40% to 50%......you can get this secondary in any long rage rail but it’s really quick to get it you do just grade 1, but grade 4 long range is easy to get the mats too if you wasn’t 5.5k range 👍....most people PVPing have all their rails with -50% thermal reduction this way
Love the way you make your video's found you earlier while waiting for some modules to transfer to my station and I am hooked! Great content and fantastic editing.
Love your videos, clear, concise and a great way to reinvigorate my enjoyment of the game. It can get a bit tedious, I now need to grind to unlock the rest of the engineers
Excellent video - I also noticed that you were in my "home" system for this video, glad to see I'm not the only one who knows about this gem of a system ;)
Really enjoy your vids, i wonder if in a future video you could expand on your throttle and movement usage during these fights, with your usual attention to detail and easily understood explanations it would prove massively helpful to those of us who can't quite get it right.
I love the DBS. It's my main PVE combat ship. It's so much fun to fight in! :-) I usually go with a mix of efficient beams & multi cannons with extra ammo (with corrosive on one) & thermal resistant bi weaves. It can take out anything. :-D
Fantastic vid Commander!!! I love these in depth vids you do, its very useful for builds. Thanks a lot and heres to you having a great 2018. o7 Commander!!!
Great build Cmdr, I have recently got into rail guns myself and was surprised by how quickly I started to get proficient. I have feedback cascade and super penetrator as the experimentals and was also surprised by how effective they were at taking down the shields and then shredding modules.
Nice. Something similar to this is actually my go-to PvP ship. I've been using two small pulses and two regular Med Rails. It is mostly a hull tank, but it has a shield. I only use it to chase gankers at CG's or powerplay-related PvP (in the past). The Rails seem to have an incredible intimidation factor against players. I have the hammers laying around though, so I'll switch them and give it a try.
Like the loadout and the vid. I have a DBS, think it could be good way to learn rails. Been practicing with plasmas and fixed beams/ax weapons but never used rails much. Love small ships too, so much fun to fly.
I have the same setup but I use frag cannons which has a higher dps overall engineered with extra ammo which gives you 6 shots per clip and 100% more ammo. Secondary effects include one corrosive and the rest incendiary. I have taken out an Anaconda in a wing with two AspX and his fighter all in less than a minute. Frag cannons have DPS in the hundreds. My favorite build is a Vulture with two large frag cannons. But with the DBS you have no heat with frags and can silent run for a very long time.
I'll have to get some of those Imperial hammers. I just got into railguns this week. That would be because I could finally aim the ship and keep it on target LOL. The armor-piercing explanation would explain why two small railguns were very effective for me
It's pretty good for that. It's vertical thrusters are a bit low on power, which makes getting behind ships more difficult than in a Vulture. But it is fun.
Thanks. It's easy to look good when you edit the video yourself! Officially, I've never crashed into an asteroid, or cooked my ship, or missed 10 times in a row.
For some reason I can see your comment on my piracy video notifications, but not in the actual video thread. Odd. Anyway, I've never worked out why you'd want a hatch breaker larger than a 1A. I've never been able to pirate more than one ship at a time, and firing a second limpet cancels the first one. FDEV logic clearly.
Nice video , i love following sector authorities in my A rated sidewinder when they start firing on a wanted npc i whip out two multicannons while , yelling , say hello to my two little friends , when the scan completes and i here the guns whirring i laugh while wearing pin striped suit with a red pirate paint job on my ship.
I am new to the game and your videos are a great help! New meaning, 2 weeks and I now have an exorbitant bank of 600k CR! This "lesson" has really helped my ship upgrade question: Cobra III OR DBS from my Viper. I will do missions while exploring, if the missions are on the way, but fighting and bounty hunting is really where it's at right?! With a cost of 500k CR for the DBS, plus a 500k CR loadout?... maybe I should bank up to 1.5mil CR whilst considering the choice; insurance has to be a monster, and my combat skills are keeping the insurance business in business. I appreciate the continuing education, and I liked the video. Subscribed, check.
My engineered vulture (bounty hunting), use one pulse and one railgun. On smaller ships I use the railgun to remove the shields, on bigger the pulse and destroy the shield generator, then drives..
Great video! Definitely got a follow from me, i do enjoy a funky build. Love the DBS, I have a stealth DBS build myself. Love the firepower yours has but you may still be there all day taking down my Corvette. 🤪 You can't hide from my huge beams as I have 1 small turret beam that acts as a target locator. It actually works well.
I was wondering: Have you ever tried piracy in an orca? It's a large ship but it's much more maneuverable than the python but only has 2x medium hard points and a single large as well as fewer internals. Still looks fun though.
Lookup Ghost Giraffe here on RUclips. They have a hilarious in-universe series and one of them spends 90% of his time in a combat orca. It's the best thing ever.
Loved it Wiggy , your videos have got me out of my cutter and corvette and back in small Ships . I don’t have the power play weapons , but I’m working on that...The only ship I can’t get to grips with in combat is the ieagle..whenever I pick a target any higher ranked than Dangerous I get wiped out in 2 hits...A special request then Cmdr what can you do with an imperial eagle ?
Look forward to seeing your builds Wiggy. ..your vulture build is great...I never even dreamt of putting an AFMU in it ...you have to take the hint quickly though when you hear the canopy crack 👍
Great vid, just subbed. If I wasn't 10k outside the bubble I'd be trying this out. I tend to go way too safe with builds so will start working my way through your content :) If I had just one (minor) bit of feedback I'd say that the audio is a bit low quality - your mic sounds very echo'y and a bit tinny (sorry!). If you're not streaming a duvet or old mattress can suck up those echoes cheaply.
I would love to see something similar on the Viper IV, it's my favourite ship. Or maybe on some of the less popular ships in game like the Asp Scout to see if that's any fun.
I need a Long Range Diamondback assault ship. ( I have a corvette but I really need to do it in a diamondback) any suggestions , should I use Scout or Exp ?
great video wiggy ! im from the beginning all in full fitted daimond back explorer (better than scout cause of round about 2000 mj hull, 1x 3 overcharged beamlaser, 2x greyhound missles ) and vulture only. i never owned bigger combat ships and im very happy about... i do not like to know how to be killed by a daimond back explorer in a conda or corvette ... lol
I use is very very sparingly in small nimble ships. My flight style is mostly about placement and I struggle to be as accurate with FA off. I use it far more in large ships like the Anaconda.
HOLY CRAP YOU RESPONDED TO ME. And yeah, I'd have to agree. I tried to make something like this with a DBX and it's more like a gigantic hull reinforcement module that has guns.
great video. I am definitely rethinking rail guns. With the new 3.0 update hitting tomorrow. I wonder what a chieftain would be like with full rails. Since the chieftain seems to have the diamondback chassis ( somewhat)
So just to clarify...rails are hitscan like lasers, or is the projectile speed just extremely fast? i.e. would it be possible to nail the first volley over 3k out, or are they like cannons where at 3k you're never gonna hit anything unless you get extremely lucky? I kinda always assumed they were just really fast but they appear to be hitscan here.
Yes - rails hit immediately where you're aiming with zero effective flight time. There is a significant delay between the trigger pull and the shot though, which makes them an acquired taste!
@@WiggyB Thanks. I tried this loadout and it was fun but I decided not to keep it because even with A-rated thrusters and other things engineered for lightweight I was consistently turning past the target while waiting for the rails to charge. Having already engineered them, I moved the class 2 rails over to my Krait MkII (using 3 incendiary MCs on the top) and I couldn't be happier. The Krait, at least for me, strikes a better balance of turning very responsively but also not overshooting the target that makes using Rails much easier. I might replace them with packhounds whenever I get packhounds, but for now, these things are amazing! So I say thanks because I thought they were fixed weapons AND had travel time (like plasma) and I am just not that good, period. Knowing they are near-hitscan made all the difference. So thanks!
Have you ever tried high capacity modded hammers? Holding the trigger, although you have to go through the slightly konger first charging delay than a standard medium rail, subsequent bursts have no charge up. I used EDSY to get the maths, they pretty much have better(!) sustained dps of a huge multi, around about the distro draw of a huge beam and a little worse heat than that huge beam, but that's before the cooling effect of plasma slug or cascade. Firing 2 three round bursts in succession, then these 6 shot bursts only broken up by brief reload periods. I have beem trying to cram something this silly on a much smaller ship, given its essentially a Huge gun in a Medium hardpoint, but trying to supply it with a distro that works has been difficult to plan. The 5A with Charge Enhanced and Super Conduits in a Vulture or even Orca seem to be relatively viable, or weps focussed. I had considered a DBS with 2 and 2 small vent beams, or with one and a corrosive multicannon to make the beams deadly. A courier with kne but 2 efficient meadium vent beams is also on the agenda. Just imagine a courier with a huge oc incendiary, power hungry multicannon. I will let you know how it gors
nice flying. since you are so good at flying - why not try a small ship with 3-4 efficent inertial impact burst lasers. all they need is keeping yourself within 500m to the target when you fire them.
BTW Sturdy is NOT the blueprint to put on Rails - by far the most effective is long range. Any long range roll, including G1 (using just sulfur) can give a 50% thermal reduction which is key to rails. It takes about 30-50 rolls to get which is why G1 is sufficient, that give you up to 4k range with G5 giving you 6k (most commanders can't land a shot at that range anyway). As Tod the Blaster does these and is the first engineer don't even try rails, especially 4, without that mod - oh and hammers generate FAR more heat than standards with very little benefit which is why they are almost never used by the PvP community. Not sure why you'd take a cold ship and put the hottest weapons on it but okay - oh and silent running doesn't work against NPCs anyway
Hi Ross. Thanks for the tip on the rails. I'm tempted to do an update on this video or the iEagle video to explore the benefit of this mod. What's great is that even though I've been playing this game since release there's still stuff to learn! As for the hammers, this build wasn't really about practicality. It's more about a challenge, and hammers are about the most difficult weapon to use. You're absolutely right that 4 standard rails may well be significantly better in reality, even though DPS is lower on paper. Why put hot weapons on the coldest running ship? Excellent thermal performance means it's able to take them! As for silent running - this does work against NPC for seeker missiles as far as I can tell. It obviously doesn't work well for other weapons.
Totally get and appreciate going off-meta for fun - I do that all the time. Just want to make sure people watching this understand a few things. While Sturdy is good for it's thermal reduction it makes them SO much heavier for no real reason - and long range gives you a nice boost and no damage fall-off. As for silent running against NPCs unless something has changed very recently it is still ineffective against them - they can still lock you at any range with players being able to lock under 1.5k so it's just not all that effective in 1v1 PvP - it is however decent against missiles as you say. I actually usually fly an iEagle or Sidewinder, both builds are in the (huge) reference section on my Twitch stream if you're interested - twitch.tv/exigeous
Not sure if they do or not. I just wanted to make certain that I hit with one when my target fires a cell bank. The DPS loss isn't too bad versus making sure they don't recharge.
Shane J One rail with FC reduces X amount of mega juels that is restored by SCB. But not whole charge. Difference raises with size of SCB. So to compensite for that using two rails or shooting several times is required to negate as much of SCB effect as possible. And on top of that for ex. I'm using simultaneously 2x 7 class SCB on my Corvette so with one rail I won't even notice that you have hit me with FC ;)
Many thanks for the feedback. The mic's actually quite a good one and has all the toys. I'm struggling to work out where to place it though. My recording room has a bit of an echo which isn't helping. Must try harder! o7
The problem I have with these combat videos, not just this 1, is your weapons are not standered. I seriously would love to see a training video made by you RUclips creators using just normal, everybody can purchase these items from Jameson Memorial ship build. Not every player has successfully engineered their ships so a normal combat load out is truly needed but I cannot find a normal combat ship load out. Positive note, I did learn a thing or two from this video as I'm still learning how to fly.
Ah! Can't wait to have a go with this when I get back from Enigma expedition - I built your rail/plasma eagle a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it! By the way, your madness has spawned a new ship I created especially for drunken pvp - I followed your formula for the Eagle, but aiming for really low rebuy, to pack a bit of a punch and deliver useful special abilities for wing shenanigans - behold, The Ciderwinder!: eddp.co/u/qmcnXfNJ It's not good for much compared to almost any other ship, but it's a giggle to fly and I have enjoyed sneaking in on a wing target when it scb's and hitting it with the feedback cascade, and going for modules with the super penetrator after my buddies have done the heavy lifting with the shield.
Looks good. I've got 4 or 5 sideys myself that I use for various tasks. Great little ships and fun to fly. Been trying to take out elite Condas with my super sidey. Not managed it yet, but the challenge is the reward. Have fun.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, worn out the t-shirt and bought another one. No challenge anymore. Small ships and interesting builds bring back the excitement of combat.
a one tactic wonder to be sure. let anyone with half a brain deviate you from your tight loop and makes you chase them while they face you flying backwards. and you'll be chewed up. let a large ship ram you and you'll rethink this build. i've had these lil dbx's attack my corvette before, stick to npc's
Hulltanking isn't viable. The moment your hull start taking damage, so does all your modules, and with the OP AI that can turn their ships however they want, it doesn't take long until you're stuck in jousting and lose your canopy.. I honestly think the AI needs an overhaul and nerf in ED, it's FAR to agile with all ships.. I've seen the AI outmanouever a FAS in an Anaconda.
I fly a large number of hull tanks all the time in the Haz RES. Ammo is the only limiting factor on my flight time. I've got a Sidey, Adder, iEagle, 2 Vultures and 2 FAS and I use them all. The trick is positioning your ship out of the enemy fire arc and learning to use the vertical thrusters and throttle. Lateral too if you've got a hotas or mouse and keyboard. Once you can reliably stay behind your target, shields aren't required! Module damage is pretty easy to deal with if you manage your power priorities, fit module reinforcements and/or an AFMU. An AFMU can also repair a cracked canopy (not a blown one though). Have fun commander.
I like how this is all about having fun rather than building some sort of meta PVP monster.
That's why you build a meta PvP meme and maximize on sillyness.
I’ve subscribed halfway through bc you’re more informative than most
Wow! An Elite: Dangerous combat video that's informative and bereft of ego! Well done Sir o7
Great video, well edited with a clear explanation including examples in combat. All this without shit music! Well done CMDR.
Only thing I would have changed is to have put the Super Penetrator effect on the Imperial Hammers.......it makes each bullet damage every module on its trajectory as it passes through the ship, very effective with the Hammers as it fire’s 3 times with each shot

Love the way you make your video's found you earlier while waiting for some modules to transfer to my station and I am hooked! Great content and fantastic editing.
Thanks!
Love your videos, clear, concise and a great way to reinvigorate my enjoyment of the game. It can get a bit tedious, I now need to grind to unlock the rest of the engineers
great video! love seeing these unique builds!
Great video man! been messing with a DBS build myself recently with two hammers and it's been a lot of fun.
Watched one of your videos before, just found this series and you've earned a sub. Great video pal
Excellent video - I also noticed that you were in my "home" system for this video, glad to see I'm not the only one who knows about this gem of a system ;)
Home of the Pixel Bandits too!
WiggyB Very true - I've been allied with them in-system for a while, I should enroll. :3
Really enjoy your vids, i wonder if in a future video you could expand on your throttle and movement usage during these fights, with your usual attention to detail and easily understood explanations it would prove massively helpful to those of us who can't quite get it right.
Your videos are excellent, thank you.
I love the DBS. It's my main PVE combat ship. It's so much fun to fight in! :-) I usually go with a mix of efficient beams & multi cannons with extra ammo (with corrosive on one) & thermal resistant bi weaves. It can take out anything. :-D
I enjoy your videos sir. Very well organized and thoughtfully explained. Keep it up.
Yep, just earned yourself a sub CMDR. I too love flying small ships. The Courier and Vulture are my favs. :) Great video!
Pookii Power I own a courier with 610 shield unmodded and it is 🤑😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
May Bob smile on your adventures. Maybe I'll see you in Neto sometime.
Fantastic vid Commander!!! I love these in depth vids you do, its very useful for builds. Thanks a lot and heres to you having a great 2018.
o7 Commander!!!
I really enjoyed that. Thank you.

o7 inspirational stuff commander. I skipped the DBS to go straight to DBX from a cobra. This might make me go back.
James Dobbs The Scout is like the DBX in looks only. It's a pure fighter
I went directly from the Cobra to the AspX
Nice. Something similar to this is actually my go-to PvP ship. I've been using two small pulses and two regular Med Rails. It is mostly a hull tank, but it has a shield. Double shots definitely are fun. This build was more about challenge than DPS. I'll probably do a vid on my double shot frag ram Ferdy at some point.
I'll have to get some of those Imperial hammers. I just got into railguns this week. That would be because I could finally aim the ship and keep it on target LOL. The armor-piercing explanation would explain why two small railguns were very effective for me
must fun i ever had, HazRez in a DBS
Seems like a good ship to train your evading and aiming skills.
It's pretty good for that. It's vertical thrusters are a bit low on power, which makes getting behind ships more difficult than in a Vulture. But it is fun.
What a great build...magnificent 👍
I still fly this little monster from time to time. Great fun, particularly in a wing.
Nice video, but I'm never, *ever* entering combat without a shield, and nothing is gonna change my mind.
No. No way. Never. I'm not doing it.
That was awesome, you make great videos.
Thanks. It's easy to look good when you edit the video yourself! Officially, I've never crashed into an asteroid, or cooked my ship, or missed 10 times in a row.

My engineered vulture (bounty hunting), use one pulse and one railgun. On smaller ships I use the railgun to remove the shields, on bigger the pulse and destroy the shield generator, then drives..
That's a cheeky little build if ever I saw one. ;-)
I still love to fly this stupid little ship. So much more fun than a Corvette IMHO.

I need a Long Range Diamondback assault ship. ( I have a corvette but I really need to do it in a diamondback) any suggestions , should I use Scout or Exp ?
I had an idea for a missile boat using the DBS. However seeing this I might go rails instead.
Awesome to see one the first ships I really wanted to fly just becuase of it's look doing some decent work o7
I'd be curious to know if you can come up with a build that makes the Asp Scout worth buying?
Interesting, how do you fare vs SLFs?
Awesome video and extremely informative o7

What is your favourite Ship for Combat or Trading?

Very nice and well explained video! Just one doubt, do you fly with FA on all the time? Didn't notice any switch. Congrats!
I use is very very sparingly in small nimble ships. My flight style is mostly about placement and I struggle to be as accurate with FA off. I use it far more in large ships like the Anaconda.
Thanks for the info, bud! Grinding the materials for upgrades and the Hammer right now!
I've considered making a hull tank if only so I could use it to play bumper cars with and RAM opponents.
How did you get the layout in out fitting for more detail?
Could you make a build like this for the DBX? The Mantis 2.0?
I did build a hull tank DBX once. Turned like a super-tanker. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're good at FA off.
HOLY CRAP YOU RESPONDED TO ME. And yeah, I'd have to agree. I tried to make something like this with a DBX and it's more like a gigantic hull reinforcement module that has guns.

I haven't tried this. Sounds like fun. I take it the ammo must vanish quite quickly! I'd love to see a video when you've got it sorted.
Is it possible to get a DBS to run so cold that using railguns while silent running becomes possible?
Great video. Thanks. I'm subscribed. =)
nice flying. since you are so good at flying - why not try a small ship with 3-4 efficent inertial impact burst lasers. all they need is keeping yourself within 500m to the target when you fire them.
Hey bro! Would this kind of fit/purpose work with the DBX too?
I did build a hull tank DBX once. Turned like a super-tanker. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're good at FA off.
Errr... nope. I will keep the DBS, for now. :-) Thanks!
Can't we all just get along?
This looked like good fun and I was wondering if u wanted to go agenst a real elite pilot in a corvette
PBSF 07
Can you do an Imperial Courier build?
Droogie128 I have one if you want to know it there is a version with scb and without
My dbx only has 3 hardpoints now what?
WOW
Pun intended.
Cool. How about PvP?
have a good build DBS for ho dont have horizons?
Im trying to make money !!! =/
Awsm! :D
" Corvette killer" .. in PVE !
I didn't think feedback cascade stacked. I was always told 1 is all you need.
Cheers for that!
after every shot .....warning!! taking heat damage . ^^
You do start to become immune to it! If you don't exceed 130 it really doesn't do much.
you know, theres an option to reduce camera shake lol
I didn't actually know that! Thanks.
Comment for algorithm + 👍 'd
liked it very much - thank you! Please get a new mic though! ;)
By the way, your madness has spawned a new ship I created especially for drunken pvp - I followed your formula for the Eagle, but aiming for really low rebuy, to pack a bit of a punch and deliver useful special abilities for wing shenanigans - behold, The Ciderwinder!: eddp.co/u/qmcnXfNJ
It's not good for much compared to almost any other ship, but it's a giggle to fly and I have enjoyed sneaking in on a wing target when it scb's and hitting it with the feedback cascade, and going for modules with the super penetrator after my buddies have done the heavy lifting with the shield.
Looks good. I've got 4 or 5 sideys myself that I use for various tasks. Great little ships and fun to fly. Been trying to take out elite Condas with my super sidey. Not managed it yet, but the challenge is the reward. Have fun.
Well, if you're stuck for video ideas one day, I'd watch one on the super sidey!
PvE Piracy is no profit And so easy that You dont need to make special builds

Спасибо за информацию. 07
Добро пожаловать в командующий.
Just get your vette and destroy everything that flies..
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, worn out the t-shirt and bought another one. No challenge anymore. Small ships and interesting builds bring back the excitement of combat.
before i even watch this I want to say i just sold my DBS like 2days ago are you kidding me
😐
wow good video thanks :)
I hated it because I'm a douchebag.
a one tactic wonder to be sure. let anyone with half a brain deviate you from your tight loop and makes you chase them while they face you flying backwards. and you'll be chewed up. let a large ship ram you and you'll rethink this build. i've had these lil dbx's attack my corvette before, stick to npc's
I've had the same problem as Dreez. Even using thrusters it seems impossible to stay out of the firing arc of most large ai ships.
Silent runing with bot ;) ? Realy :) ? no ;)
Really yes. Until it has a lock on you, silent running is effective. Once it has a lock on you it isn't. See my no hit challenge video.
As for missiles, it does seem to stop those firing too. Difficult to tell though, as I rarely try and park in front of a ship with missiles!
Boff pve so 👎👎
