In The Piñata King, filmmakers Paul Storrie, Chris Lee, and Charlie Kwai of Tripod City profile a town full of piñata makers-and the papier-mâché master who started it all.
For more than 50 years, Francisco and his family have been making and selling piñatas.
Although most of his colorful works of art end up being destroyed, Francisco finds happiness in bringing joy to the children of his community. Now, he continues his legacy by sharing his process with others from his small town outside Mexico City. In The Piñata King, filmmakers Paul Storrie, Chris Lee, and Charlie Kwai of Tripod City profile a town full of piñata makers-and the papier-mâché master who started it all.

In a town full of artisans, some families have been creating piñatas for over 50 years. What did you find most interesting about this town's piñata culture?
National Geographic It's evident that they're skilled artisians, they look really good, no wonder that many feel bad for breaking them
Where is it?
What town of México?
National Geographic i Live in México Puebla
My father got diabetes type 2 becuase of piñatas. Its a gateway drug.. jaja joken.
Dora entered the wrong hood
Reno Blaauw yeah , she sure did
"You sell joy to children" as they stomp in Dora's face haha
Good film though, nice cinematography
At the end of the day, it's an art that's meant to be broken and smashed. But, if it does make the kids happy, all the more reasons to make it then. I hope they continue to give joy to the kids. Thanks National Geographic for sharing.
You're right, Azliana! We can appreciate both the beautiful craftsmanship and the delightful joy of the children that these piñatas showcase.
I love that an entire town shares in this beautiful art form!
We too love how this traditional art form connects the entire community together!
I loved what he said in the end: "As long as there are children in the world, there will be piñatas, there will be parties, and there will be fun." So simple yet so beautiful!
This really brought back great memories of the first time I made a pinata with a balloon and newspaper, what a great town of artists
We're so happy this video brought back nostalgic memories of creating your own piñata, Leola! It's truly amazing to see Francisco and his family inspiring their community with the art of piñata making.
I want to make a piñata now. Anybody else? :)
Wonder how many Trump Pinatas they made. I heard those were high in demand for a while.

These are the most creative Pinatas I’ve ever seen. They need to sell these around the world and not only for bashing but also for creative decoration around the house.
Man I miss having piñatas for my birthday, I feel old 😩😩

I like mexico travel
It's great to see and know that some things are still hand-crafted, and not merely mass-produced in giant factories by huge machines and robots and computers.
Awesome 👍❤
It was nice watching
Awesome ideas
Greetings and Happy Friday! 👋👽 I bring coffee ☕ to get your morning started. Have a great weekend. 😉 By the way those are some great looking pinatas. 👍
translation would be nice. beautiful art that I enjoy watching how they are made. bravo!!
Glen Godden it has subtitles.
So Awesome to know now, that others truly respect the very "Art" that they are. It would be unheard of to smash your hero ! Being from East Los Angeles, I've seen my fair share of pinata's but Francisco's family ones are exquisite ! And should all be in a museum !
these are the best pinatas i ever seen
What’s sad is that all these beautiful piñatas get destroyed
It's a good thing I never forgot my mexican spanish. Hell it's my first language that I've spoken and my parents never taught me, but when I entered school I was taught English though I don't remember how I started to speak it.

don't they need the rights to use these characters in order to profit from them lol
ITS MEXICO, so no lol
I mean, they're selling these in their town and its surroundings, I don't think that they are making millions out of them
Also, I'm sure that at least some of these characters already fall into public domain

Nope

Oh, I always took it as fact that that was the case for all of Mexico.

If it looked like Donald Trump, it’d make it easier for ppl to destroy it lool
Curious Gal my relatives bought one in Mexico that looked like him.
They spend all their time building pinatas when they could be fixing theor homes and making their lives better...
Who said their homes need fixin' or that their lives aren't any good? Just because you I don't see how they live Beautiful...doesn't mean it isn't beautiful to them. What you see as "good" thru you perception of life doesn't mean that's the only way to live. They are simple people.
Chris Lee and Paul Storrie, take a lot of antidepressant pills and acid at same time to make these movies.
Poor Dora
