- How to clean the GPU (graphics card) fan easy tutorial step by step:
Unplug your PC main cable.
Switch the PSU button to "0"
Press few times the power button on the PC so there is no electricity in it
Remove all the cables from the PC (keyboard, mouse, HDMI, VGA, etc.)
Now remove the side panel by unscrewing two screws
Unscrew the screws that hold the GPU
Remove the PCIe cable from the GPU
Press the retainer on the slot then remove the GPU
Unscrew the screws then remove the plastic cover
Be careful NOT TO unscrew the screws that hold the heat sink, if so you must reapply new thermal paste.
Now we can start cleaning
Then reassemble everything
I hope that this tutorial is helpful for someone.

Please remember if you open your GPU the warranty will be voided and don't clean it on a carpet due to the static electricity. (By the way mine is still working great in 2022).
Thanks for watching.
Id rather use that second to say ... GET THAT GPU OFF THE CARPET !!!
@@Hashslingingslasher- Thanks
Here's a tip for all youtuber's. You'll get more likes without ASKING for likes. Trust me.
Only thing I wouldn't recommend is cleaning it on carpet due to the static electricity
Don't vacuum it.... and don't vacuum it on a carpet. And above all do not open your graphics card if you care about warranty.
Kids do not do this at home.
You're doing this on carpet bud
instead of vaccuming the board, you can use isopropanol alcohol and a toothbrush (unused OF COURSE) and scrub it (just using a toothbrush is okay too). It won't damage anything and it will evaporate quickly (although I would recommend letting it to dry for and hour or two for safety meassures). Also like many have already pointed out, never deal with electronics over a carpet or clothing or magnets (lol) because it can generate static charges that shorts your circuits.
Work on a wooden bench or some other anti-static material. Before working with electronics, make sure to touch a metal object to remove any sort of charge you may have in you. If you are really paranoid, you can use an anti-static bracelet.
Also, if you're going to do a very thorough teardown, make sure to put thermal paste on the gpu core, and don't ignore the pads if they need replacements. I wouldn't recommend this for beginners. When you take it apart, be very careful with the fan connectors, they are fragile and can break.
this guy really just vaccumed his gpu. over a carpet.
I know that is not the best way to do it but after 2 years is still running great.
Lol didn’t even put new thermal paste on it
Hi, I did not removed the heatsink, that's why there's no need to apply new thermal paste.
Thank you.
@@WhatTube I own a blower style graphics card, and trust me it’s definitely worth re-paste my it. Plus if your tearing it down anyway, why not just put new paste in it. Especially the bog standard card.
This music makes me want to die
Isn't vacuuming will kill it? I'm looking on a way to remove the fans and cover for a 1660 without removing the heatsink, as it has stupid cover screw from the inside of the heatsink instead of out.
Yes vacuuming is not very good but mine is still running great.
In the 1660 you have to remove the heatsink first, without it's not possible to remove the fans or the cover.
@@WhatTube urgh.. I need to clean it at least once a year. My 1060 cover pops with outer facing screws, making cleaning easy. maybe I'll just do it with a leaf blower
Just blow it off with compressed air. I've never had to disassemble a graphics card once to clean it in all my years of PC gaming.
What’s super helpful i just found out today if anyone stumbles across this comment that you would like and should check out is how to make your own back plate for your graphics card, a simple acrylic panel cut down to size and double sided mounting tape stuck to the hifhest point mounting screws to keep your graphics card back from getting dusty and possibly shorting out from dust build up, another awesome thing to lengthen the cleanliness lifespan of your graphics card is to pick up some CRC Dielectric Grease from Lowe’s and use a Q-tip or fine paint brush to coat the back portion of the graphics card evenly with the grease. Seems weird but it’s non-conductive meaning it won’t short out from being on there and it protects the back from moisture, static shock and if you put an acrylic back to it then it looks that much more professional, glossy, clean and beautiful in your PC build
Hi, thanks. 👍
Why is this disliked ?
I really don't know, maybe because people don't want to see others succeed i think. Or they don't have anything better to do.
@@amanda.collaud That's true, it can be that as well.
lmao maybe because youre messing with static sensitive items on top of carpet :')
Yeah, I agree with the others. You should not use vacuum cleaner. Use compressed air/gas, hairdryer (not too near to the gpu and not in hot mode ofcourse) or even blow with your mouse! 😂
No one has mentioned how he set his GPU down on the carpet. Made me cringe so hard.
My man @WhatTube got a decent start, here's some more-
1) Wear an ESD anti-static wristband that is connected to GROUND (water pipe, elec outlet third connector, a metal stake literall in the GROUND, etc); this can be done with a copper wire stripped bare on both ends, one end wrapped around your wrist with metal touching your bare skin.
2) Place the GPU on a CONDUCTIVE surface that is also attached to GROUND; this could be the anti-static wrapper the GPU came in, or a metal cookie baking tray! Attach other end of alligator lead to GROUND.
3) Attach another alligator lead to the GPU metal backplane tab, and the other end attached to GROUND.
4) Use vacuum cleaner with brush end to get all the dust.
DO NOT PLACE GPU ON CARPET! Carpets are static electricty generators, and act as batteries too.
Yes this is the right way to clean a graphics card
