I remember watching this game and getting goosebumps, it didn't matter to me that he wasn't going to play next game, nor did it matter that the Broncos wouldn't make it much further, the script was written perfectly.
It did matter that he wasn't going to play because with him in the squad they had a real shot at premiership

Neither side made the Grand Final, but this was easily the best match of the finals series. St George put in the best performance from a losing side that I can remember. When we won that, I thought there was no way any other team could stop us. I'm sure we would have won Prem 7 that year had Locky played in the prelim against Manly.

Turn on closed captions and go to the field goal called live. Even the subtitles knows what its talking about
this was the year that could have been for brisbane. Lockyer missed the rest of the finals and the broncs just missed out. In the end, not a bad way to go out for the legend Lockyer.

My dad once told me, when Wally Lewis retired we thought we would never come across such of an amazing player who could fill his boots, then Lockyer came along and stood up and created his own Legacy. Once Lockyer retired we asked ourselves maybe it's just a 2 of a kind thing. but now I'm starting to wonder if Ben Hunt could be the next one to fill in them boots that Lockyer and King Lewis left behind. Only time can tell I guess.

Totally agree. It's because Andrew Johns is the golden boy of NSW Rugby League. He openly admitted to taking drugs, kept his job, and was inducted as an Immortal. Great player, but when deciding on an Immortal, they should take into account their actions away from the game as well. That way, maybe people like Dugan and Carney will clean up their act off the field. Wouldn't surprise me if Prince Gallen was inducted.

Was the best fullback in the game, was the best runnng 5/8 in the game and then finished the ultimate on field general. Can’t really do any better than that.
The funny thing is, if this game was played in this era, he is off the field for a HIA and misses the rest of the game and we don’t get this finish that is footy folklore.
