What are the best free vector drawing and vector apps? There are two that come to mind. Vectornator and Inkscape. Inkscape works on Mac, Windows and Linux and version 1.0 is incredibly robust for free open source software. Vectornator is fairly new and great for vector art and interface design. It started life as an iPad app but they have since released a Native MacOS app as well.

It would be great to see some Vectornator tutorials. It's so good but their user guide is very surface level
Bro I’m gonna be 100% rn but I use to have inscape and idk but it literally kept bugging so I switched to some other important stuff and stopped designing for a sec - so now I’m at a point where I should probably come out with a line of clothing and I need to putt vectors now but I’m in my car so I downloaded the vectornator app 😂 and just plotted a detailed samurai warrior! So it’s possible just look play around with it for a min - the besier tool is the forth tool down in app- to learn how to use the tool… Draw a square ✅
Pull vectors*
Brad, a video on inkscape would be great. I have been using it for years and it by far has the best trace engine of ANY program out there. So if you want to quickly get a sketch to vector I would def encourage anyone to check it out.
Thanks Brad, I was planning on saving up some money to buy Affinity Designer but Vectornator suits my illustration needs. Thanks again.💛
Visakh Ambedkar lets just hope they wont charge in the future
Do a course please on both. I think inkscape would be the one i would be interested in. But if you can, do both. I have taken about 3 of your courses. They are very good. I would for sure check those 2 out should you be inclined to make them. Please stay safe.
Check “Logos by Nick” channel if you want to learn Inkscape.
Awesome stuff there
An Inkscape course would be great. There are plenty of technical tutorials, but not many practical ones.
If you are reading this, I wish you all become successful, I can't wait to see the success of you all
Inkscape is a free vector powerhouse, with a good community behind it. And you can find tonnes of good tutorials. I now use Affinity Designer, but I still go back to Inkscape now and then.
Vectornator has been amazing for me on my iPad Pro. Haven’t tried it on the Mac but am sure it’s awesome as well
Same
Hmm, either Mac support still needs some work or this is some hardware acceleration issue, because Inkscape 1.0 runs like a breeze on my Linux machine.
Vectornator was an instant download for me. I took your Procreate class now I'm planning on vector images for simple backgrounds that way I can focus on the actual subject in my drawn illustrations more.
Hi Brad! Took your Procreate course either at Udemy or Skillshare about 3.5y ago. I do believe it was Udemy. Enjoyed! Learned a lilttle of Affinity Designer from a set of courses on Skillshare. From another instructor. Sadly, my Ipad conked just as I got to the selection tool and the marching ants. Learned a bit of Vectornator, from RUclips, on the iPhone. The smallness of the screen was getting to me, even though the phone is an XS Max. Thus, I turned to the PC and Inkscape. I wish Vectornator was available for Windows, but alas, not so! Said all that to say: I'd love to see you do tutorials on both the programs! I, and several others, would vastly appreciate it! Of that, I'm sure! Thank you much! Keep creating and posting!
you might want to change the first card to "tailor" anyway-- thanks for the great review about vectors!
A clear mark that Brad's a true artist. :) see @5:04 "disrcription" slide. Speaking of Typos... There's something that'd be valuable to me - a tool that scanned my work for any typos during each Save, then alerted me before I sent the file out for review.
I suck at freehand, been a draftsman in my career life. Did pen-n-ink, CAD. Been using Inkscape on Linux for a while, LOVE IT. Was following your tablet toots, I suck at freehand BUT, Inkscape is like tennis shoes. Krita has some vector tools as well as GIMP...........Inkscape can do freehand and the out come is vector, not bits on one layer and vector on another. If you do a few toots for Inkscape/Vectornator, the way you carry on......would be a meaning display of awesome.
Inkscape is just Amazing free software the latest ver. 1.0 is quite advanced. Great youtube tutorials are available eg. Logosbynick , Davis Media etc.
These guys are very helpful incase you have any questions.
Definitely would be interested in courses for these 2!
Good to know my experience with Inkscape on my Mac is not unique or a sign I bought the wrong device. I can't say I miss it, though; Affinity Designer has been awesome.
Love your new podcast format. What camera system are you using. And learns as well.
Yes, it would be amazing if you could do a tutorial on Vectornator. ✨👌
Please make a video on the best apps for animation for windows/mac os
Please
You can include paid ones also
Karthik S opentoonz
Krita is a good one
I have InkScape installed on all of my PCs' and am working my way thru using it. There is not a lot of tutorials (that I can understand) on it. I would love to have some tutorials from someone that speaks clearly and knows how to record with quality in mind for their videos.
Steven
YES!!!! For Courses
I would love an inkscape tutorial. We used to use it at university to run our laser cutter, but we did actual designs in illustrator lmao.
Please make a deeper review/full tutorial of Vectornator. For me it’d be really useful.. thanks
Yes a vectornactor /Inkscape
course please
Please do a Vectornator instructional video:-)
Inkscape works super fast on my Mac, if I boot into Linux. I really would like an Inkscape course.
I haven't been able to get the Ralphs Club yet but I've loved every one of them so far...
Do you have or can you make a video with what would you need to begin a graphic design job!
What is better desk top, tablet, laptop, ???
Ah thanks a lot Brad for hearing our request
I'd love a training video on Inkscape!
Who else is watching this on their bed in quarantine cause you’re bored??
iQueeneth Read all of your comments, I love Brad but I’m also bored in quarantine even though I’m an artist haha
@@spencergoth1cgutz205 no you're not
Love your art videos please do one for the iPad where you show the best free apps for drawing without Apple pencil
Brad can you do an episode about your whole setup for sketching and drawing like PC, software, graphic tablets, stylus, and phone.
brad you probably dident know but krita can also oparate vector
Yessir, a course on Inkscape would be nice! I can't afford Illustrator any longer, and I find Affinity Designer to be missing key features. I'm on Win64, btw.
Please have a tutorial on Inkscape, I can't effort Affinity right now
Torrent
@@rogerinhocudesapo1208 true ,but it needs a windows 10 higher than sp1 , even the bought one, I tried the trial..it won't install on my ver. Of windows
Funny! Thought the $$ problem would be with Adobe, as Affinity is so cheap on the iPad, and I think was 1/2 price on the Mac ($20-30 is not even 4 coffees!!! Or, not even one month of Adobe “service”.). Starving students exempted, I think everyone can afford a $50 app, if their career, or even interest, is there. Cheers, and good lucks!
Free Inkscape tutorials on TJFREE, Logos By Nick, and even machine embroidery, quilting channels (like Lisa Capen Quilts), and card making channels. Probably many others. Just search YT. Good luck! 🙂
The Pathfinder tool in illustrator is irreplaceable. I couldn’t imagine designing without it.
YES please do a Udemy course. I've been looking for one on Vectornator Pro, but I would take eoither and maybe both. Training is lacking on these.
Hey Brad ...Love your tuts...Does affinity designer and photo have a tracing tool like photo shop and AI?? Or do you have to manually have to trace everything?
You’ve finally reviewed vector apps... YES
I use Inkscape on both Linux and Mac OSX. The Mac version (as of Inkscape v1.1 in 2022) is not really native (yet. They're working on it), so the performance is poor and laggy even on powerful Macs. On Linux, it performs the best, better than on Windows too. I love Inkscape...forcing myself to learn it in 2009, helped me leave Adobe Illustrator for good, for my own studio work. At my Day Job, Illustrator is the defacto drawing program. I'm an expert at using both.
We love these type of vids brad
Hey Brad. I use more Inkscape to bridge the gap between affinity designer and illustrator. Image trace map it’s a feature you can’t find on affinity designer and it was essential for my workflow in illustrator. I love Vectornator but there is a big gap lacking of the features I use. Hope you can do more tutorials and classes about both programs .
I would like to see more on Vectornator please.😎
I have Vector Drawing and I’m new to graphic design. I would love and need a tutorial. I’m trying to design shirts and I’d like to have a main design that I can switch out the portrait and the text
U r so good in anything about art
i saw Vectornator the other day and thought to try it out. thank you for the video. i have a feeling i'll be going for Affinity too. also a question: if you know, by chance, an iPad program similar to inDesign that I could use for page layouts and such? i'm just looking for something to arrange my comic pages in.
Affinity and vectornator may be the closest apps. Figma using the figurative app can be used for print stuff too but it just takes a little bit more work.
I'd start with vectornator and figma first because they are free
I prefer Inkscape (on a PC) to Vectornator - simply because at first sight I know where all the tools are. I'm not a big fan of having to dig into an App to find simple operations or functions and so I deleted vectornator / Adobe Draw and every other vector App on my iPad.
It's a hard balance - make the user interface simple vs having the power functions and to me (your mileage will vary) Vectornator feels like a toy and I couldn't actually do anything.
So - it was back to Inkscape and illustrator for me. One thing though... THANKS FOR SHOWING ME I COULD PERSONALISE INKSCAPE 1.0!
Do you have any classes using infinite painter? It's available on both iPad and Android but for right now all I have access to is Android. Planning to buy an iPad to get access to procreate in the future.
I am extremely up for an Inkscape course!
Also curious about your screen capture software and editing process.
Whoa I'm early Also please make a tutorial on Inkscape, personally I find it extremely confusing hahah
Today I received my brandnew Huion Kamvas Pro 22 (2019) for just 319 Euros! Amazing price!
I only know inkscape from the video.. I've been meaning to start using it again
Has he ever made a video showing how he made those cards at 7:40? they look really good
yes we want inkscape tutorial
Who else is a fan of Brad??
me
me
Pretty much everyone here
Who else is an Artist/Animatior?? 🎨
Hey Brad, what apps would you recommend in general for free?
or what apps do you have on your iPad ?
Thank you 👍
I wonder if you have a tutorial that covers how you created that tailor game card ...?
so... this has been my big question with Vectornator... the business model...
I came from designing on a raster program and recently, I have been learning Inkscape. I try to learn something new about it everyday and I think its been somewhat not a bad progress for only 3 weeks. I am yet to design something for someone using it but I'm looking forward to it.
yeah brad plz show us more vector art!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi brad! I am stocked by vectornator but am confused why one can't set DPI for print :( do you know a work-around this? or could you recommend another free vector app for ipad? 🙋🏻♀
Inkpad by Envoza, Concepts, and Graphic are still my favorites so far. But when Infinite Designer finally comes out on the iPad, that will likely be the only vector app I use ever again.
Is it known that Infinite Designer is coming to iPad? I can't see any news about it.
Do a video on Figma as well. That thing is a beast when it comes to vector design.
Yes, on the vectornator.
Who else loves Brad?? 💜
Uhmm...I know this sounds like a stupid question but what does vector software means?
What's the differences between it and drawing app?
Uhhh..😅😅
Yes, I would be very interested
Hey man cool video didn't know that about inkscape.
Brad could you please re review the easy canvas on ipad...?? I heard its gotten better ....can you please??
I use Vectornator everyday
The Vectornator...I be back.... 😎
I'm interested in inkspace tutorials by you Mr.Brad
Inkscape is so smooth on my Dell laptop (that is why I am using over illustrator when I don't need to use AE), either your device needs updates or it's not for mac at all.
Mac version is not great. Linux and Windows version perform much better.
Sure, I'd lunge to see you do tutorials on Inkscape.
Yes we would like that!
It's funny to see how some of these open source programs have such a bad reputation with performance issues on the Mac (Mainly gimp and inkscape). I wonder what type of problems does developing for the Mac presents
Vectornator for Mac!! Please!! Have been an Adobe lifer but during the height of Covid, Affinity had it's software on sale for under $25. ea to help out Creatives hurt by the Pandemic! Amazing!! (I've heard they run sales, so keep checking back.) I was lucky enough to pick up both Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo for under $50.!! I've used both Inkscape & McGimp on Macbook Pro & they are GREAT but have issues as mentioned. I am very interested in trying Vectornator because (I may be incorrect, but) I've seen it will save files in .AI format (not sure HOW) but for that reason alone I've got to check it out!! TY!!
I would love to see advice on using these tools (:
NEW SUB HERE! Thanks for this. I would like a detailed tutorial for Inkscape (on a pc if it makes a difference). Thanks again!
Vectornator also works on iOS/iphones as
Vectornator is also available on
iPhone.
I would love a course on Inkscape
I’m currently using Inkpad but I hate how I can barely find tutorials on it
could you make a ibispaint review/tutorial please??
Inkscape was working well. I believe their was a new version or update. Stopped opening, now I can't download. Know what it could be?
Inkscape is awesome 😎👍🏼 On linux is 100%.
Ah yes vectors I don’t know about that-
Thanks!
Thanks
Does Inksckape run Adobe illustrator files? because I couldn't open them with Inkskcape =[ . Am I doing something wrong?
Do a course on Vectornator (iPad).
Interested in inkscape tutorial, I have PC and Android, and need free options usually.
Also looking for a program with comparable vector tracing software as it is available with Adobe. Honestly that might be the final decision. As far as switching. Can't seem to find it anywhere else. Is that just me.
Is there any app like sketch for the ipad Pro? For prototyping and stuff?
Vectornator is so good
Who else loves his videos??
How many comments you're gonna make?
Hmmm, can u tell me what is software that u use for animate?
I think Inkscape is just not optimized for MacOS. I use it on Linux and it runs like a breeze.
