Finally a in-depth iPadOS 17 video! I’m pretty satisfied with iPadOS this year, only thing is that I still miss my Today View on the left pinned on the Home Screen like it was before.
LOVE the changes to Stage Manager. It is 95% customizable windows that everyone has always wanted. That last 5% is easily bearable. It still snaps into position (but with way more control and fine tuning) and window sizes still have some limits based on each app. With dock and side turned off, you get most of the screen, but still a small part is wasted. Overall, this is a game changer. If you use portrait mode, now you can split screen watching a beautiful size video while having a very useable Safari window for browsing. The biggest gripe I had about the M1/M2 12.9' iPad Pro has now been resolved. It still isn't a perfect laptop replacement, but it is there for most average users. Stage Manager in iPadOS 17 is the best update by far. Every other upgrade is just icing on the cake. The only change I'd like to see yet is being able to adjust window size from top or bottom and either side instead of only one or the other.
Love the minor updates to iPad OS especially the allowing of external cameras. For many not make it significant but for me is a nice quality of use improvement.
Honestly, I’m OK with Apple not redesigning Control Center this year. It’s such a critical piece to how Apple devices work that I want them to take their time. Think it through. If they need another year, that’s fine.
I just hate having to pull down in two different places for the notifications or the quick settings, while there's a whole section to the left of the home page that's dedicated unnecessarily to widgets. Surely quick actions could go in there instead.
1:50 Seeing the hello wallpaper in iPadOS basically proves the theory that iPadOS is basically a fair mashup of the two OSs, together. Making iPads have their own OS based on both Phone and Mac, is the best thing Apple had done to those who always choice a bigger and interactable screen.
Something I miss from the older iPad OS versions is having the today view. Where you could have widgets in a completely separate place to the left of your home screen while your apps had their own grid. I wish they would add that back as an option at least whether you want widgets on the grid or keep them on the today view separately. I was never a fan of these widgets on the grid. The only way I'd be a fan of it is if they make it like Android where you can customize the widgets to be anywhere on the grid at any size, then I'll take that over the today view.
@@philliplanos But it has to stay on a grid, does it not? Like in Android, say you had an empty home screen, you move a widget to the bottom right, it stays there. On iOS/iPad devices, you do the same thing, it'll snap back to the icon grid. Has this been changed in these betas & you can place widgets anywhere without them snapping back to the item grid? Because if not, then my original comment still stands.
Great review as always, Aaron. Was looking out for Stage Manager changes as I use it all the time but the two key annoyances I have with it they've only changed one: freely re-size any window. But the biggest annoyance is you can't choose an app without all the others jumping to the side. I wish they'd change that
External cameras support will be huge for many people, especially if you use iPad for a monitor. I wish stage manager wasn't so in your face. If the dock would just disappear along with the manager tabs, that would help. You could always swipe right and up to have them back in the screen.
I would have loved if we could have a watch dedicated app in iPad OS aswell as the phone. I wouldn't mind also having UI changes too with iOs 17 aswell
1:56 That wallpaper is actually from the first generation iPad from back in 2010. It was the default wallpaper first demoed when the iPad was announced. It's kinda like the clownfish wallpaper added to the iPhone with the new lock screen in iOS 16, it was the default wallpaper first demoed when the iPhone was announced in 2007.
3rd party camera is a great feature for those who wanted or use the center stage type of feel for looking at the top instead off to the left or whatever. Until apple can figure out if the camera will be moved to the side. Temporary fix or possibly permanent option fix. If it’s that important to you.
thanks for the update! Apple is in the right direction, each update makes competitors life harder! great to see they are hearing users and implementing useful changes! Next update i'm waiting is the release of an iphone with native pencil suport, like Samsung Note phones, that's the only feature that prevent me to make the change from android to ios! congratulations for the apple team!
My only issue with the Lock Screen is if I’m in photos and wanna add to wallpaper, i have to create a new lock screen. I just want it added to my current set up. I hope this update has scaled better on the iPad mini. Like you said i wish they used the screen size more. Using a third party camera might help for those that complained about the ipad camera on the size when using facetime
When he said something about no home screen app grid customisability I found out that To get a "custom" grid layout get a solid colour background, get widgetmaster and create a blank widget with no border and the same colour as your background, edit your home screen and drag it where you would like an empty spot
They're always holding back on iPad. It usually plays catch up with iOS. They can really turn this into a touch screen Macbook but then sales for Macbooks will decline.
Hello, Aaron. I love your videos, but I would like to see some videos showing your face in the center when you're talking and holding the iPhone while having a screen recording of it on the left. Who else would like to see this?
I just picked up a new iPad Pro 12.9 with 1 TB. I’m coming from the ORIGINAL iPad so I think I was due for an upgrade. I can see why you love this device. Anyway running iOS 17 on it so this video was very helpful! Thanks!
I think they could have done more. I like the improvements to stage manager, enhanced pdf document management and being able to add a third-party camera. The recent addition of Logic Pro for iPad was also excellent. The widget stuff looks nice, but I am not sure if it will improve my workflow. I would a have traded that for an iPhone style calculator app, the ability to eject, format and repair external SSD / memory cards and Parallels Desktop for iPad OS. An M series iPad Pro is still not a computer, but a crippled oversized iPhone. OK, I currently place my 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro into developer mode so I can sideload apps such as UTM and Dolphin, and compile jitterbug, so I don't need to tether to a second Apple device to run such apps, but why does Apple have to continue to be so perverse?
I love the background features thry brought from the iOS. I like to go back to ones i've had before and it's always a bit of a pain to find the photo i want, but now it's easier and i can personalise them too.
Finally gave in and installed the Developer beta. It’s running fine. Definitely not putting Betas’s on any other devices however. So far it’s fine on my iPad Pro.
im actually so excited for ipad os 17. the stage manager update is so useful to me because im a student so its very useful and also they finally added a pdf app which is exciting to me because i work with them a lot!
That looks awesome! I am ready for September to get here! When do you think Apple will stop supporting the iPad Pro from 2018? This is the one that introduced Face ID to the iPad lineup. I’ve had mine since March 2019. Although it is running great, I like to prepare for when it will lose software support.
Good vid showing all the changes. But I think it's kind of underwhelming and is basically iOS 16 making it onto the iPad with the name iPadOS 17. External camera support is cool tho although Im not sure it's needed with the camera the iPad already has. PDF interactivity support is also cool. But again, other than that it's pretty underwhelming.
Thanks for the info, i have just learned how to customise my lock and home screen, its now bright orange with bold white writing and i managed to put my fitness steps widget and weather widget on the lock screen do i can be more productive when i pick up my phone.
Finally we'll get our smaller font back for the clock. I hate that new barely thicker font for the clock. I'll watch the iOS video after this and hope for the same there.
Hey Arron. I can rearrange Home Screen widgets at my end to allow blank spaces all over a blank screen. For example a medium widget top left and then a medium widget top right with absolutely nothing in between. Just wondering why you didn’t show this ?
What is your favorite feature of iPadOS 17? Thanks for watching, it is always appreciated.
Is it free yes or no
Are the lock screen widgets only available in landscape mode?
There is a chance UI will change over time pre GM.
External camera support, look it is small but i wanted to use my ipad as a monitor so now i can by using my capture card that acts as a camera
The landscape wallpaper is the original wallpaper from the first gen iPad❤

I agree. I found myself using my iPad a lot more now that this beta is out and I'm very happy about it.
IPadOS 17 è una nuova versione.
will logitech c902 with usb-A can be used in ipados 17, off course with usb-A to usb-c converter? I hope it is possible.
While the update is small and adding refinements, I like it, especially with an updated Stage Manager and interactive Widgets.
imagine introducing interactive widgets for the first time in 2023... Dude.
I love the way they design their wallpapers, and finally, custom lock screens, with no calculator still, but interactable widgets and more? Awesome!

I could finally match the wallpaper on my iPhone and iPad. Big fan of the astronomy wallpapers.
Stage Manager has never worked so well! Love iPadOS 17… outstanding!
Personally I can't wait for iPadOS 17 - I think it will a big step forward in the progression of iPad. Great preview!

In iOS17 for iPad you can place any widget anywhere you want in the Home Screen just as freely as the new stage manager window placements.

The new Lock Screen and wallpapers should’ve came with iPadOS 16 alongside IOS 16 but I’m glad they are bringing it over, although a year late
Nice that they adds wallpaper from 1st iPad
I’m more excited for iPadOS 17 than iOS 17. I have the M1 Air and will be downloading the public beta when it comes available.
Omg sameeee I have the exact same iPad!
I love the uniformity of the software throughout the apple ecosystem. 😁
Best iPadOS17 video! I much prefer this to-the-point style over the half hour plus videos 👌
Thanks for letting me know the features maybe film a macOS 14 beta 1 video
that landscape wall paper is the original first gen ipad wallpaper! it’s so nostalgic
I got my iPad two days ago. Seeing all these makes me even more excited to use it. It’s my first iPad too.
I wish the new journal app was on iPadOS and would let you journal with the Apple Pencil. I prefer writing over typing when it comes to journaling.
FINALLY I was waiting so long for iPad to have Lock Screen customization!

I personally expect Apple brings the iPhone continuity camera like the macOS has. But, the external camera support is good.
Thank you so much for this video. It’s annoying how everybody is only talking about iOS and not iPad os
sad, that Pro 9.7 dropped….not in love with bold clock on lock screen

They need a turn off button for customise Lock Screen in setting it sometimes gets annoying from many many misclicks
Reduce White Point should have a shortcut together with Night Shift, Dark Mode and True Tone. That's a much needed short cut.
