I get a lot of questions about my gear. You can read about it on the website here: www.shutupandp...
Thanks for watching. cheers
When Greg was interviewed about this song, he said this one song put his kids through college and paid for his house. Not too shabby...
Man if only I could get into the entertainment industry 😢
Anyone else just listen to him play it over and over because of how amazing it sounds
I would buy this song if he put it on Itunes
Yeah
I hope he will put the whole song online to enjoy eventually 😢
Rest in Power, Greg Kihn. Absolute legend.
Just heard Greg Kihn passed away today and wanted to learn this song, such a cool riff and great song to jam around, love your tone.... RIP GK
By the way, you are the supreme guitar instructor of RUclips! I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and I am still learning stuff from you. Thanks for the effort you put into these videos. Excellent playing.
He is phenomenal. And his teaching skills are such that everyone from beginner to professional can learn a lot from him. Just amazing.
Why is it I can pickup most of the stuff you play, but your vibrato just kicks my ass.....You should do a lesson or 10 on how to master that. Most awesome I've ever heard. Your playing can be described as grace on a fretboard. Thanks for taking the time for us that can't stand in your shadow.
Nolan varner Completely agree......he does something a little unusual with his index finger when using vibrato with his third finger. Maybe this has something to do with it.
I would say watch video of Leslie West, Paul Kossoff & Eric Clapton for starters. Some of the best vibratos ever.
That les Paul plays like absolute butter.
Like it's not even real.
I had one.
He's also using 9's
Yea thats some of the Best , most Soulful Vib n Bends ever . Really tasteful n well Done
😎👍
I agree. This guy is amazingly smooth. I literally would give my left Nutt to play like that.
Classic track.....you couldnt escape this one on the car radio for an entire decade...cool
And with a melody like that the variable possibilities are almost endless.
Thank you ,as always
Yer the man
This guy is an incredible guitar player 👍
This guy is AWESOME!!!!!!
I can write all day long.
But I have had no patience to learn covers....
Then I see this guy just making it so self explanatory that I had to post a positive comment.
Excellent teacher!!!!
just such a great melodic riff. the greatest song that a lot of ppl never even heard of or forgot.
Great teachers make things easier and that’s what you have made right there. Thanks 😘
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest Rock and Roll songs ever. There will never be another Greg Kihn, may he rest in peace.
Great job, love your rendition of this classic song of 1981
Think you're my favorite guy on here. You are a great player and teacher and seem like a really level and cool guy. Thank you
Greg Kihn also mixed in comedy. He had a bit from a live show that was often played on KSJO/KOME (can't remember which) on how British rock singers would speak in these heavy working class accents and then sing in straight-up American accents that was much funnier than my description here.
I think this was the best intro i‘ve ever seen
RIP Greg Kihn! Thanks for years of music and being our DJ in Silicon Valley for 15 years. Such a cool tune from my high school years!
Great lesson on a great classic!! Thank you!!
Nobody has a better 80's guitar' How to play' line up than you. Great stuff
Great song and tutorial. Spent a while playing around with it. I really like that you show the chords that make up the smaller triads etc. Helps to understand better than just where to put the fingers. Thanks for sharing! 🤘🎸
Each and every time I hear this song come on the classic rock station my foot starts tapping and I usually turn the volume up ahah! Great song and a great lesson man, your playing is just superb to say the very least. Thanks so much for sharing all of this really 🤙

Thanks, Andy.. A great song and another superb lesson from Andy..
A blast from the past and one of my all time favourite songs. Great choice headless man.
Sad I hadn't subscribed up until now. I've watched so many of his videos and I am impressed every time. I swear he's the cleanest player in all of the lesson video series. Always with that beautiful wine colored Les Paul... though I'm a Strat guy. Now a subscriber!
Love your version! Thank you for sharing
In The Naked Eye, is my personal favorite GKB tune. Thanks for the 2nd and 3rd guitars. Perfect.
Yet another insta-Like from me. Your lessons are so good, I just click the thumb before I hit Play anymore. You're my go-to guy when I demand quality ear, hands, and tutelage.
I've been wanting to learn this for a million years
You are absolutely correct, who does the Thin Lizzy harmonies? No one, and that is sad since it sounds epic live
Thank You for posting this! One of my favs as well from back then!
I always thought this song would be so much cooler with a hot guitar solo at the end. I agree this song would have been bigger played like this! Thanks for posting!
Another great guitar video you have posted.
As a bassist/vocalist who loves doing this song I want to thank you. So many guitarists I work with just don't get that signature riff right. With this video I can steer them to the correct way to play it! Thanks!!!!!!!
Andy, I really like what you've done with this song! I think we're around the same age and I've never attempted to play a lead like this. It'll be a challenge but I'm looking forward to it. I've already learned many songs here, from you. I'm hoping to lay down some of the tracks and play along. Thanks again! Doug in Ohio USA
Brother, Its great when you 'fill in the empty spaces" It lets us hear "you" and you my friend are bad-ass. Your lessons have a comfortable pace that can be reasonably absorbed by a human. lol Lastly. That Deluxe. Sounds incredible!
Just awesome, detailed, perfect, with feeling, guitar work - all the parts !!!!!! Thank you, mi amigo' for this !!! Best Blessings to you and your familia' !!!
I was wondering where you’ve been glad you’re back that is awesome
Nice, it's like Chris Rea , Mark Knopfler & Brian May joined you! I always sensed chorus in the intro. There is a great 10 1/2 minute live version of Roadrunner / Jumping Jack Flash on YT that has some great guitar work for any Kihn fans.
What an Awesome video. Lead fills just FANTASTIC*****
Greg used to be a DJ at 98.5 KFOX here in San Jose for years after his popularity peaked.
Another great lesson, and - you read my mind by adding this one. Thx!
I always loved this song because the intro lick reminds me/sounds a little like Television’s “Elevation” off their album Marquee Moon. Both songs are awesome, “Elevation” has a great solo too.
always great stuff from this guy
fantastic soloing tone for pentatonic and vibrato songs.
Oh, so many thanks for this one! I always loved this song.
I loved this era of music... it's when I grew up, so I guess that's natural... late 70's early 80's rock was great despite the crap critics talked about it.
You nailed it, chops and tone!
Thanks. I been thinking about working this one up.
My guitar is almost like yours.
Good job.
Love it! Your lead tone to me sounds sounds like a mix of Santana and Joe Satriani. Great dynamics when you play. I really enjoy learning from you. You're one of the best instructors on RUclips. Keep up the great work. What you said about being in the car hearing an old familiar song happens to me all the time. Sometimes I'll even "soundhound" it if I don't remember the name...haha, hey I'm in my 50s...this can be expected ;)
Great tone nice style as well I got those old style knobs on my epiphone standard.
Had to check the original when I stumbled upon this. I find your instrumental version better. Amazing groove!
Your Guitar's sound is amazing
Great job on this one sir thank you much est😅
Top notch, as usual. Thanks! And I already know this song, but I still watch to see how close I got :-)
Great playing Andy.
Thank you so much. What a great song.
LOL at Brian May checkin' out the 3 part harmony.
Good song remember it well.
Jim Lyon from two tickets to paradise fame did this guitar solo work too, I believe
Nicely done.
Very good Sir, thank you...
i want you to want me (live) by cheap trick! it’s an excellent song and i can’t find any good videos that break it down. so if you could, that would be great. you’re awesome by the way!
Fantastic! Nicely done.
Just fricken awesome!!!
Can you please do a tutorial on how you get that crazy vibrato
"I really don't use pedals.." proceeds to list 6-7 pedals being used. :)
Awesome lesson though, as always.
I thought that was funny too.. I guess he only buys amps with all the effects (pedals) built in. Same thing as using pedals IMO (shrug)… still a great lesson
no no Its a TC Electronics NOVA multi effects pedal. Like a Line 6 or Boss.
First rate as always. How about 'Ah Leah' by Donnie Iris?
Hell yea!! I'll 2nd that!!
Andy, you have taken my guitaring to the next level. Thank you for your fantastic tutorials. Any chance of "make me a pallet on your floor" by mjh? I have trawlled the internet and there is nothing close to how well you could teach it
NIce at :53, I'm sure Brian may like what you did.
There is a great interview with him on podcast No guitar is safe.
What are you using to record the backing track? Sounds phenomenal! Great playing and tutorial. Best on YT!
Awesome job as usual! This is a fun song to play. I noticed you left out the end part where the guitar plays the chorus chords in various inversions on the top 3 strings by arpeggiating them. Can you show us that part? Thanks!
Nice improv 🪶
I watched an interview with Greg where he was playing this tune on an acoustic. He said this song paid for his house and put his kids through college. That's not happening for musicians anymore, where one song can completely change a songwriters life. The record companies really screw musicians over by demanding their publishing for too many years. Unless a band has a major hit album or has enough heat to support a major tour - they all end up broke. It's better these days for bands to self-publish online, and build a following. It might take them longer to be financially successful, but they will have a loyal fan base that will sustain them over a 15-20 career. Plus, most record companies won't support this kind of music anymore, its become about the next "pop" sensation, and not about songwriting and musicianship. The only people who still care about great songwriting are old geezers like me who came of age in the 70's and 80's when it seemed like there was a great song being played every other week from all different kinds of genres.
Instead of learning guitar, kids should study law books and take the musicians money
I sincerely hope you hear from the original artists stating "Wow, I wish I would have done it that good...."
Another great lesson. thanks for that, love this song... any chance of ever doing " I just died in your arms. " by Cutting Crew ?
If you do "Remember" from Next of Kihn you'll win the internet forever.
Please do the solo to beast of burden! I can't find good tabs or lessons anywhere
Your guitar sounds awesome what pickups you have in it, is it a real Les paul 59 or a Chibson that's had a lot of work, reason I ask it looks like it plays like butter smooth like my real paul but I got a chibson that's a real pile that needs a lot of work to play decent just wondering if it's worth it, your paul is Beautiful 😍
There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. Cheers
wow!!
Your a god.
Superb work as always. Surprised Ive never heard of this song or band....maybe wasnt released here in UK. Wondering what guage you have on the LP pls? I use 10's but there is no way I can push and pitch them as you do.
Great

I would love to learn Twice As Hard by the Black Crowes :)
Just to let you know, I'm working on your stones Brown sugar on yt, but the title is in I just bought a $100 dollar guitar...And it's FANTASTIC! Darre .. Guitar, you might want to check your views, seems he is getting them rather than you?
I wonder what Satrani did to this solo when he was their touring guiatrist with them in the 80s
Johnny Carson voice , I did not know that ... wow
Hey man, what happened to your Hotel California solo video???? I was half-way through it and it disappeared. :)
