Contrary to popular misconception, jkd is not a fighting philosophy, even though he describes it in a philosophical way it’s not that. Bruce described jkd best when he told William cheung on his thoughts on Chinese arts and his style in 1969: "William, I’ve lost faith in the Chinese classical arts…my line of training is more toward efficient street fighting with everything goes, wearing head gear, gloves, chest guard, shin/knee guards, etc…I’ve named my style jeet kune do, reason for my not sticking to Wing Chun is because I sincerely feel that this style has more to offer regarding efficiency."
@@Deimos_the_Autist even though people credit Bruce for MMA, Bruce was not in favor of sport fighting since he found it not realistic because of the rule restrictions and focused on actual combat on the street.
It's also great to mention about the history of silat, Before modern times, Silat was often paired with "keris". A traditional knife. And they often read charms and curses on it to be protected during combat. Sometimes even on their own body. Their practice include meditating while calling out name of djinns which are going to be the one securing the safety of the person. A famous story i heard, one silat technique that requires the person's head to separate with the body. The head would have the keris in their mouth and fly around attacking people from the air. Whilst the body just fights on the ground. However now, silat doesn't use this kind of techniques anymore since most Asian countries, especially Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, bans the use of magic, or curses Silat is also a very deadly form and competitions would set certain rules in order to have a safe match.
nah, the curses and the djinns are also still used nowadays both in silat and general, it is illegal in Indonesia but many ppl still secretly use it especially if u have a business or smthn, and the witches called "dukun" and the curses called "santet" , while also they use some items like keris, ring, etc that equipped with magic as amulets

Japanese jiu jitsu is much more similar to judo with a longer allotted ground time, in judo you only have like 5-8 seconds to execute a submission before they stand you up. In Bjj takedowns are not awarded and are rarely practiced heavily as nobody cares about the stand up Japanese Jiu Jitsu removes both of these weaknesses by conjoining judo throws & takedowns with bjj subs Why Bjj is diff than Japanese jj is because it evolved with different guards and more elaborate submissions since it was only focused on the ground game.
