    Great video George....being a Bmw owner and maintainer I have watched quite a few of your videos...nine clear interesting content. A a day job on the other hand I happen to look at a lot of plans as I work in an office at a builders merchant. I cannot help but notice that your plans show standard trusses but I would think that you will definitely need raised collar trusses above your 2 post lift...otherwise your vehicle on the lift will hit the cross brace timbers. Unless you have accounted for this and I didn't see a raised collar section. I wouldn't want you to have the kit arrive and find this out the hard way mate...keep up the good work. Top man...😊

      Yes there is a raised section where the lift will sit 👍🏻

    I’d consider building it yourself as you can spec the insulation, strongly suggest you insulate the slab and foundation if insulating under the whole thing becomes a thermal mass so you can heat slab if you want. Probs wouldn’t want to insulate the top as needs to be a c35 for the loads etc. You won’t regret insulating but if you don’t you’ll always be cold in the winter.

      Trust me I’ve been working outside in minus conditions on cars so anything warmer than that inside of a garage will be fine😅

    With that height…you are going to have to dig down, and this video is about how water logged your garden is! I’ve just completed a below grade slab foundation for a client and we have insulated it under, put full perimeter footing drain, and close to ground soak away going to a massive soak way pit. It’s a lot of work, but if doing a pit inside you’d need to do the similar. The XPS insulation will make it nice to work in, just sort the waterproofing!

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  Месяц назад

      Not doing a pit and I don’t think I’ll be insulating the floor as it’s just too much expense

    If you have that sized concrete slab you will need to allow for some movement of the slab as the concrete will expand in the summer and shrink in the winter

    Told ya you’d get planning lol great work mate. You can create a sunken bit of concrete in the floor under your four post lift - that way the car doesn’t need as much roof height, as you can stand in the recessed bit and gain a 300mm additional space

  • @b4tm4nrubin33
    @b4tm4nrubin33 Месяц назад +2

    Dude, given your abilities, why pay all that to a third party for the garage? Bit of basic CAD and some woodworking tools and I reckon you could save £100s! Plenty of decent wood suppliers around without having to pay "DIY Store" prices; just a thought. I accept if you'd prefer to put the onus on someone else and have a guarantee on the work, but you could make it to your exact liking and specification if you do it yourself. Maybe "borrow and improve" on an existing design? Hope it all works out, mate. Simon.

    Looking good, and I would just put white gravel over the land drains and leave the pattern in view, Nightmare to mow but I recon you will see the pattern in the grass if you just turf over them. BUT things to check with the 2 poster, check the spec of the floor with the ramp supplier. You may find you can lay a thinner floor (cheeper) and put a deeper area under the ramp only. also think now for when you add the second ramp. Your lift is wider than the car so you need to be able to get between it and the wall. Also you need a lift that will take the car forward or backwards some lifts only take a car one way round trust me you will want to reverse on one day. I know you have done all of the above George Great videos

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  Месяц назад

      Yeah the 8 inch thick concrete is specified by the lift manufacturer.. I’d rather just have the whole slab the same as I’m not exactly sure where the lift is going

  • @donnied8127
    @donnied8127 22 дня назад +1

    Maybe you should put solar panels instead roof tiles, plenty of such solutions around these days....just an idea

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  22 дня назад +1

      Can’t stand the look of solar panels personally - they also don’t last forever

    • @donnied8127
      @donnied8127 22 дня назад

      @@GeorgeAusters fully with you on looks, however, the new integrated ones as a roof won't look much out of place, there are even ones that look like roof tiles, they will last 25 years+ and still produce 80% of the original capacity after that. Cost wise are not more than normal roof. Do a bit of research on that, as it could be a worth while while you have a chance.

    • @donnied8127
      @donnied8127 22 дня назад

      Also, if you are planning to install two post lift, you need to have adequate foundation of concrete, at least a foot deep I would say, if not more, depending on the lift you are planning to install

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  22 дня назад +1

      The lift I’m wanting to install stipulates a minimum of 200mm thickness - hence the 200mm slab I’m going with.
      With regards to the roof covering - I’m maybe thinking of using a reclaimed clay tile as I don’t want it to look ultra modern and out of place

    • @donnied8127
      @donnied8127 22 дня назад

      @@GeorgeAusters Even reclaimed "period" tiles can cost arm and a leg these days. Been there, done that, hence saying, put solar tiles, won't look much out of place, more durable plus get some government handouts alongside ;)
