Picked this guy up recently, and ROTB SS Scorponok about a month ago. I love me some grunts. They can be any character you want to be. You can get a squad of them. It's all up to you.
To answer why GE Barricade sucks: Originally, Gamer Edition was going to just have the Optimus at the start. So one Voyager. Bumblebee and Barricade were rushed out so they could have a bunch out the gate, Barricade likely having barely any time in the oven. All the other GE stuff should (as far as I’m aware) had a less rushed production hence why the rest of the line has been pretty good!
How often the character comes out needs to be taken into consideration. We get roster-filling Decepticons every year, but there’s only ONE High Noon Barricade.
If I am remembering how the Autobot soldiers looked in the game, I think they might use the Sideswipe as a base with a comparable level of remolding as the Decepticon. Should be straight fire
I got this figure after work (i was in the toy aisle lmao) and I was genuinely impressed by it! Yes, it is a Barricade redeco but I genuinely had fun messing with it! Now I have one trooper that my GE Starscream can boss around haha
Just got four of these guys today and they are definitely good army builders and size up well with the prime vehicons and in a way makes two different forces for decpticons with the deception troopers being your more traditioned grunt that gets blown a lot while the vehicons are your special forces type of soldier , they still get blown up as well but are usually more threating than the grunts .
It's just a matter of patience, concept characters have already gained figures and obviously the Deceptcon prototypes will have their turn and there are three variations of them in the films, that means three different dolls, Hasbro won't want to lose that money.
Definitely looks like a 2010 moreso than the others. Would probably look pretty decent next to the original game figures as I still can't be bothered with many of these. Still tempted to get the Stascream, as he's apparently better than the pictures would suggest.
My only real problem is that his shoulders don't securely stay in place and that I can't get a good pointing pose out of him. But other than that, I'm happy with him.
I guess the one thing really sucks is that this *IS* a Decepticon soldier. That just screams "Army Builder" to me. And being in the Studio Series line, it's just very difficult to afford multiple of these guys T.T
My theory is that the development time / budget on the first batch of gamer edition figures was planned around them getting access to useful files from the games' development. They spent a bunch of time waiting and trying to get a hold of or make use of those files but eventually something went wrong or there was a technical wall and they had to start from scratch. Future waves aren't going to have that problem because they aren't wasting all that time trying to reuse CAD.
Speaking of crossovers, there was a Transformers/Star Trek crossover where Kirk got himself wired into the Enterprise and was able to turn that into a robot so why don't they make a Transformer toy that turns into the Enterprise.
Missed opportunity to renew the trademark on Vehicon. I ignored Barricade after the initial reports of how poorly designed he was so I didn't pay this guy much mind either. Had no idea how much had been changed between the two.
TBH I still kind of feel like that Barricade was Hasbro's way to find out how lazy they can be to still be able to have profit and to make people buy their stuff because I refuse to believe someone saw that Barricade and thought this was acceptable
these guys would be perfect if their leg kibble compressed a bit more i mean there definetly had to be a way to make the back of the leg kibble fold up and swing into the hollow legs. For the whole stability issue this could cause they can jsut add the armada starscream fold out heel.On a different note i would LOVE to armybuild these guys but 25 euro is so much😭
You can actually store either his gun or his arm INSIDE the backpack, with plenty of room for them to sit in it so you don't have to worry about losing whichever isn't attached to his forearm. Honestly that gives it a few extra points for me, since I hated the only thing between you and losing his arm/weapon was that one little tiny tab holding it on.

Barricade was straight-up an Authentics toy released as a mainline. I cannot recommend it in good conscience. The Decepticon Soldier improves that mold in a lot of ways, but I still feel like it's bad in different ways. Like you said, the purple is SO thin. If they'd gone with a darker, more gunmetal-ish grey and a brighter purple, I think it'd really pop, and would better match the look in the game. But man. Those legs still bring it down. For an army builder, I'm not sure I would want to buy this three times. Gamer Edition has been a real letdown.
I love this design big step up from barricade definitely went to see more soldier bots, I’ve just got the foc sideswipe figure and the gun he comes with looks great on all the bots including the voyagers and it’s got a 5ml peg so it can be held by prime and megatron
i feel like this would be an easy win of a figure if i just… didnt hate fuckin lookin at em. the colours are just really offputting, like it’s grey and olive green, it doesn’t say decepticon much less visual appeal. maybe if they decide to doll it up in prime vehicon colours i’ll bite, but he just does not have the drip like barricade did.
If the other drones get figures (which they should) I hope they get their own molds. Brutes, Titans, Jets, Shotgunners, and Rocketeers need their own molds, and I'd love a CQC specialist in core class if that's still around. And a commander class Destroyer Hasbro please! 🙏🏻
I feel barricade is originated from earlier FOC toyline which he could be canceled from releasing before collectors know what happened. That is why he looks so out of place between other toys we are having now

Love the decepticon solder and can’t wait for the autobot solder next but what I really want to see, is them making the decepticon and autobot flyers, I really and I mean I’ll sell my soul for the flyers. I always loved the designs for them. Like the aerial bots should be somewhat easy to do….its the decepticon flyers that’ll be complicated
Though honestly i don't mind the problems, i honestly feel like the sheer lack of knees was a deal breaking problem for me... also one thing that is confusing is there are actually two autotrooper versions one i actually can't remember if it got a vehicle mode yes or no but the flyers i prefer seeing fist(though the robot mode might be very limited in articulation though less than barricade from what i remember)
He is always so aggressive with his figures. I just imagine he has a display shelf of random broken tabs and loose pegs due to swiveling them like twisting a wing nut lol
I wonder if they’ll do a voyager shield solider or a leaper while this mold is improved it’s still not the best better than before but still a few issues, or if we’ll get more repaints from this

I just got this guy today, for a few bucks cheaper at Target. He'll pair nicely with my studio series 109 Megatron and Prime Rumble.

I think the reason why infantry is so big is because to me if they remold is he kinda looks like the undead zombies from the first episodes of tfp
kinda seems like the toy was engineered for the old wfc/foc toys in a way, like its got some of those design conventions
I think color wise they could have used a dark grey instead of light grey since light grey washes out the bright purple.
