Your acts of kindness from giving that gentleman a ride to buying dog food to purchasing a painting-all for a stranger is commendable. A great example for all of us. Eric, I love your dry sense of humor and Tom welcome aboard. You will have a lot to offer. Ed is such an example to all of us. And, Matt thank you for your kindness toward Ed. What a joy to see this come full circle. From the day the golden nugget was rescued to it's restored return. I roared the first time watching Erik behind the wheel of the golden nugget as it was dragged to freedom. Erik deserves to have his name emblazoned somewhere on it. In fact everyone involved who had a part in its rescue and restoration should autograph this gem!

The culture now is all about me myself and I...and acting as if they are owed everything they want by life and everyone else and it's pathetic... the energy and acts of Matt and his crew are great role models for society. Mindful that no one is perfect but this crew is top notch

Tunnels are scary stuff. I have grown up mining around Laporte area in California. Hydraulic pits and tunnels. Tunnels are scary stuff I been in 2 working tunnels and boy it's dark when you turn the lights out. The tunnels in Laporte are hand picked through about 400ft of lava cap then you hit what's called the blue layer of the ancient gravels. This blue layer runs through the mountains and carries the most gold from the old river bed. The clay and dirt with gravels has a nice blue color. That layer is loaded. Takes allot to get to it which is why they hydraulic mined the surface gravels away to get at that layer. It's like concrete. But gold is Chucky rough and amazing. I have not been to our claim for a few years. Taking a break. But with gold up it might be time to fire up the trommel and get some gold. Great show fellas but be careful going in the tunnels. The hard rock roof can cave in just as easy as the gravel. Your voice can trigger it.

This is my hometown!! Can't believe you were in my town and I had no clue in all these video's!! Dang, bummer I didn't run into you guys would have loved to meet you guys and see the golden nugget. This would have been amazing. If he hasn't been there since the 60's a lot has probably changed. Are river's get pretty big and knock and move a lot of land, so it could look 100x different. In town there is a historic place that might help with some leads or maps. Plus a lot of other places you can get info from as this county is huge for gold since the 1800's. 4 wheeling is pretty big also!

I think that working as a member of Matt's crew would be a blast! If I were younger, I would seriously consider paying them a visit to see if I could contribute to their cause......... The Sierras definitely are not for the faint of heart. A lot of those old timers earned every bit of gold they found in that rugged, unforgiving terrain. I hope the mine you found turns out to be what Ed was looking for. Love your channel. Keep up the good work..

That's our home town! My wife and I grew up in the Nevada City/Grass Valley area....and I used to go to SPD with my mom for grocery shopping, Plus...my wife's brother is gold miner, and I mean a REAL gold miner (not just panning for gold). That's how he has made his living. We know the area around Ed's old mine well. It's too bad you didn't have time to visit the Empire Gold Mine. My wife worked there as a tour guide while in high school. (We now live in Maine).
Here's a little history of the Empire Mine (taken from their website): "Empire Mine State Historic Park is the site of one of the oldest, deepest, and richest gold mines in California. The park is in Grass Valley at 10791 East Empire Street. In operation for more than 100 years, the mine extracted 5.8 million ounces of gold before it closed in 1956. The park contains many of the mine’s buildings, the owner’s home and restored gardens, as well as the entrance to 367 miles of abandoned and flooded mine shafts."
Trivia: SPD is first letter of the last names of the the three original owners: Bert See, Lawrence Painter and Joe Dilley.
Love what you guys do Matt and Gang.

One of the nice things about RUclips is that I can be an "arm chair" traveler, this time to a gold mine. Neat video. You sometimes use drones for making scenery shots in the videos. Could a drone have been used to search for the mine? To paraphrase the Yellow pages, "Let your drone do the walking!".
