When I first heard this song, I thought it was a bit juvenile for my tastes, but I've got to hand it to her and her producer, they turned what could be overly saccharine or childish into something that invokes nostalgia and humor and an almost sarcastic look at young love. Like the song is in on the joke of these young flights of fancy and feelings that many of us older people have understood for awhile.
I'm almost shocked to say this is one of my favorites on the album. I know it's a cliche at this point to call Grace an old soul, but honestly, this song evokes understanding of young love and emotion that should be beyond her years. Just wonderful, fun stuff.
Yes, the lyrics of this song seem to be written by someone much older. Nostalgia, you say? No, she's just a kid, nobody knows what's "nostalgia" at 13 years old.
A "sarcastic look at young love. Like the song is in on the joke of these young flights of fancy and feelings". I definitely agree. Except, the joke is on the OTHER person's youthful feelings. I don't find here an "understanding of young love ... beyond her years". No, it's just her keeping cool and emotionally detached, keeping a distance from that guy and his intense, youthful feelings. There's a difference between sounding plain old beyond one's age, and mature of understanding beyond one's age; I found here just the former, not the latter. So, you guessed right, I didn't like this song, though I like a lot several other ones from Grace.
Oi Vey, no not "nostalgia" in her mind, I'm talking about MY mind. She's not speaking to something that is beyond her age to understand, and in fact, because she hasn't likely had the first overwhelming sense of love that comes from a first intense relationship, and because she likely watches tv or films that deal with the same universal topic, she's writing to that. It's a pop-cultural understanding of young love, she just happens to capture a feeling that's pretty darn true. She's capturing a feeling she almost assuredly hasn't had, yet she pretty much nailed it. So yeah, it is "beyond her years" because it's simply not from personal experience, not because she can't intelligently grasp the concepts. You mistake my take away from her intentions. Besides, you seem to be putting words in my mouth; not a good look.
Also, what are you talking about? I wasn't guessing anything about your take, or even know who you are. What a bizarre way to engage.

You say now: "no, not nostalgia in her mind" (why so combative? that's what I also said), but, look again at the first sentence in your first post, and then the way it's continued into the second sentence; the most obvious reading of these is that you're saying something about the song itself (i.e., about "her intentions", not just about "your take away" from them). There was an evident misunderstanding here, and it had to do with your way of stating your own view.
Unfortunately, it doesn't end here. You claim now that I "seem to be putting words in your mouth". Let me assure you, that never was my intention - why would I? I actually 1. took quotes directly from your post (which would be, indeed, a bizarre way of putting words in anyone's mouth...), 2. expressed agreement with certain aspects of your post (those that I have quoted) and 3. expressed also my own viewpoint, and explained very clearly where it diverges from your post. And making an issue of that "you guessed right"... again, why so combative? That was just a funny way (a rhetoric device) of stating the obvious (that I don't like this particular song - which indeed should've been pretty easy to guess for anyone who read my post).
The above was nothing but a dissection of a misunderstanding, which would've been easily prevented if you had taken care (in your first post) to distinguish between writing about your own personal "take away" from the song vs. writing about "her intentions" in it; you did so in your second comment only. At least now the big gap between your viewpoint on this song and mine is clear. That's fine; the excessively combative style is not.

Have not been a fan of this song while it was in it's early stages of delelopment. She pulled it off like a pro, great song. I know she fought for this song to be on the album, good choice.

James - Graces first sang this at the Bean Runner Cafe I believe, at that time it was pretty raw. She than commented on one of her videos, I think Instagram that she was not sure if it would be on the album or not. She then implied again about it at one of her charity concerts how much she like it but was not sure if it would make the album or not but, she was hoping it would. I wish I could give you the exact instances as it is a really good question. It's not really inside info, just different comments she made while working out this song.

I really think it's a brain thing. The right bits of the brain working in her favor. There are those rare people who are born with such abilities. We kind of know this because of other things, like how an older guy who has always just been a sports and beer fella who doesn't appreciate art or care about it, who has a stroke and it effects his brain in a way that suddenly he's painting masterpieces and appreciating art in a way most never can. So yeah, this girl was born with the brain for it.
