Traded in our 16 Crv for a 2021 Ex-l last week. Wonderful car to drive and tremendous amount of space. Not a flashy interior, but I think it is handsome and intuitive to use. I don't mind the button shifter at all. Very competent power and relatively efficient on the highway. Great car.
you'll be surprised how it does on a 50 degrees hill. It does pretty good for a crossover compared to other crossovers on the market. These guys didn't even take the passport to the hills for test and spent more time mocking the design of the car. What they don't know is that the passport is assembled in Alabama USA, this car beats the Ford bronco with the busted turbos.
I found it interesting that Zack kept mentioning that the off road improvements were merely cosmetic. While that is true, it is important to note that the passport has an excellent AWD system for both on road and light off road. The AWD system is one of the best attributes of the passport and likely much more capable than even many off road focused systems of the competition except the most extreme ones. I believe the new rugged looks match the capability of the vehicle. In the interest of full disclosure, I own a 2020 passport. I am happy to discuss the faults of the passport but off road capability is not one of them. If you need more off road capability, buy a wrangler rubicon. @@robwinemiller9712 Good question. I love my passport more and more the longer I own it, but it is by no means perfect. I drive a 2020 EX-L. I use the eco button and it likely helps a little but I have not measured it so I can’t say for sure. Either way, real world world fuel economy is not good. The fuel tank is also relatively small so the range is fine but not great. I usually fill up around 500KM in town or 600KM on the highway. A Highlander Hybrid may be a better choice if economy is important. While I love the function of the interior, it certainly isn’t luxurious. I can’t think of much else I’m not happy with from a daily drive perspective. I would be happy to answer any questions you come up with.

I just bought the Passport Trailsport and I love it. One of the best vehicles that I have ever owned. I love the simplicity and I've owned some really fancy cars.
Honda and Toyota will never be as blingy or have all-new designs every 2 yrs like Hyundai, but if long-term reliablity and resale value is important to you - go for the boring instead of the bling.
For a refresh, would have liked to see more inspiration on the interior from the 2022 civic and 2023 hrv. If the CRV grows in size for 2023 and showcases modern tech and safety, where does the passport fit into Honda’s lineup?
I have a friend that bought one of these. I thought it looked a little outdated on the inside as well. The push buttons are new of course but the aesthetics just seemed outdated.
There is nothing about this vehicle that I love. But in Honda’s defence, there is nothing about this vehicle that I hate. I literally, do not even notice these on the road. It doesn’t really leave any sort of impression. Maybe that is what Honda was going for. It perhaps, is the perfect… ‘incognito’ vehicle. Which is quite odd, because I do notice every Honda,….‘love it or hate it’ Ridgeline. Thanks for the video.
If you're shopping this car keep in mind, there really isn't a big difference in price in America between the EX-L and Trailsport (TS) because most EX-Ls are delivered with AWD and roof rails. This puts the price of the EX-L at or slightly below the TS. If you care about navigation, fog lights, and floor mats the TS might be the better deal. Plus, the 18in wheels feel more comfortable on the road IMO in comparison to the 20in wheels on the EX-L and Elite versions of this vehicle.
Also if you prefer gloss black to chrome on the front of your vehicle, you may want to choose the Trailsport. Then again if you prefer chrome then choose the EX-L. The rims on the TS look much better IMHO.
i got a 2019 passport sport brand new for 29K$ USD, no power seats, no leather, no moonroof. i enjoy the v6, keyless go, no chrome accents. it's been 3 years over 20K miles and it is a great vehicle for me.
I could care less about a 3rd row seat....most of them are crap anyway! I love the cargo room that this thing has. Plus it comes with a reliable V6 and no turbo chargers. That my friends is called reliability! I'll take boring any day! For the person who bought the Hyundai...good luck you're going to need it😂😂
I own a 2015 Lincoln MKC 2.0 AWD and while i LUV my vehicle and it's been great in the snow. I want something a bit more "rugged looking" for my next vehicle. I think this Trailsport will fit the bill VERY nicely. However, Honda needs to do some changes. The first being downgrading the 20in tires on the EX-L and Elite trims to the Trailsport's 18in tires. I mean lets face facts folks you simply CANNOT off road in 20in wheels. And these Passports are ALL THE SAME no matter the trim. As they ALL share the exact same I-VTM4 AWD systems. Now i hear Honda is going to make further changes to make the Trailsport truly "off road worthy". Let's hope they follow through on that. The next thing i would do is offer the grey leather trim in the Trailsport. I think with the orange contrast stitching & badging it would look gorgeous with the sonic gray pearl exterior color. Having only one color and that being black to choose from is rather dull and boring. And you'd be surprised how the grey leather would spruce up that Trailsport interior VERY quickly. It's one of the main reasons why i am waiting to purchase one. Because currently you can only get the grey leather trim on the EX-L and Elite trims. In either a dark blue, white, or silver exterior color. C'mon Honda it isn't that difficult to add the grey leather to the Trailsport trim. Also, please body color paint the exterior mirrors on the Trailsport. The black just sucks...!!! And lastly give us the option of two different colored roof rail colors. The current black and also a silver. Everyone may not agree with me on these changes. But i think the majority of folks would agree the black interior on the Trailsport needs the gray color option. And the 20in wheel size on the EX-L & Elite trims needs to go. If nothing else but these two changes get done for future models. I'll be a VERY happy camper.
The more I look at it, the better it looks. I like the bigger exhaust outlets. Just dump the ZF and I’m sold. Be wild if they pumped up the six to 300 horse add a few extra pounds of torque to better separate it from the Pilot. Possibly drop in the A spec Acura motor. Talk about a hot rod.
I have a family of three. This is the perfect size for me. Honda would need to update this with a some more amenities, like a 8 way power passenger seat. That 4 way power seat is so circa 2000. Also some real “TrailSport” hardware is necessary for a Trailsport trim.
The "Auto Idle Stop" system on our 2019 is very annoying. When it engages, you'd think the engine fell out, the dealer says this is normal... only 12,000 miles. Now we turn it off but wish it didn't have this as standard equipment. I'd like to drive a newer model to see if there's any improvement.
Hello how are you doing guys , I just bought a passport trail sport it is time for an oil change my question is do I have to take it to the dealer or my mecanic can do it without affecting the guarantee that the car has . Thanks in advance.
I really agree with your comment about Honda’s bad decision about NOT getting height adjustment on the passenger’s seat! I have a 2014 Pilot Touring, and it’s cursed w/the the same problem of no height adjustment for passenger. We’d like to get a new Odyssey, but I don’t know if we’ll get one if they don’t address that height adjustment issue. My other heartburn is how they require you to buy the crazy expensive “Elite” model to get ventilated leather seats. I couldn’t care less about having a rear entertainment system, but I’d pay some reasonable amount to get a single item upgrade for ventilated seats.
As a committed Honda lover on my 6th, I'm concerned more about quality and reliability not tech and I'm not interested in an inconvenient EV which takes up time charging instead of fill and go.
Just purchased a 2023. Love it, except .... has anyone else had an issue with the wireless charger for your iPhone? Dealer said (after the purchase) that it was a known issue and wasn't sure Honda could do anything about it? Surely, I'm not the only Honda / Apple consumer, or is this a rare combination. Thanks for any help, or any suggestions for connectivity (I have attempted three different phones, with and without case, orientated in various ways, but keeps turning on for 2-5 seconds then failing). Thanks.
We have a Passport, bought it new in 2019. Touring trim. Good: v6 engine is great, transmission and handing are great. Looks good outside. Suuuper roomy! Takes regular gasoline. Bad: not pretty inside, IMO. Very bumpy ride. Wish it had a pano moonroof, at least on touring and elite trims. Wheels and tires too small for this car.
Front end = great 👍🏿 Back end = minivan 👎🏿 I agree the Element was awesome. It begged to be turned into an electric vehicle by virtue of it's name. I've been praying they bring it back.
All this talk about the Passport being dated is BS. It's a great car and the interior materials are nice. Roomy with a nice ride and great reliability. There's a reason Honda has always been a leader. They don't listen to the fools making comments here.
I just bought one, and I love it! Traded my Tundra platinum as I no longer needed a truck bed. Had a little bit of an adjustment with less soft touch and the with the push button shifter, but mostly wanted performance and reliability. Really pleased with this purchase. Acura and Lexus have beautiful vehicles in this space, but the price is a lot higher.
I'm glad you addressed the model refresh issue compared to the Hyundai Group. Honda needs to step up. That said, I'm afraid the V6 could be refreshed-out on the next Passport/Pilot, like with the RDX, so I kinda want to grab one before they do! Thanks for the great videos!
I like the idea of a two-row mid-size. But really, this Trailsport trim is nothing but badges and orange stitches. Even the tires look beefier on the side, but…the thread is not an off-road one by any means. Meh… But! That engine is very good and the transmission is buttery smooth. Do you need the Trailsport trim? Nah. But the main idea of this vehicle is pretty good.
Great Review as always, Zack and Andrea, I agree with you that the button shifter is totally pointless and it takes up the same amount of space. I will never consider a Honda/Acura unless they go back to traditional shifters or rotary type shifters at least.
Bigger screens? When will we get cars that we can just talk to and get basics like, turn on the seat heater, turn on the defrost, turn up the fan speed and AC. You know some car basics to keep eyes looking forward so that you are not fiddling with touch screens??? Will we ever get this?
I have stopped Honda on several occasions. My experience is that they won't negotiate on price. Toyota seems more accommodating. Of course none of the dealers are discounting much I suspect.
Back before the chip shortage Honda was notorious for not discounting vehicles through incentives or rebates. About the best one could do is negotiate to invoice price. Even paying for a Honda at invoice, the dealer gets a 2% holdback. Honda dealers were making decent money. Not sure about today though.
Awesome vehicle! I have a friend who happens to be mechanic has A Honda Passport, is taller than any vehicles I ever be on it. The Exterior don’t looks big but taller and the exterior is huge! Great Video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻 Oh and like Zack said 🥱🥱😆😆
I’ve owned 2 Pilots over the years (the old rounded and the boxy). They are reliable and practical but still looks sooo boring. Why can’t Honda step up design??? I mean Kia has already redesigned Telluride and it’s only been 3 years since it’s debut!
Thanks for the great review. I love Honda. In fact, I currently own 2 Civics. But in this competitive segment, I will probably go with Venza and Santa Fe. That ZF 9AT and HondaLink UI have suffered from some quality issues.
@@andreaspencer9813 ZF 9AT have too many scary histories. I wish Honda will give it 10AT like Odyssey does In next redesign. And a hybrid option to compete with Venza and Santa Fe too.

Zach.. the passport infotainment screen has a seek and also a scan option for the radio. Is there really a need for a tunning knob? I mean come on. 🤷♀️
I think Honda and Toyota owners, are so loyal, and the companies sell soooo many vehicles per year, that they care a little less about updating and all - new vehicles....
I just seen the 2023 model and they didn't even change the interior to a 2023 standard. Let's hope the 2024 version the interior will be upgraded Like the CRV and the Pilot. I guess i will have to wait till 2024..
I'm glad to see vehicles without a tunning knob. I don't think it's all that necessary. The only time you would use one is for the initial radio station set up, then once the preset buttons are set, the knob just sits there. And if you need to find a radio station when out of town, it's no big deal to search for one with a push of a button instead.
Awesome review as always! I think the proportions of the Pilot look better than this Passport. From the rear, all I can see is a past generation Ford Edge.

And the 20in wheel size on the EX-L & Elite trims needs to go. If nothing else but these two changes get done for future models. I'll be a VERY happy camper.
Excellent review. New subscriber. Just discovered this channel. Love the banter and rants. Also the loads of information. Love you guys!
Welcome aboard!
"orange sprinkle" - love it!
Was the road and wind noise higher than the competition since the TrailSport doesn’t have acoustic side windows like in the Elite?
Can you get the roof rack on the base model? That is what I want.
I disagree about the panoramic sunroof those are very expensive to repair if they break and its one more thing to go wrong
Exactly! Some new 23 Pilot roofs are leaking. Drains are insufficient. Huge mistake Honda made.
Couldn't believe Zack was yawning Andrea 😴 lots of blue attire both. Smart looking utility car, a new one on me most definitely.
Hi guys,
Unfortunately, this looks like it would be very popular ten years ago
Great review!!
If you want the latest and greatest, the passport is not for you. If you like old school and simplicity, the passport is perfect.
I just bought a Passport Trailsport and love it! Best SUV ever!
I’ve always wanted an Element. I saw a Passport the other day and was reminded of the Element also.
Interesting because I recently purchased the PP though I hated the Element (and still do). I don't see any resemblance.
Dude- doesn’t look anything like an element.
And it’s a great looking truck.
Nope, none whatsoever.
Man, if Honda was going for uninspiring and lackluster, then they really knocked it out of the park!
Thanks.
Manzire, bro, manzire, bro. Love the Seinfeld reference
Guess your forgetting the extra 1 inch in higher suspension? And I believe the departure angle is better
What is the best commuter car? For a commuting of 35 miles one way?
I noticed the exterior front turn signal is where a fog light should be. Seems to low to be fully effective.
Front end = great 👍🏿
Back end = minivan 👎🏿
I agree the Element was awesome. It begged to be turned into an electric vehicle by virtue of it's name.
I've been praying they bring it back.
@Joal. I recently purchased the PP Trailsport and love it, but I agree with your description. It is exactly what I thought when I first saw it.
Mazda's cx5s too, nice front and minivan back! It's a shame
I’ve never seen the tailpipes that come on the Passport on a minivan. The pilot looks more like a minivan
Yeay! Couple review..
Thank you!
All this talk about the Passport being dated is BS. It's a great car and the interior materials are nice. Roomy with a nice ride and great reliability. There's a reason Honda has always been a leader. They don't listen to the fools making comments here.
Exactly.
Love the Seinfeld references.
Not a fan of that grill, same w the new hrv. Glad it's still got a J spec engine. Long live the element and fit. U guys r great in reviews.
Thank you so much, happy you are enjoying them. Happy Easter!
I’ve always liked Hondas. However, the company needs to make the ride quieter and the seats more comfortable.
I like the idea of a two-row mid-size. But really, this Trailsport trim is nothing but badges and orange stitches. Even the tires look beefier on the side, but…the thread is not an off-road one by any means. Meh…
But! That engine is very good and the transmission is buttery smooth. Do you need the Trailsport trim? Nah. But the main idea of this vehicle is pretty good.
I love honda passport. I want to save my money to get a passport elite used one
I loved the Honda Element!!
What's the difference between mud and sand? 😅
( my '19 volkswagen tiguan has snow or off - road...)
Hello their --is their any video about ford Everest 2022...thanks for nice video
When can see the video for new Kia sportage 2023
Next Saturday.
Love the review guys. Well done! Appreciate the "man-zeer" Seinfeld Show reference! :)
Haha....always great quotes from Seinfeld. Glad you enjoyed the review too, Happy Easter
@@andreaspencer9813 Thanks Andrea. Happy Easter to you and your family as well! Hope you can put your feet up and relax. :)
@@dennisjones8906 Thank you!
Hyundai SantaFe and Palisade also have push button shifter. I don't see how Hyundai's is that different than Honda's.
I always wonder what you guys haul in that orange cooler. Just about every review shows that cooler.🙂
Cervezas, amigo. Fill it up at the LCBO and time to make a video.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
Is honda going to bring out a 2024 passport?
Great Review as always, Zack and Andrea, I agree with you that the button shifter is totally pointless and it takes up the same amount of space. I will never consider a Honda/Acura unless they go back to traditional shifters or rotary type shifters at least.
Andrea, have you heard of the band Zed Zed Top?
Bigger screens? When will we get cars that we can just talk to and get basics like, turn on the seat heater, turn on the defrost, turn up the fan speed and AC. You know some car basics to keep eyes looking forward so that you are not fiddling with touch screens??? Will we ever get this?
Totally agree... well said. 👏
I love The Seinfeld references LOL
👍🏻👍🏻 Oh and like Zack said 🥱🥱😆😆
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. Happy Easter!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are an very welcome Andrea and happy Easter to you too. I hope you will find some Easter chocolate. 🐇☕️☕️
@@10OF9OFBORG Me too, love chocolate!!
Im a mechanic-I also own one.
I’ve owned 2 Pilots over the years (the old rounded and the boxy). They are reliable and practical but still looks sooo boring. Why can’t Honda step up design??? I mean Kia has already redesigned Telluride and it’s only been 3 years since it’s debut!
I agree completely… very practical, reliable vehicles but real snoozers 🙁
I take it the Telluride or a brand other than Honda will be your next vehicle.
Why not compare the Mazda CX-50 Turbo or the Meridian Edition. It’s so much nicer and higher end fit and finish.
Like the reliability of the Hondas don't like the plastic interiors for the money.
What feels more roomy? Pilot or passport?
Hope they redesign but leave the v6 as an option. Love to see it like the cx-50 or more of a wagon form.
Thanks for the great review. I love Honda. In fact, I currently own 2 Civics. But in this competitive segment, I will probably go with Venza and Santa Fe. That ZF 9AT and HondaLink UI have suffered from some quality issues.
Thanks for watching, so glad you liked it. We have a 2017 Civic and it's been great, but yes, Honda and Acura have had some quality issues.
@@andreaspencer9813 ZF 9AT have too many scary histories. I wish Honda will give it 10AT like Odyssey does In next redesign. And a hybrid option to compete with Venza and Santa Fe too.
@@A3A4Tom what are your thoughts of the possibility that Honda would use the same ZF-9AT version as what Nissan Pathfinder/QX60 have?
@@Blank00 I still have serious doubt about its reliability. I got friends who got screwed up badly with previous TLX and current Pilot 's ZF 9AT. Anything with that application won't be on my shopping list.
Andrea rockin' a Canadian Tuxedo
Honda should bring this to Europe with the new V6 3.0-Turbo engine and lower it 1"~1.5" 😁
What the heck - this has a touchscreen and the RDX is still saddled with the track pad, ugh!
Jon would have a thing to say about it’s off road abilities
You should review the 2023 honda pilot!! I challenge you to find something wrong with it haha. incredible!
Many are experiencing pano roofs leaking. Lots of water are being found in interiors. Defective design in channel ports for water drains.
Y’all get heated rear seats in the trailsport? I don’t have that. I live in the desert though. No heated wheel either. I love mine though…. Ugliness and all.
Zach.. the passport infotainment screen has a seek and also a scan option for the radio. Is there really a need for a tunning knob? I mean come on. 🤷♀️
Yes, a knob is better.
@@Motormouth... 🤦♀️
My complaint is the missing auto-hold brakes, button for parking, instead of a pedal on the left and the pano sunroof. For this price....come on Honda
Since they launched the Passport, I think I have seen only one here in YYC lol
Wow, a spare tire!
Awesome review as always! I think the proportions of the Pilot look better than this Passport. From the rear, all I can see is a past generation Ford Edge.
