Darren James Lockyer (born 24 March 1977 in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian rugby league television commentator and former player. An Australia international and Queensland State of Origin representative captain, Lockyer spent his entire professional career with Brisbane Broncos and is frequently hailed as one of the Greatest Players of all-time.
The best player NRL ever produced...He has the best Sportsmanship and Leadership. A true Legend and living immortal of the Sport. It is all because of his game that I am a big fan and supporter of Broncos Club.
It pisses me off whenever the so called experts talk the greatest ever we hear Smith Thurston Slater Lewis Johns..
But everyone leaves out Lockyer he's always overlooked and it pisses me off

@Jah P No, Johns is an immortal because the panel knew it would get right up the nose of QLD, which had 3 or 4 better players waiting for Immortal recognition. Johns couldn't even cement a starting gig in SOO at No. 7, and he was always outplayed by Langer. Along with Hayne, he is the most over-rated player in Origin history.

In his last home game with a broken jaw, the knowledge of it being sudden death football and the weight of the crowd and the opposition who know he’s gonna get the ball. He puts the field goal over to seal the match. How can he not be the GOAT???

I HATE QLD in Origin like no other (hate only in the sporting sense of course) but if Darren Lockyer isn't Immortal material and one of the best players and nicest blokes to ever lace on a boot then I must be an exceptionally poor judge. What a champion he was. Unfortunately for me, he was responsible for beating us Blues on so many occasions almost singlehandedly at times. I'd give Ron Coote, Brett Kenny & Mal Meninga the next 3 spots then I'd definitely say Lockyer is next Immortal without any doubt. After that it's Cam. Smith and J.T - more bloody QLDers bugger it. Sob....

Lockyer was a real thorn in the side of NSW sides over the years, but we can appreciate greatness when we see it, and will acknowledge it no matter which side of the border they come from. Eddie sadly you appear to perpetuate the stereotype of a Qld origin supporter - just blind hate towards anything NSW is your default position. It doesn't have to be so.

I'm a blues fan but have huge respect for Lockyer. Not only was he a great player and pulled off too many clutch plays to recall, he was also a gentleman and played in the right spirit. He was also quite humble about his achievements - a rare quality amongst the broader Qld population :)

I rate Joey as the best 7 still over JT but by far Locky was the best 5/8 I used to hate it when he played against NSW he was the player I feared the most from that team.
Best player to do it in two positions. Making him better than Andrew Johns. Plus 4 premierships. Wished he had McCullough, Hunt and Boyd around those last few years 🔥 only player these days that reminds me of his game is Cleary. Just the way he controls the things. Sam Walker is also looking promising.

Being a kiwi were blessed with the all blacks. Lockyer is one of the greats of league. But only as good as a Damien mckenzie in comparison to the mighty all blacks. Wouldn't even make a starting line up.

My favourite player. I grew up watching Darren Lockyer. The greatest and best player the League has ever seen. His loyalty to the Broncos is also unmatched. He refused to go play for other teams, and played over 300 Games for The Bronos plus Origin and National. Idc what anyone says, his greatness is unmatched and he is the GOAT.
The guy was phenomenal in all aspects of the game, never more so than as Captain.
I recall their grand final winning season and they were getting pasted by Canterbury in the prelim and through sheer force of will he led the fight back. Making tries, scoring them, it was simply awe inspiring.
