Sandra Gomes Pinto is really good! She explained very clearly. She gave an example of the pension tax for America. This important video should have more viewers. I will contact her office. I saw a doctor in Braga, Portugal on video for 7 minutes, they charged 107 euros because I don't have private health insurance in Portugal. I found it was very expensive.
Sandra is correct about the Portuguese people. But I am biased because they are my blood brothers and sisters. On my first trip to Portugal (ancestral Azores and Lisbon) in 2018, I experienced the kindness and generosity of my people first hand that I have always known. It is not unusual for your rural area neighbors to drop by with an offering of freshly picked vegetables from their abundant gardens. Sharing is caring!
Thanks for the great information! I just received notice from the Boston Consulate that my residency visa is approved. I am very interested to know whether my current status makes me eligible for the NHR program. Sandra I've reached out to you through your website. I Have: -Approved residency Visa (visa is currently at the Boston Consulate and I am in Lisbon) -NIF (registered to my US address) -Registered rental contract -Bank account I Don't have: -SEF appointment -Residency card James, is your background photo from somewhere in Portugal?
The Portuguese government has every right to limit and monitor who is seeking entry into the country. Sri Lankan drivers working for the Bolt ride share service? Sounds very suspicious to me! The gentrification of Portugal is a double edged sword IMO. I am seeing very few apartment rental options in Porto relative to the population size of this city because so many units are being blocked off and unavailable to regular rent paying tenants, thanks to Airbnb customers and their registered hosts.
In order to apply for NHR after holding D7 visa, you need to become a tax resident first. Does it mean you need to actually live in Portugal for 183 days or more consecutively, you then can apply for NHR ?
I think Sandra is overly optimistic when she says the cancellation of the NHR program won’t have too much of an impact on retirees considering moving to PT. I think the drop will be significant to the point that in a few years the PT government will try to implement something similar to an NHR. That is my hope since we are considering the move within five years🤞
Visa holders by 31st Dec 2023 can still apply for NHR by 31st Dec 2024. Has there been an extension? Previously is was tax residency by 31 Dec 2023 and apply for NHR by 31 March 2024.
James can you ask Sandra-I already live here for one yr, SEF gave me a Título De Residecia, for 2 and a half years,NIF number, Utente number for the Center of healthcare. I’m disabled and have passive income from USA, disability insurance and have a bank, Millenium as part of my application in WA, DC that approved all requirements? I just spoke to my account in US and said that even with that SSDI and alimony: therefore 2022 taxes. I do have a portfolio but it’s like a 401K no taxes. All will only increase my income once it get to the retirement, as I am also entitled to my ex-husbands pension which should be much much more as he makes over 6 figures. How to I proceed applying for the NHR. Please ask he this question as a am alone, disable and cannot take more stress regarding too much stress. This will be very important.
yes i think so, it is not way to move there, do the third interview for the visa and to gamble if it will be denied or not...and then have 19K in a bank account, and moving expenses...yeah...very realistic for sure. Moving takes time, logistic and money...
I believe that Portugal is a great place to live but there are equally good countries that don’t tax pensions or other income earned in another country; I believe that this will damage the Portuguese economy over time. I had planned to move to Portugal but not now.

I agree the Azores people graciously got me drunk on their wine when I had no money on a stopover

Real estate speculation by foreigners is making impossible for locals to buy or rent a house

Portugal housing price is getting too expensive compared to other EU countries.

BTW, I do speak Portuguese!
You’re going to find out pretty quickly how important the taxes are to pensioners, I believe you’ll see a drastic reduction in visa applications

seems that my dream of moving to Portugal is going down the toilet...I am so sad.
