So for the first people in Texas history we are going on a field trip to the Caddo Mounds. I would look into that as a possible field trip. If you have more than 12 people they will do a field trip but they also have neat tours a few that include backpacks with items needed to complete the tour like a nature study were you go around and identify all the plants used by the Caddo people to make medicine. And a steam backpack with little challenges to complete during the tour.

I have a question, are you teaching foreign language in your homeschool? and if so which curriculum are you using?

My youngest likes to use The Cultured Kid. We worked through it last year as a family. Great for early introduction! My oldest is using Duolingo. Fun and she can easily use it on her own.
Formally we've not done a foreign language curriculum. I have never found one that is formal enough to be a good full curriculum but also easy to use and enjoy.

Comment on Studies Weekly: I wanted to use their new science format for 1st grade a couple years ago since it seemed engaging. I emailed them bc, at the time, it didn't look like they gave me the option to purchase it as a homeschooler. I emailed them and their response was that the new science format would not be "best for you as a homeschooler." I promptly emailed them back and told them they had no right to make those decisions for me as a homeschooling parent. They are an absolutely awful company and I won't use them ever again.

Oooh that's really gross! Just take it as it wouldn't be good enough for you and your learner.❤️

@MakingEverydayMagic that's exactly what I did. They don't deserve our hard earned cash, IMO. Good secular science is so hard to find. We eventually settled on Mystery Science!

Please anyone!! We are new to Texas and fairly new to homeschool. I have a first grader. But finding social studies and Texas history for her has been my biggest hiccup. I’ve started studies weekly but like u said it’s seeming to be our least favorite. What other kits can you recommend for this level. I need something all set up this year and ready to roll. We have had some unfortunate family events and I don’t have a lot of time to plan right now Something online would be ideal Please help. Am I over analyzing social studies?!?!

I would recommend Skill Sharpeners Geography. You can do 1 page a day. It's a workbook. Yes, it says geography, but it's more of social studies. Let me see if I have a video.
