I had a xsara picasso back in 2007. Great family car. Very reliable especially for long distances, the seats are so comfortable. Now driving a C4 Picasso 2009 model. Yes looks better and more gadgets. But the Xsara drove more comfortable. Especially driving on the German Autobahn 😂
Nah this car is preety cheap and reliable. I have it 17 years and the only thing I had to buy was a new fan for AC. All filters and oils are preety cheap. Same as suspension parts.

Hello. I had 2006 55 plate 1.6 hdi 110 bhp Exclusive. I had a few problems with it, mainly because of a large injector leak which allowed diesel to run down the engine block and perish many rubber hoses underneath the engine. I also had a faulty alternator that intermittently failed to recharge the battery, even when the car was running at motorway speeds, resulting in me having to call roadside rescue out several times. The great thing about Citroens though, is how cheap the parts are. I got a working, used, alternator for only £40 from eBay. A new battery was only £80 from my local autoparts store, with a three year warranty. In the end though, the injector leak, and the fact that it had been botched with tar-like plastic so that it only came out after a few weeks of driving and owning the car meant that it was too late for the rubber hoses and shields that had been eaten away by the diesel, and it wasn't economical to replace them all in the end though. If it weren't for those two issues though, it was a great car. Very economical - 58.8 mpg average/62 mpg on a good run/80+mpg at motorway speeds (76 mph with cruise on)/55.4 mpg is the worst I ever saw, after days of town/city driving. It is a very comfortable and easy car to drive, if not a bit soft and wallowy for spirited driving, it does grip pretty well though considering the tyres aren't that wide (185mm on each corner), apart from for in the wet where understeer and tyre-spin are quite-terribly controlled by an inadequate ESP traction control system that is only standard on the 110 bhp 1.6 HDi (this model is also the only one to have standard fit rear disc brakes). The lack of panoramic sunroof that is standard on the pre-facelift Exclusive Xsara Picasso is a sad loss, as is the loss (after 2005) of the famously-hardy and reliable 2.0 HDi engine, which though only producing a measly 90 bhp, is the same diesel unit from the Peugeot 406 - an engine and car renowned for their reliability and time-testedness as high-mileage taxis in African cities. The 1.6 HDi is a good and punchy engine once up to speed, and can easily keep up with much larger engines in terms of mid-range pull, though I would suggest the 2.0 diesel for a torquier experience from idle - though admittedly slightly less frugal. The lack of low-down torque in the 1.6 is noticeable particularly when accelerating quickly out of side roads (where matters are made worse as traction is easily lost) or racing off the line from traffic lights. The biggest issue is the strange ratio of first gear, which is way too low to be usable unless you've got a full car, or never exceed 15 mph before shifting to second. The speakers (like in every Citroen I've owned actually) are very bad when pushed past 60% of their volume, easily made to crackle and lose any fidelity. There is no bass there to speak of either. Overall though, it is a very good car. Very spacious (I have a Volvo S80 now, which is almost five metres long, and has less rear legroom than the Picasso), very adaptable (all three rear seats move independently, and come out - a bonus for camping trips with friends), and very very good on fuel (better than my friend's 2013 Seat Leon 1.6 TDI DSG, despite the years and technological differences). A good car, just make sure you check the service for enough activity, and MOT history for reports of leaks. Tyres are very affordable, especially when bought part-worn (£25 each for Michellins). Hope this helps. Good luck.
@@zarbonida The PSA Group (back then Peugeot, Citroen) and also Ford used these 1.6 HDi/TDCi engines over a long time. My mum drove a 2006 Ford Focus Turnier (Stationwagon) with the 90hp version other than a DPF issue that we fixed by driving on the highway since she usally drives less than 10 min. to the market or basically anywhere, it's was a good and for the time compared to other cars very quiet diesel. Sure 90hp in a compact MPV like the Xsara Picasso isn't much but it will probably get you where you wanna go. Make sure if you let someone service your car to tighten the fuel injectors because the easily leak over time if you don't do that. Other than that check if the turbo is still in good shape and to never extened your service. then you should have a good functioning diesel.
