- The most popular image associated with kata is that of a karate practitioner performing a series of punches and kicks in the air. The kata are executed as a specified series of approximately 20 to 70 moves, generally with stepping and turning, while attempting to maintain perfect form. There are perhaps 100 kata across the various forms of karate, each with many minor variations. The number of moves in a kata may be referred to in the name of the kata, eg. Gojushiho, which means "54 steps." The number of moves may also have links with Buddhist spirituality. The number 108 is significant in Buddhism, and kata with 54, 36, or 27 moves (divisors of 108) are common. The practitioner is generally counselled to visualize the enemy attacks, and his or her responses, as actually occurring, and karateka are often told to "read" a kata, to explain the imagined events.
In teaching the open handed kata, most styles of Karate start with a series of three, or sometimes two, very simple kata called blocking forms before advancing to five basic kata named Pinan in some systems and Heian in others. By working through this series (in order: Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan (except in Wado Ryu Karate, where Shodan and Nidan are reversed)) the practitioner learns all the basic stances and techniques before moving on to more advanced kata. Traditionally, kata are taught in stages. Previously learned kata are returned to in order to show more advanced techniques or ways of doing things, as beginners do not have the same knowledge and experience that practitioners further up the ranks have. It is not uncommon in some styles for students testing for Shodan (first rank black belt) to have to repeat every kata they have learned from the first belt, but at a "black belt" level, for example, with better technique, power, amongst others. This system is often used for the lower grades as well. The student will perform one new kata and one or two previous ones, to demonstrate how much they have progressed and how quickly they can learn new things.
either the weirdest or the coolest shotokan kata, by far
I know :/
And the hardest 😂 to me
Fr tho
They say it’s the most brutal as well. Most all the moves are either kill or seriously maimed. I mean seriously hard core form
Most advanced kata there is in Shōtōkan according to Master Funakoshi
People like him inspire me to work even harder on Karate. I wanna do Kata like him someday.
Ey bro did you learn this yet?
@@xShteff i debt if he has the same youtube account
just tried this again today after long 13 years I've been away from Karate practice and... damn.... it's hard... now, time to recover my skills, lol
Did you recover it tho?
@@karatewithelian9014 was bout to ask the same question
It's been 6 years
@@karatewithelian9014 lol, yes, I'm fine now. hahaha
@@seilaoquemvc2 are you still doing karate if so what advice do you want to give a orange belt/almost green belt student?
Damn, these videos give me immense nostalgia. I clearly remember being a green belt a few years ago and being hooked on this man's videos. Today I'm a brown belt and I stopped training a few months ago after getting upset with my sensei, and now, watching these videos again, I'm really thinking about going back to training at another dojō.
R.I.P. Sensei😪
Did he die?
yes unfortunately, the day before I wrote that comment

Great Master Kanazawa forever! Oss!
Kata Unsu hidden power
One of the most advanced times in showstyle and according to many sites and majority opinions is the most difficult time of the show
There are many complex hand techniques, one of which was very important at the time, and it was a very common time in the tournaments and championships, and most of the karate champions in the final stage chose this time and did it like Luca Validisi and many others who are active in doing this time need a very high level especially in balance, power, and chemicals.
The most amazing kata. I love your beautiful movements...
this was the first vhs tape that I learned katas from... :) #nostalgy

Are you alive 🥰
Sensei Kanazawa died in 2019. May he rest in peace, let's pray for his soul.
I like unsu but i Cant do this kata 😭😭😭 is very cool to see the jump very Nice
Do empi then
@khald lex yes but jump is hardest (but still not hard)
1:14 AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENAAAAA
almost got this, but the air-spin kick is hard to do it in a perfect landing stance.
It’s not an air spin kick? It’s just a 360 jump
Best kata hands down
@2bjjones You can of course learn the moves from RUclips. But you cannot gain more than that without an experienced instructor. I have met many instructors in my time and trained with many of the great instructors including Kanazawa Sensei. They have insights into the moves, the breathing, the application and can give you feedback on how you are performing the kata. There is a saying in shotokan - one kata, three years, that is it takes three years to master one kata. I agree.
Ainda vou aprender esse kata...
eu tbm
Sokutei mawashi-uke (Heian Godan etc. ) / mikashiki-geri (Bassai Dai etc.) is as well in 'roundhouse'-form, besides that, there are also mawashi-geri in Kata Kanku Shoo..
Nice i am also learn karate blue 1 😁 most of them are junior but learning unsu
@alexrj2 to pass from 3rd to 4th, in France there is 5 katas: Nijushi Ho, Sochin, Jiin, Unsu and Tekki Sandan. You have to do 2: 1 you choose, the other at random; and many other things, like kihon, kumite and bunkai.
learnin this next!,excited,but scared haha:L
Ahhh funtimes! This is the one im doing for a competion in october just after my 2nd dan grading!

Nice
He was The best Martial Artist
Unsu❤
Hii for you all i'm from indonesian.learning this kata
Kanazawa legand master oss
RIP kanazawa
yea, i think alot of organisations tend to keep the top instructor description unique for them...World Technical Director sounds just as good 8D
the jump could be a interpretation of a throw or something like that too.
In reality, Kagawa sensei is the world technical director. Chief instructor is always Asai sensei (they keep this title for him). :)
used to do shotokan 20 years ago, i achieved my second brown, then got distracted! this kata is familiar to me, but i cant remember which belt its for . anyone know?
the kick from the stationary ground is to the solar-plex, or the ribs? My sensei told me me of those...
i am learning it now and it's not easy it's very hard
@hotlilskaterboi you're right .it's a way of living !
yeya!! shotokan!!!
This is my favourite kata. Although I cant master the jump well.
Now?
Bro,u still alive?
Rest in peace 😭😭😭

Becouse he is death
@@marcel6609 really when did he die :0

@@marcel6609 whats his name
I've seen it, i agree that it's awesome. But i wouldn't be so sure about it resembling Kanazawas vision. My karate styles soke prefers to divide katas in to 2 categories: fight oriented and sport oriented. I think so too, and i would put Milon in "Sport oriented" and Kanazawa in "Fight oriented". Kanazawas priority probably wasn't to win tournaments, Milons was. Huge respect to both, they were the best at their thing.
it is a throw of a much bigger opponent, who is running towards you, by using his force against him
Anyone else Google "most difficult kata" and end up here ?
i am black belt and i am lerning this kata
U.M. Productions I'm green belt (6 kyu) and i know this kata
6. kyu is green belt ;) 3. kyu is first brown ;)
Anty - Herní Kanál Thats right ;) Maybe he's just doing another kind of karate? Or what your gonna say
I do Karate-Do (Shotokan) and Green belt is 6kuy ;)
Anty - Herní Kanál Me too ;) Karate-Do Shotokan JKA ;D
For me it's the better !
O mais top
@alexrj2 A lot. Going into my blackbelt test later this year, I have 14 to perform. My sensei knows many more, but he admits that he does not know all of them (he's a 5th Dan). Of course, Funakoshi O Sensei only practiced a handful--one only need to know a few to have enough to perfect for a lifetime--and many were developed after his death.
¿porque usas subpal?
This the only shotokan karate kata that has roundhouse kicks.
It's a black belt kata. I think you could do it at 3th or 4th dan exam, in JKS, but I'm not sure.
I am learning Jitte.
what is the dachi at the beggining?
das some anime level shit and I'm loving it
keren ai
in France, Unsu is for 4th.
Where did you go?
This guy must practice everyday to get all these as down as he has them. In five years I have exactly two kata down kinda sorta good.
I love You ❤
Pause at 3:04 and you will recognized this move.
hadoooookan
he does a lot of body shakes!!!!!!
He was have 10.dan in karate and 2.dan in judo
1:15 is just amazing. I'll never be able to do that lol
I am still unable to execute the spin jump ffs
What is jour dan
I go to karate in Denmark
Perfect Execution of UNSU :-)
Why you dont you record video's anymore? its 2018 now
its not him the karateka in the video is shihan hirokazu kanazawa a 10th dan black belt and one of the students of gichin funakoshi and masatoshi nakayama
@pbzkfdt11 I believe so, After Hangetsu, only that Unsu has that difficult combination of slap kick / knee and sweep as you duck. all the other standard Kata can be done with a little time and effort. Having said that if you like take a look at Kata that was introduced after the 70's by the late Sensei Tetsuhiko Asai and the late Taiji Kase, not forgetting Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa 10dan.......look for Heian Oyo, Nijuhachiho, Fushu, Kashu...
@pbzkfdt11 No, but its up there. Most of its difficulty comes from the lack of many repeating moves and of course the jumping kicks.
@nakotohs97 I dunno...Kanku sho is right up there with it.
@torro45I was sure Unsu was a 6th dan kata?
is this the most difficult kata in shotokan?
@massivesweatyninja Well, maybe... But the way to perform a Kata is not absolutely closed.. Some people includes some kind of variations in moovements, intensity, etc.. But yes, I prefer this "version"
i cant find teki nidan(sorry for mispelling)
isnt Masao Kagawa the Technical Director/Chief Instructor ? so you were close on both :D
This kata easy I just did it today and I’m only a blue senior belt
I just learned this kata to do for my black belt grading in September! :D
この男は、彼が少し間違っていた唯一のものです。
