brave is the vocalist who ventures into Laura's world. Respect and appreciation to Becca Stevens for her authentic take on this monster of a song.
amen. well said.
I think Laura would have enjoyed this album and concert.
Billy Childs - killin-it on piano... Becca's voice like an angel - Album is a Masterpiece. oNe LovE from NYC
best album of the year and best song, great singer.
As a huge Laura Nyro fan, it's great to see her music being revived with every generation. This is a rather excellent reworking of The Confession. Thanks Billy, Becca, and all.
what a decade it's been for Becca - i've loved to love her for quite a few years now, and i believe i will love her as long as i live (and thankful for that gift...)
Yes, me too here. She is a mother now and it is surely a great experience to her. I hope we will hear more great music from her and I hope she will return to germany for some more great concerts. I'm a great fan of Jeff Buckley, Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell - and it is maybe too much for Becca to do justice to all of them, but there is no one who will do it better than her!
I adore this rendition. One of many. Heard her live with Billy twice. Blew my mind.
The greatest drummer in the world Brian Blade, plays with some of the greatest female singers in the world - Joni, Trixie Whitley and now Becca Stevens!! He knows his stuff (so does Scott Colley and of course Billy Childs!) Fabulous clip of a superb arrangement by Billy C - just wish this whole line-up would tour in Europe (or even just do one UK gig!) I'll more than make do with Becca and her band in 11 days time!!
I bought a week ago this Billy Childs album with new versions of Laura Nyro's music. Whoa, the unsurpassed quality of arrangements, singing & playing still gives me cold shivers. Respect
Thanks for helping to keep LAURA alive.
One of my favorites from the reimagining album. It certainly doesn't hurt that Becca is also a fav as well as supremely talented, and she also really seems to be having a lot of fun here.
The very best homage to Nyro's musical genius.. She got even better as she aged, but most casual music lovers listening to top 40 radio weren't aware of the person behind all those hit songs. In almost all cases, Nyro's own recordings of her songs surpassed the hits by those who did cover versions, including Streisand who sang "Stoney End".
The freneticism of her first say five albums will never be back could never be back how to work early on with the genius of New York, and LA musicians the wrecking crew for instance will never be heard again. She was a genius, and she was very young or old stuff I lost, but I still adore her. Listen to her all the time.
@@lilredscout same. First 4 albums. Before she dropped out the first time.
I think Becca is being a little too careful.
@@judithweiss6727 No one had the passion of Laura, but your right...
Wow! Great rendition of one of Laura's tunes that few would dare. Thank you.
Such a beautiful song and beautifully sung...I looked up the lyrics to read along so thought I'd post them here...thank you for sharing this great great song! Peace
Super summer, sugar coppin'
In the mornin'
Do your shoppin' baby, oh
I love my love thing
Super ride inside my lovething
You may disappear
But you'll be back, I swear
Would you love to love me baby?
I would love to love you baby, now
Would you love to love me baby?
I would love to love you baby, now baby now
No, no it's not pain
Super summer, sugar croppin'
In the mornin'
Do your shoppin' baby
I love my love thing
Super ride inside my love thing
You may leave the fair
But you'll be back, I swear
Would you love to love me baby?
I would love to love you baby, now
Would you love to love me baby?
I would love to love you baby, now baby, now
I keep hearin' mother cryin'
I keep hearin' Daddy through his grave
Little girl of all the daughters
You were born a woman, not a slave
Oh I hate my winsome lover
Tell him I've had others at my breast
But tell him he's held my heart
And only now am I a virgin
I confess, I confess
Love my love thing
Love is surely gospel
Love my love thing
Love is surely gospel
Love my love thing
Love is surely gospel
Love my love thing
Love is surely gospel
Love my love thing
Love is surely gospel
Love my love thing
Laura Nyro. Fuckin Genius.
🎉 for dissonance.
I just found this album.... If I knew of this concert I would have been there.
When I first heard The Confession on Spotify, I instantly fell in love with the song. Becca Stevens is an awesome singer. I'll have to check out more of her music in the near future.
I am also a huge Laura Nyro fan, and bought this CD. Love it
Wow...Great instrumentals and awesome vocal
Cool to see her grow into the song more & more 2nd time thru.
Awesome choice of instrumental mix for this gig. I'm loving the arrangements on the album & at Monterey, but extra fun to see in the Monterey vids how much fun the singers & players are having w/ this. Thank you for yr vision Mr. Childs. I'll be pointing my ears to yr other visions. And my wallet to this one.
BEAUTIFUL !!
They need to perform this at the Grammys
Awesome !
I Love this video and really dig Becca's rendition and voice on this tune! I have the CD and highly recommend it. However, I generally come back to listen to and watch this video for Brian Blade's absolute mastery of the drum kit in this set.
I wish becca coulda done all the songs on this album, everyone did a brilliant job but I just want to hear becca on them in particular upstairs by a chinese lamp
Ah, como eu adoro ouvi-la cantar!
Would have been better if the vocal was a bit stronger in the mix. Sounding very thin compared to the solo instruments.
Becca Stevens is always good, but her best comes out when she does her own stuff.
Nice job, but Laura Nyro cannot be surpassed.Glad to see her song being kept alive. It's a song that deserves to enter the American Songbook & belongs at the jazz festival.

Love Laura.
One of my Laura favorites, great job on a difficult task😊 the original is so utterly perfect but this version effectively tweaks a beautiful song, so easily could this remake have been a complete mess. But it’s beautiful
I could listen to her all day. She sounds so much like Laura!
👍👏
Beautiful,,,wish her voice was a little stronger in spots
Sometimes, if you can't write something nice . . .
great piece, terrible rec sound
Why is she smiling during this song? Laura sang this with balls. Not sure what this singer is doing or thinking. She's polite. She's not in the song - she's on the stage.
Singers don't inhabit Laura Nyro songs and pieces from her muses. Nyro and her muses inhabit those singers who allow their own experience tempered voices to find a flow of their own. It didn't take balls for Becca or any singer to perform and\or record a Nyro piece. It did take loving their love thing and trusting in the muse(s)...This is an extraordinary arrangement. While the vocal dynamics in the mix is not optimal, this is a live recording at Monterey Jazz and should be considered part of an experience that can never be repeated and shouldn't be made into any kind of simulacrum. Bravo to this group of courageous musicians and may their vulnerability show in long lives of making their own sounds a'musing...(Kudos minstrel Rev Alan Dick and Betsy Claussen of Trinity Arts Center, Berkeley, CA circa early 1980's into eternity)

@@ulpana great comment. thank you.
yes she' sounds very careful and precise. But so is the arrangement. Not the spirit of the piece.
