If I’m going to have to choose between the two, it’s locky every day - this video just highlights his pure instinct, versatility and ability to read a play well in advance of anyone else on the paddock. More often than not , he knew exactly where Billy would be and delivered him some magnificent service

As a Blues man I hated seeing these 2 in action but being totally honest they are both 2 of the best footy players I've ever seen play. Slater was/is the best fullback of all time and Lockyer isn't far behind as a fullback and only a select few absolutely amazing five eights I'd put infront of him too.
If It wasnt for injuries, Brett Stewart wouldve been up there bro 🤙🏼 from a Maroons fan.

well as a maroons fan, I hated seeing joey johns with bred Fitler in the NSW halves... I hate to admit that the blues were at their prime.

My two favourite players. Slater is pure speed and talent. Locky is skill and perfection - his reading of the game and timing is impeccable, love those set plays.

That core group of Lockyer, JT, Smith and Slater are unbelievable. That combination of IQ, skills, and speed.

No one could read the game like Locky. How many times did he score from spilt balls because he saw the mistake coming. Freakish.

Best 2 players I've ever seen better than Cameron smith in my opinion.
There's something unnerving about Slater, Cronk, Smith all looking like accountants but being unbelievably good at the game.

Lockyer the ultimate poacher. Seemed like any time NSW made an error, who else but Lockyer was there to pounce. It's almost uncanny the way he could see a mistake coming from the opposition and all he had to do was be present and ready to capitalise. Really his awareness was off the charts.

Queensland should create a stature for locker. He is one of the best sports man on planet I ever seen. Lockyer is a lover of the game, never seen him have a drama with any players. The only problem with lockie on the field when he gives alot of headaches to the nsw.

We look back on it as being hectic but lets not forget we still were never looked on as the juggernaut we see now. For some strange reason NSW (team,fans,media) really never respected the team enough even after winning 4 in a row.
NSW hardly respected QLD's superior team. Now we see they got a lot of good players and are the favorites but we still won the opening game.

How sweet it is ! Darren Lockyer, the best ball-follower ever in RL has a major highway named after him. Billy, at the rate he's going. should , say , have a section of the Bruce Highway named in his honour - for his playing and Origin coaching. Watching this was pure pleasure.
If Thurston, locky, and slater aren't immortals, Andrew Johns should be embarrassed.
Its 2023 and slaters still beating the blues. Locky had the most clutch origin moments.

I wasn't old enough to see him playing live but I've never seen anyone even close to Darren Lockyer.
