I am a curious engineer too: ). Doing these tests (charging at 500mA and discharging at different currents) takes many hours. So kudos to you for your patience and for following a systematic approach. Your capacity numbers on 750mAh Laddas look really good. I tested several new 750mAh Laddas (charged at 250 mA, discharged at 250mA). My discharged capacity on eight batteries was around 585 mAh. Of course, before testing the discharged capacity, I did "break-in" the batteries by doing 4 to 5 charge (250mA) and discharge (500mA) cycles. I am quite displeased with my eight 750mAH Laddas. Perhaps, mine was just a bad batch.
That is a little odd. That's still about 80% capacity, but seems a little low. I have some more battery testing coming up, and might take a look at those cells again after a year.
Thanks for the test! Have a few 900mAh and they last very well in my tiny head-lamp. So i thought I'd get an additional set but now at 750 I thought "what a bummer, they"ve probably sourced them cheaper and inferiour as well..." Quite happy to see the 750's does ok... BUT I do look forward to see new, well performing 900's from IKEA soon!
If someone is watching this in the future, and Ikea releases new 900mAh AAA batteries that match their new grey line, please send me a message in case I haven't heard.
I've used Ladda since they they were made in China (green/silver, not particularly good) and the white AAA 900mAH have been the only ones failing for me. Not a huge amount but around 10%, and the only ones I've gotten dead right out of the box. Maybe that's why IKEA choose to only use 750 now? I've gotten the new ones, so time will tell. Most of my applications with AAA are triple cell, and 900 have had rather big problem discharging unevenly to the point one cell dying and unable to charge again, or requiring multiple attempts (in IKEA Storhögen, sadly no longer sold). Not a single 2450 have failed so far and not the brown Ladda 1000 AA (mostly for remotes) either that we had for while, at least in Sweden. Thanks for high quality reviews!
Just doing a search to find out the same thing: why do the white AAA 900mAH Ladda's die so frequently. I have lots of both the while/blue versions of both AA and AAA, and the 900 mAH AAA's are the only ones that I've had to throw any of away.
@@gukid Yes, and my 900's keep failing sadly. Had 2 more this week refusing to take charge and just get hot. Can they be wound too tightly at the factory and shorting out internally? Still not a single other IKEA rechargeable have done the same. I probably have over 100 different types in total, even the very old green/silver IKEA that were made in China. Even they just work and just gets weaker every year, but none has died. 900's also discharges faster in storage than any other type.
It's a shame in IKEA stores you can't find the 900 mah Ladda 900 only the 750's now. Seems like a step backwards to me because I'm all about the capacity.
They gave the 750’s a light grey colour like the lower capacity AA, which to me suggests they might bring out a higher capacity AAA with the darker grey colour.
@EnhancedNightmare IDK, I'm seeing an opposite trend, with devices (remotes mostly) where they start using AAAs in something that can easily fit AAs, which annoys me to no end and has me thinking remote manufacturers are colluding with battery manufacturers.

Generally you don’t want to exceed 1C while charging where C is the capacity of the battery in mAh @ 1.2Vdc. So, if it is labeled as a 2500 mAh cell, then you don’t want to exceed 2500 mA during charge. There is no specific discharge formula for conditioning of low-self discharge Ni-MH batteries that I know of, since it usually isn’t necessary during normal usage.
Planning to buy this battery for my xbox controller, will it work properly on it? Can i charge this while its on the controller? Or do i need to buy the extra battery charger.
Do you have to charge the ladda batteries with the ikea branded charger or can they be charged with any charger? Is there a downside to charging batteries with different brand chargers than the batteries?
No it is not necessary. You can use whatever charger that supports NiMH chemistry, but doesn't exceed the battery's maximum charge current (usually, 1 x battery capacity). But some chargers out there are quite poor. I've tested a few of them on the channel. Thanks for watching!
It probably has a high cutoff voltage, don’t throw out your alkalines that “died” in it because they still have roughly 50% capacity left. If you must use rechargeables for it you can get lithium rechargeables that have a BMS that regulates the voltage to 1.5v. Be warned that your battery gauge will always show full because of this.

I doubt sadly because the demand for AAAs is falling, there are fewer and fewer devices using them. Now even TV remotes use Li batteries
