- +++ The WDR BIG BAND album "Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Ronnie Cuber - Centerstage" is nominated for the Grammy 2023 in the category "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album".+++
The WDR BIG BAND performs together with Steve Gadd (drums), Eddie Gomez (bass) and Ronnie Cuber (baritone saxophone) the title "Che Ore So" by Pino Daniele in an arrangement by Michael Abene. Another solo will be played by Ludwig Nuss on trombone. Bobby Sparks will play the Fender Rhodes. The WDR BIG BAND is conducted by Michael Abene, who was the band's principal conductor for over 10 years. Produced as part of the CD production "Centerstage" at WDR Studio 4 (January 2022).

I loved this song.. I think it was the 1985..
I love the WDR big band but, in this case, love can't be enough: the choice to play a Pino Daniele's tune is amazing. I hope that many people out of Italy border could discover the greatest albums of Pino, especially from 1977 to 1987. Thanks also to Gadd, Gomez and Cuber, three giants of jazz history. (if someone wants to know the title meaning: CHE ORE SO' means what time is it in neapolitan dialect).

I (Jonathan Sorrell) was so fortunate to have recorded with both Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez, together with guitarist Hugh McCracken and Toots Thielmans, on a Philippe Sarde film score in Paris, along with the Orchestra de Paris. I was playing keyboards and Synclavier. I even had the honour of giving Steve Gadd a lift to the studios in the morning from his hotel. Such an unassuming guy, really pleasant, and the ultimate professional. The film music was great, but the best moments were in the break when Toots picked up a guitar and jammed with Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez - wish I'd recorded it !! Thanks all you guys for all the pleasure you give us 🙏🙏🙏
The refrain It is clearly recognizable, even if the verse is rather more anonymous. However hats off to these musicians for this beautiful interpretation. PS: I'm no Pino's relative :-)
