Schweizer S300 (MCPX BL2 rebuild) Windy Day Maiden

- I finally got some field access to try out the BL2 I got cheap and rebuilt. I kept the Schweizer S300 canopy on it and added a custom-made boom brace as the real S300 has.
It was very windy and the heli was getting tossed around. My slope soaring skills kicked in and I found myself flying a figure-8 pattern so that I was always turning into the wind. I eventually switched to 3D mode so that the motor was producing 100% all of the time. The higher main rotor RPM made the controls more sensitive but gave me extra power to deal with the headwind.
After awhile I finally decided "enough is enough... it flies just fine" and landed it before I suffered a wind-induced crash. I'll go again on a calmer day. The bird felt solid and fast!
Happy flying!
Good job 👍, did well in that wind .
I could certainly hear the wind in the Mic. Amazing how well that tiny Heli could push against that wind. Well done ;-) See you in the Air!
The power of the BL and BL2 is wonderful. The outrunner tail and bigger rotor of the BL2 help it maintain heading a bit better than the first MCPX BL.
Happy flying!
@@Doggeslife It certainly has the power! Awesome!
That's a cool little machine!!!! Like # 6!!!
Amazing power for the size. I had no problem flying upwind, especially in 3D 100% power mode. In sport mode you are closer to 80% - 90%.
Happy flying.
Congratulations on handling that wind, nice looking model.
Thanks. The white Microheli shell does look sweet. They also come in blue or green. Peeling the decals off the white plastic tail fin and using all-while main blades added to the look.
Happy flying.
@@DoggeslifeThanks for suggesting Micro heli. I'm looking for a scale fuselage for my 200srx I,'ll try them
@@Doggeslife BTW how much does that canopy weigh? Can't find the info on the Microheli site.
You're a braver man than I. Way too windy to fly a micro heli in that wind for me....😉
Braver, or more foolhardy? 😁
Happy flying!
Way too much wind for me. I was half expecting a fly-away or a crash on landing. Nice job.
The BL2 did better in the wind than I expected. Felt great!
Happy flying!
