UPS driver killed in Irvine was shot 14 times by childhood friend, authorities say

- New details released Tuesday on the deadly ambush attack of a UPS driver in Irvine, California revealed he was allegedly stalked and killed by a childhood friend.
The shooting happened on May 16 as the victim, Expedito Cuesta De Leon, 50, from Aliso Viejo, had been sitting in his delivery van after dropping off a package at around 3 p.m.
Suddenly, a masked gunman pulled up to De Leon’s van and shot him 14 times in a matter of 19 seconds, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
The suspect, Rhean Jalipa Fontanoza, 46, sped away from the area. He was located about an hour later and was eventually arrested after a standoff with a SWAT team. New details revealed the two men, who were both UPS employees, knew each other and were childhood friends.

I didn't need too they faded for me. But there is nothing wrong with me. They only want you for what you got. Some people shouldn't have friends, since they can be taken advantage of by them easier, than others. A meaningful friendship can turn south very quickly. I would definitely say it is worse amongst men, than two women. Since Women/ Girls are happy go lucky almost always. Reportedly cousins who took driver training together but had a falling out decades ago. Fontanoza has a criminal history of 7 charges including drugs and DUI over a 22-year period up to 2021, but Expedito DeLeon had no criminal or traffic record.. Fontanoza was off work with a disability (reportedly mental health) the past 18 months and was scheduled to re5urn to work in June, 2024. Fonranoza was hospitalized for several days after the murder "for reasons unrelated to the incident" which were reportedly mental health issues.

This had to be about his betrayal of his wife or daughter/son or a lot of money. Premeditated shot him 14 times very personal. Only things I can think of to make a man hunt down and kill his childhood friend on his job. Not sure but just strong possibility on this one. Following this case to see what the killer tell the police why he did this.
Several people posted they are cousins who had a falling out decades ago and bad blood since. Fontanoza has a felony criminal record including drugs and DUI and other charges over a 22-year oeriod. DeLaon has no criminal or traffic records. Fontanoza was on work disability according to the District Attorney - 18 months, someone said - and was scheduledto back to work next month (June) according to the D.A.. He was hospitalized for several days after the murder "for reasons unrelated to the murder" which are said to be mental health reasons.

So, the deceased ex-wife gives a statement... but his current wife is remaining silent?? It sounds fishy to me. Sounds like the deceased had an affair with the shooter's wife or girlfriend... and that's why he was shot multiple times. The wife of the deceased is probably both distraught and embarrassed that her husband was cheating on her. This is just my opinion... because so much of the story is missing and only being disseminated by drips at a time.

This is the truth. When I wad in my 20's and married. I took my 2 yr old daughter to the community pool. Ad I was swimming with her in the shallow end a young man 21 grabbed me by the foot and pulled me to hom. I told him I was married and he responded, "If you want I will stay with you a very long time."

Even though the other guy worked there and knew how to look him up, I think they will sue UPS because of the open access and ease of that info to other employees..Though UPS couldn’t have predicted such an evil act, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility: employees disputes with each other..

@@thewholetruth7406 We usually don’t have these types of issues. Somethings will probably change but we have access to other routes because if we need to link up with a driver for load transfer then we need to be able to see where they are located.

i had a falling out with a friend from when i was 9 or 10 years old and i had dreams he is trying to hurt me or look for me and im trying to avoid it. i feel like there is a deep tension between us and mostly out of jealousy because although we both were rebellious kids at a young age i turned my life around when Jesus saved me from my own sins and from the street life.
i feel he has a resentment for me and i feel how this could happen, whether or not there is a woman or large amount of money involved.....i feel like some people get so emotionally attached to ideas in their head.
