I've always used the roll off and lean to defend uppercuts, just easier for me. Although I've seen guys who are really good at catching it. Nice video

My only criticism is that this is not practical advice for a boxer already on the inside, engaging in body to body combat. There, I definitely would advise catching uppercuts. Catch with the mirror hand and move outside of that punch. From there you are in a favourable position to make your next move (regardless of whether attack or defend).

yeah, uppercuts are thrown on the inside and he is talkin about keeping distance.

@@DeepDeepEast he's talking about defending from uppercuts.

@@TonyMarinou82 yeah I mean you are right: he is not telling how to defend against uppercuts when fighting inside or closing distance. Instead his advice is to keep distance, but uppercuts are usually thrown when trying to get inside and I won't get inside if i keep distance.

I’m super guilty of leaning in

There's nothing wrong with leaning in just as long as you time it right. He may not throw upercuts.

That's definitely the easiest way. No need to figure out if it's coming high or low. (Nice channel, btw!)

Thanks, Jason. I'm a fan of your work and definitely your approach to the science. We should collaborate some day and do some cross promotion. I'm sure many of my fans and readers would enjoy your methods.

the thing that is bad about catching it is that your opponent will probably throw a left hook right after they throw the uppercut.. that's say you block the uppercut with your right glove when you do that you can't really block the left hook after that.. you would have to probably roll under it.. you can still catch it with your glove but you would have to do it really quick and it's hard to do

Sorry - other than that - I love these videos and honesty they have helped me a lot. Just think there's a lost art as far as the inside game is concerned.

But this is why if you know the natural rhythm of punching, you'll go down with the glove and then roll off to the side. Your hand can't be in all places at once so your body should move as your hand moves. It's better to find ways to free the hand so it can counter...instead of forcing the hand to always be guarding your face.

Its funny that way he said not to use and for a good reason is how all the gym teachers teach u to defend against uppercuts lol I guess u use your opposite hand to catch it and then counter with a hook with your free hand but unless u got really good reflexes that's how u get cracked in the jaw lol 😂
