This one took a lot of time to research and write so drop it a like if you enjoyed it!
Here's a couple that missed out. Any other bargains you can remember?
Jimenez, 181, points 2018/19
Forward
£5.5m -> £6.9m
King, 178 points, 2016/17
Midfielder
£5.5m -> £6.2m
Raphinha last season?
ings 198 points 2019/20 ?
Great video, these are the ones we love to see
@@sinhajgaming7091 yeah, ings and de bruyne were deadly duo at that time
Matt Doherty at wolves had a pretty great season if I remember rightly
Ah Michu, had him in from the start because I'd seen he'd gotten a team of the year card on FIFA the year before, felt like a genius those first few weeks
Fifa/EA know all. Not going to lie I’ve done the same before. With future stars and other promo players
omg me too, love it when my fifa/fm picks do well in fpl. First was demba ba then michu. Bought them both as i know them from my fifa career mode. Not always lucky tho, had joelinton a couple seasons back haha
team of the season card?
I had the same with sinisterra but then he got injured and had to take him out
@@GarethBennettGolf yeah like saliba future star
The three I remember that you've omitted were the year Bale was classified as a defender and played as a winger, the Aaron Ramsey breakthrough season, and Charlie Austin scoring plenty as a 4.5m striker the same year Kane took off. Enjoyed the memories in this one, thanks for the videos
Jesus this season will go down like this. If any player has 80% ownership, they fucked up the price
Love the random content. Best value player. Worst score and so on. Keep up the good work. You’ve helped me score my best every total in 5 years of FPL and I’ve got 8 weeks to go 😂. Has been great following your journey to the top and it’s almost impossible to stay there if you’re giving out your ideas and thoughts. As FPL managers though. We do appreciate it
Thanks Gareth appreciate that.
John lundstrum man, what an FPL legend. Remember having him when he got that brace against Burnley
As an arsenal fan, Michu gave me nightmares that season. The guy was unstoppable, I even remember Sir Alex Ferguson beefing with him saying " I've never heard of him" and he scored against them the following game.
Lundstram what a legend, anyone remember when he scored 2 goals and got a clean sheet? Got a 20+ point haul from that game!
Ummm yes, we just watched the same video you did?
@@kevinconway2965 😂😂😂
Scoring like a midfielder and Dallas is his replacement in fpl the next season!
Sir Dallas though.
@@kevinconway2965 😄😄😄
The memories. Some of these broke my heart because I was too stubborn to get them in believing they were flash in the pans.
Great work on this Video mate 🔥
I never got to own Stuart Dallas 😭 That Brace Away at City still hurts as it cost me one of my Mini Leagues!
Same with me and Martinez I should’ve just taken a hit but I delayed the transfer so long and was at a big disadvantage because of it
Great video as always! Really like these kinda ”record squads”! Keep up the good work! 💪
I was just about to say king until I saw you had included it in your pinned comment ffs, wanted to sound smart. I actually picked him up before his incredible form started. Still remember the mahrez and alli prices like they were yesterday. Also well done on finding the individual prices, cant imagine it was easy
Transcript for anyone interested:
- Every year we start the FPL season wondering who the next hidden gem is, waiting to be unearthed. There's always a few to varying degrees and you only get the chance to capitalise once before their prices are corrected the next season. In today's video we'll be looking at the most extreme cases of this ever, when FPL got the player price, and sometimes even position completely wrong. The team is packed with cult heros and some of the most memorable individual seasons we've ever seen.
- We'll start in goal and it's Emi Martinez from the 2020/21 season where he'd just got his transfer from Arsenal to Aston Villa and priced only 4.5M. The Villa defense had been unconvincing up until that point but he had a significant impact, and went on to keep 15 clean sheets and accure 27 bonus points to finish on 186 points. The all-time goalkeeper record was set by Brad Friedel all the way back in the 2002/03 season who got 187 points. Therefore Emi was just 1 point short of tying the record and in GW38 he got his only yellow card of the season which would have otherwise meant he tied the record.
- John Lundstrum, or more commonly known as Lord Lundstrum cemented himself as an FPL cult hero in the 2019/20 season. Sheffield United had earned themselves promotion to the premier league, a campaign which Lundstrum had only featured in sparingly, only starting a few times all season. As a result he was priced at 4m, though this wasn't the biggest mistake FPL made. They'd classified him as a defender and he didn't get any minutes in defense all season. He had a box to box midfielder role that season, starting 34 times, scoring 5 goals, 4 assists and 144 points. In GW11 he scored twice in a home match against Burnley, kept a clean sheet and got all 3 bonus for a 21 point haul. Not bad for a 4m defender.
- Dallas joins the defense though hardly a defender for many games in the 2020/21 season. He was a very versatile player that season, playing LB, RB, CM, RM and even attacking mid. He kept a respectable 12 clean sheets as a newly promoted side, but scored 8 times and assistign 3 times for a huge 171 point season. The following season he was reclassified as a midfielder and got a price hike to £5.5m. Many new players were caught out by his positional change after seeing he'd scored 171 points the previous season, unaware that he'd been incorrectly categorised as a defender.
- Alexander-Arnold is one of the most expensive defenders in FPL history, but in his breakout season back in 2018/19 he started that season priced only 5m. It was van Dijk's first full season, and the same season Alisson joined where he went on to win the golden glove with 21 clean sheets. Trent played 29 times, scoring once and getting 13 assists aged only 20. he rose from £5m to £5.8M that season, finishing strong with 6 assists in his final 6 games. The following year he got a 2m price hike to £7m.
- Although Dele Alli's career has declined he was a brilliant player when he first broke into the Premier League, and an excellent piece of business by Spurs. He was signed for an initial fee of £5 million from MK and likewise priced £5m on FPL. He went on to score 10 times, assist 12 times for a 166 point season. He got a hefty 3.5m price increase the following season, which ended up a bargain again as he went on to score 18 goals and 11 assists for 225 points.
- Next up is a true FPL cult hero, Michu. He was everyone’s favourite midfieler that campaign, Michu took the English top-flight by storm in the season of 2012/13. The Spaniard arrived in Wales as a virtually unknown player, and was priced at 6.5m as a midfielder. Very few picked him up from the beginning, but he exploded onto the scene with 4 goals and 2 assists in his opening 3 games. As it turned out midfielder was the wrong classication, as he played the majority of his games as a centre foward. He went on to score 18 times and pick up 3 assists in 35 appearances for a 190 point season. He even earned himself an international cap for Spain from that season, though he never hit the same heights again and sadly the remainder of his career was hindered by injuries. He retired aged just 31 after coming full circle and spending his final year at his boyhood club Real Oviedo where his career had first began back in 2003. Regardless, Michu has the fondest memories from that year, in an interview he said in a footballing sense it was the best year he ever had. That same season Swansea went on to lift the League Cup thanks to Michu's contributions.
- Leicester’s success under Ranieri will go down as one of the greatest achievements in sport, never mind the insular world of English football. Mahrez was pivotal in that title winning 2015/16 season. The season before Leicester had barely survived relegation and Mahrez was priced at a reasonable 5.5m from 4 goals and 5 assists. Mahrez has been unplayable at times and exceeded all expectations scoring 17 times and picking up 11 assists as Leicester did the seemingly impossible, winning the Premier League where they'd only been given 5000/1 odds by the bookies.
- Another man who exceeded all expectations is Mo Salah who broke several record in his debut Liverpool season back in 2017/18. His starting price was 9.0m which makes him by far the most expensive player in this team, and yet he was still a snip for 9 mill. He went on to net 32 times which beat Ronaldo's record for goals in a 38-game season. Having scored in 24 of his 38 appearances he also set a record for the most games scored in. In fact he even became the first player to outscore three entire Premier League teams in a season. He also picked up 12 assists and 26 bonus for a record breaking 303 points.
- One of the biggest pricing mistakes in FPL history was Kane's 2014/15 season where 20 year old Harry Kane was priced at 5.0m. The previous season he'd netted 3 times from 500 minutes played, but that following year he scored 21 times and assisted 7 times. He was involved in 48% of Tottenham's goals and finished the campaign with 191 points. Truly one of the biggest value players in FPL history for points per million.
- In the same season Dallas scored 171 Bamford also surprised everyone. Off the back of promotion from the Championship Bamford only had a single premier league goal in his career, certainly an unproven player at the top level. The 2020/21 season saw him score 17 goals and assist 11 times for a 194 point season. He only started the season at 5.5m, 0.5m more than Kane's 191 point season.
- We complete the 11 with another player central to Leicester title winning season, Jamie Vardy. He'd netted just 5 times the year before and started the season at 6.0m. Vardy was lethal, instinctive, rapid and in November 2015 he broke Ruud van Nistlerooy's premier league record, by scoring in 11 consecutive games. He became a household name overnight, not just in the FPL world. You simply had to have him in your team, and he finished the campaign with one of the biggest price increases ever, rising from 6.0m to 7.4M. Vardy and Mahrez are the only two players to lift the premier league trophy the season that they got these huge scores. FPL returns are what make the game as exciting at it is, and this team is packed with them, so we can only thank them for the good memories over the years, and hopefully you've enjoyed today's video as a toast so some of the most memorable individual seasons we've ever seen.
- That wraps up today's video, thanks so much for watching.
Amazing research and information, pretty sure next season we will have new bargains like mitrovic , solanke, Harry Wilson , Christie,...
well researched - Vardy and Mahrez - yup good memories!
Been here since the original series of these which is what got me hooked to this channel...Please do more of these!!
LUNDSTRAM WAS CRACKED
Ice Cold Palmer ❤❤
Having Martinez in goal for me last season from the start 💪🏼💪🏼
May I add it was my first ever FPL season too. I think it was one the very few “smart” decisions I made at the beginning. I brought in Foyth from Spurs too..didn’t work out to say the least. Richie as well. But Martinez worked
Payet was a steal also. Had a great run at the start of his Hammers career
Another great video! Interesting, informative, help me so much to know more about FPL in the past. Highest scorers, disaster GW and now the underpriced gems, you just never fail to amaze me and other people as well with those content. Thank you Focal!
Pleasure, thanks for watching :)
Great video my good sir! Only started playing FPL in 19/20 and managed to get on the Lundstram train nicely, esp with the 21pt haul v Burnley you mentioned. Tad too late on the Dallas bandwagon as goals dried up a bit when I got him. Hope we get a proper OOP hidden gem next season! 👍
Finally the video is here! Awesome content always Oscar 🙏🏽
love videos like this!
Absolutely love this. So many great memories, thanks Oscar!
Thanks Dan :)
Betting against Salah has been like betting against the tide.
I would love another video like this
Michu is the best player when I start play FPL..
Refused to get Mahrez & Vardy all season thinking they had to drop off at some point. Couldn't have been more wrong.
Love the content oscar!!!
I love these sort of videos!
Great work👏
What a fun content when thr is no FPL. Well done with the loads of research 👏
Bale and Vardy are massive omissions. Bale as a full back. That year was amazing
Aha, I remember "nice to finally Michu".
Dallas😭 got him in as bench filler at the start of the season (debated between him or cooper) best fpl decision I ever made
Unique video. Love the content 👌🏻
Cheers Yacoob 🙂
Loving this! Well done Oscar!
Brilliant content Oscar thank you..Enjoy your jollies ace
Lord Dallas !
Banger🔥
The first person I put on my 2017/18 team was Salah. And I had him as a captain through the whole season
Love the originality
I had TAA that season since gw 1 😉🤞
And Salah since he ever joined us
Everyone in my mini leagues were so upset of my cpt Salah his first season 😂
Also bamford having him since gw1 was so enjoyable
Great video once again
Brought up so nice memories
Where was Gareth Bale
Maybe some honourable mentions also could be added
Nick pope 2017/18. Was Burnleys back up keeper and came on top replace injured Heaton. Pope got 11 clean sheets that season. Don't know his start price but I'd imagine it's a bargain
Man, I wish I knew about FPL 10 years ago :(
Cool series idea, Oscar. Scope here for an "All-time Best team of XXX players", where XXX is a given team (e.g. Arsenal players, City players, Wolves players, etc.) Scope there for say 30 vids, given how many teams have been in the Prem since FPL started.
Also, All-time Best FWDs, MIDs, DEFs, etc.
What about something on the greatest misses/overlooked players, or maybe differentials (i.e. players who got points but almost nobody owned).
Charlie Adam 10/11 - 192 pts at just 5.0
Dempsey 11/12 - 209 pts
still got WC, 2 FH and BB left, any tips on when. to use them?
Proud to say that I was there when most of these happen.
Good fpl history lessons
I agree with bamford. He was so cheap and got so many points.
Literally no one though he’d do well
Connor Coady this season could end up being in future videos like this.
In the top point scorers already and was 4.5 million
Mahrez made the best story ❤️
Great interesting video lad..m thanks
Looking forward to the series on most expensive players that did not perform
Superb video and cool concept!
What's the team value for this team? 🤣
@FPL Focal bro what's the name of the song background
Price mistakes the other way I'm thinking Firmino and Sanchez (utd). Would love to have Firmino for example, but he just doesn't score enough for his price range, and it's been like that for many seasons now.
Great video
Thanks Simon :)
Worth the wait Oscar!
Me having Dallas on my bench wasn’t nice 😂
Mahrez is just the most insane
Ashley Young when he joined villa
How did michu increase from £6.5 to £8.5 in one season. Is that a mistake? Did he rise 20 times by £0.1 in the season?
Addition of this seasons highest increase till date would have made it from great to legendary content..
I'd love to do one on this though there's no price rise data beyond the last 6 or so seasons. Finding Michu's took some serious digging, looking through old articles and archive.org!
Rouqe Santa Cruz, 07/08?
Fraser and Wilson?
Hi oscar
Here's an idea for another similar video - players whose real price matched their FPL price.
Imagine getting Kane for 5 mil now
🔥🔥🔥
From one FPL tragic to another. Really appreciate the effort you put into your content 🙏
*WOW!* 😮
Bangggggger
Pukki?
first! love you focal!
Thanks Allan! 👊
cant really call it price mistake. probably should be called biggest player price rises or something
1
First❤
1st!
Need to add palmer 🧊🧊🧊
Last season was my 1st time playing FPL, owning both dallas & bamford was amazing. Great video mate!
same mate
Same 😂 I have improved a lot
I bought dallas before he even started scoring
Same for me, I owned Martinez fairly early on as well
Thought about this while watching leeds vs wolves ,,, you look alot like bamford
my favourite kind of vids, no one else was doing these until focal got on it. class mate
Thanks so much 🙂
Michu is Haaland's favorite player, they traded kits last year.
Didn't know that, epic
Definitely one of my favourite players too. 2012/13 was the Michu season
Mahrez is so underrated we wish he get more appriciation
Love these types of videos, always interesting, thank you Focal!
Martinez even outscored a lot of forwards last season including Vardy!
I remember that lundstram 21 point haul very well....highlight of my fpl career LMAO
Insert gif
Lord Lundstram 🤭 Best ever FPL nickname
Fantastic vid, thanks for this
Lord Lundstram 🐐
Strujik was also handy last year
Can we have a series of the best players from each team competed in the prem while fpl has been going.
So from United down to Blackburn etc
JARROD BOWEN
Pogba so shockingly overpriced in fpl for a cm, no set pieces among other things imo
Overpriced vid could be interesting also
Bale was listed as a defender and got huge returns in second half of 2009/10 season
Love it mate
Thanks mate
