  • The Fry Chronicles Episodes 5 of 5 • Stephen Fry - The Fry ...
BBC Radio 4 - Book of the Week (Aug 2017)
This is the intriguing, hilarious and utterly compelling story of how Stephen Fry arrived at Cambridge on probation: a convicted fraudster and thief, an addict, liar, fantasist and failed suicide, convinced that at any moment he would be found out and flung away.
Instead, university life offered him love, romance and the chance to stand on stage and entertain. He began his iconic relationship with Hugh Laurie, befriended Emma Thompson among a host of household names, and emerged as one of the most promising comic talents in the country.
After leaving Cambridge Stephen began to make his presence felt as he took his first tentative steps in the world of television, journalism, radio, theatre and film. Shameful tales of sugar, shag and champagne jostle with insights into credit cards, classic cars and conspicuous consumption, Blackadder, Broadway and the BBC.
For all its trademark wit and verbal brilliance, The Fry Chronicles is a book that is not afraid to confront the aching chasm that separates public image from private feeling.
Stephen Fry has a curious encounter with Stephen Sondheim and becomes the literary critic of Tatler.
Stephen Fry reveals how a call out of the blue led to him he becoming a poster boy for, of all things, celibacy.
Stephen Fry talks about his early love of radio and his first forays into broadcasting on Radio 4.
    Producer: David Roper
A Heavy Entertainment production for BBC Radio 4.

It may be a person needs to be British in order to fully appreciate this wonderfully funny piece. Luckily, I happen to be a Brit and therefore say "Utterly brilliant!" Thank you Mr. Fry!

Stephen Fry has a very pleasant voice. He could likely read the menu chalked on the blackboard outside my local pub and hold my attention. Thank you Stephen. I loved reading Moab is My Washpot and learned quite a bit about life.

Like P. G. Wodehouse, a good deal of Stephen Fry’s delightful appeal comes from his clever literary style. A virtuoso of the English language. Best of luck, mate 👍

Fry is so brilliant & so tragic. Sorry he can't be happy & has to believe everyone is miserable just to try to feel somehow normal. Tragic, in one who gives so much pleasure to others, that he can't find peace. If only he had the gift of self-forgetfulness. Live for others & the misery of self-focus disappears & one finds true peace.

@@iseeolly9959 That a very perfect description of Sir Stephen Fry, but I think Mr.Fry should avoid politics, the people of the world who love humour, honesty, humility, modesty shall loose in politics, a person with all these sterling qualities without doubt should not enter politics, politic is such a dangerous field that the natural ability of a entity to convey your honesty is just obscured.
