Instead of making the pitha from scratch use a flat pasta(like shells-pasta; ribbons-pasta, broken up lasagna sheets, or macaroni) to the dal and cook the traditional dal-pitha. My granny used-to make the traditional dal-pitha in Duban(South Africa) back in the 70"s. After she passed this was the cheat recipe I got my mum to make, and referred to it as Dal-Pasta. It was a logical progression for convenience.

@@Rostone yes from India. This is called dal dhokli here are made with tuvar dal ( yellow split pigeon pea dal) or just masoor ki dal (red). Very famous Gujarati dish. There is stuffed dal dhokli version too!
@@Rostone dal dhokli is not the same thing as dal pita. Dal pita or dal piti is a dish cooked in the state of bihar. Most indo mauritians specially bhojpuri people ancestors comes from bihar and this why we cook dal pita in mauritius
