- Опубликовано: 29 окт 2024
- It's back! Adam Savage has always been obsessed with building a walkaround full-size velociraptor costume. In fact, he started this costume build 4 years ago, and at long last will be finishing it with the help fo a few collaborators in the workshop. But first, let's recap how Adam got to this point, speed building and experimenting with the movement mechanisms of the raptor way back in 2020.

Thanks for watching!

Darn they cut my favorite part where Adam steams a plank of wood and starts giggling like a child snd he’s so happy and then it cuts to a silent intertitle saying “Adam decided not to use this method”
What an incredible build !!! The use of materials is genius !!! Watching the body and tail come together so beautifully, then the neck was😢 I felt your pain.
I agree with other comments on here, Adam's solo videos got me through some very dark days during Covid. I was worried that watching them again would bring the darkness back, but I'm finding that I simply remember Adam's enthusiasm and the joy that comes with it. Huge thanks from all of us 💯
Agreed, and I can't believe how long it's been. I had forgotten about this project - but I'm so happy to have some closure.
I love it when I wait eagerly or something for so long that I forget I'm waiting for it. This was one of those times.
And as someone who hiked, and hitch-hiked, many many miles with very heavy backpacks back in my youth forty-odd years ago, I know how amazingly helpful it is to get the weight distributed between your shoulders and hips.
Every time he mentions what he's reading I look it up and it turns out to be an amazing book. 'Packing for Mars' sounds like an excellent read!
I’m so glad we got to continue to see the build, tempted to build one myself ☺️☺️☺️
I enjoy watching you create so much Adam thank you for years of hard work
This video is not only amazing on every level, it's also getting me through a really tough morning. Thanks Adam.
The Raptor is back!!
Yaaay! Dino time and a Long video….. I need the immersion ❤
glad to see her make another appearance! time to sit down with coffee and watch
I've been waiting for this one for years.
Adam is an engineering genius. ❤
Even though i am not a skilled maker, i can totally relate to making a costume as light as possible. When i construct an outfit, i always keep in mind that i will be wearing this outfit for hours. I want the end result to look good but also be comfortable and wearable for 8 hours. Functional is good too. Also need to consider bathroom breaks. So many steps from inception to completion. Great video.
I can’t wait too see her complete🙂
My little guy is being a dilophosaurus for Halloween and would love to build a mini version of this! I really have no idea where to start so it's fantastic you're sharing the process (as always!) :)
2020 = back to dizzicam
#inducedtopuke
Love you, Adam. AND, I love to see how far your steady-solo-cam skills have come since 2020!
So weird seeing the cave revert to what it was a couple years ago
This was the classic build from Adam I needed today.
Is this the return of the long gone series of videos? I'm on lunch and don't have time to watch it now, I'm so excited!!!
quick scan of the video and I saw it indeed is, I see they removed the making of the skin/scales. probably the part that caused problems with the original videos.
so cool.
The raptor build lives!!
Happy this is back.
Back in the day it was reported you had to stop due to the one dinosaur company not wanting you to broadcast their proprietary info on the skin tech.
Even if that is in fact what happened, I'm willing to bet you won't hear Adam talk about it. That's the sort of thing that gets worked out in private and stays that way.
@@Bad_Wolf_Media Even more so in this case as apparently nothing could be worked out.
Would love to see, or at least hear, about how you did the skin! It looks phenomenal, and I imagine a ton of work must have gone into sculpting whatever mold you use to get such realistic looking skin.
Yes!!! I’ve been asking what happened to your raptor build and videos
This video sneakingly displays an INSANE proficiency in building/design/fabrication
Still nothing on why the videos suddenly went away
They commented on it in a community post 14 hours ago:
"Hey, Tested subs! Tomorrow is the return of the dinosaur costume.
Some of you may remember that in 2020, Adam embarked on building a raptor costume. We'd started to roll out those videos in early 2021, when suddenly we stopped after part 3, and all previous episodes disappeared.
We couldn't comment on why, but many of you guessed that it was due to legal issues. We tried negotiating for two years to no avail, and finally, we chucked elements of the costume and started over. Tomorrow at 7 am, we are releasing a summary of the original 2020 build, and in the coming weeks, we'll be rolling out all-new episodes from this year, which includes painting, eye mechs and puppeteering.
We hope you enjoy the series, and we thank you all for your patience! How this went down was definitely not our choice nor our preference. But we're thrilled with the results and we think you will be too. Here's a sneak peek."
LOOKING FORWARD to seeing her in VR Again! Do the videos for your VR app PLEASE!
such a cool project. thoroughly enjoyed watching this. thanks for sharing the process :)
This is exciting! Love the build!!
Seeing the tail on you Adam makes the Raptor pelvis makes a lot more sense.
A raptor's pelvis seems like a partial counter balance for the tail.
Just my 2 cents thought.
So much work for a one man show. Respect.
I guess the lawyers worked something out.
"I am *not* a paragon of physical fitness." - Adam Savage
"Are you kiddin'? The shape I'm in, I could donate my body to science fiction." - Rodney Dangerfield
Random idea to overcomplicate.😂 Add 2 connective tension cables from lower neck and base of tail. To create counter balance & movement. When the Raptor looks left the tail slightly swings right and vice versa.
Amazing Work Adam
Outstanding
46:52 not me having a heart attack thinking Adam was going to drill into his Mars Yard shoes.
So the strategy you're describing @ 1:45 is what Mazda calls the gram strategy, and it's how they lightened the latest Miata (4th generation) almost down to the 1st generation's weight! Small slivers matter!
Aircraft design, weapons manufacturing, all sorts of processes use similar methods. “Lightening cuts” on firearms adds up over time.
I love you, Adam. You're the whole reason I'm obsessed with science.
Will we learn why the original videos were removed from youtube?
Norm has said it was a legal issue (without going into too much detail). I do remember they had done some things at the time with a company that made dinos and I'm wondering if something fell through with that, but that's my own hypothesis, not based on anything more than the little I've heard.
@@markhenkelman9989I’m 99% certain I know exactly what happened, but when I first said what that was way back when, my comment was deleted very quickly, and not by me.
@@Frooderick U gotta tell us without directly telling us man lol
Why worry about it? Do you really need to know? Things like this happen all the time, and it looks like people are just looking for things to gossip about.
@davidmarden4789 it was kind a d/ck move tbh and i wanna know who was the d/ck
I literally asked about the raptor head yesterday and here you are 🥲😮
I wondered what happened to this costume and why all the videos of you in Nashville went away! It is still a head scratcher!
Adam was here in Nashville!? 👀
@@TylerDeanMusic Yes at Animax Designs on Fernco Drive. Those were some of my favorite videos!
Apparently legal issues of some sort.
This is the tested equivalent of finding the Holy Grail!
Everyone wondered where this build suddenly vanished too, and why it was such a secret.
Can’t wait to see this video but I figured I’d comment as to why I think they had issues. I was at universal over here in Orlando and their raptor mascot costume is pretty incredible I can see the resemblance I’m sure there was some legal issues there but glad they got it sorted out.
About time, I thought this had been scrapped
You had concepts of a plan!
"You don't know this about me, but I've always wanted to build a raptor costume"....
Well Adam, we knew, we all knew... ;-)
Holy cow! I wish I could borrow you and the raptor costume to come to my daughter’s automation class. They had to draw and make birdhouses and she doesn’t see how this relates to automation.
Adam on his first visit to a new trainer at the gym: “so, I need a fitness plan designed so I can wear a dinosaur”.
After all these years, I'd expect the open cell foam to have disintegrated.
I don’t recall this build at all. But it’s interesting as all hell. Reading the comments I’d assume this might have been before my time and the vids got taken down so I never had the chance to have seen it.
It was 2019-2020 i think. Was a covid watch, but i didnt realise it was removed 😢. You havent missed too much as its more or less this video
💙🌻💙Good morning, Raptor. Does She have a name? Such a lovely creature. I'm so glad She is being finished. yay!
Adam admiring his tail... that's rich.☺️ This is how you build a prototype. Plans are for efficient commercial production. The head and neck range of motion is seriously limited. I hope you don't mind the constructive criticism.
Well I think a lot of people would want a raptor costume 👍
Adam’s excitement is infectious!! 😊 Tested got me through those long covid days 😊
JurassicPark made Velociraptors the size of Utahraptors.
Ive been waiting for this video ❤. I too have a dream of owning one of these. I really would love to see you create a feathered animal, even if it is based on the jurrasic park anatomy.
Look in the lower right five seconds in... feathers appear to be coming.
Zen and the art of dinosaur creation
I appreciate you always dropping Contant
This is by far the most non-one-day-build yet 😆
It's a big chicken Adam!
Did you jack a National Park road sign for your harness?! ;)
I hope there's feathers.
Look in the lower right five seconds in... they appear to be coming.
I feel Mandelaed❤
How flammable is that thing? Cause you ain't getting out quick😬. But I love it!❤
It shouldn't be in contact with fire. Its about the same as if your clothes caught on fire, how fast can you undress?
Literally saw the head in the back of the slomo guy collab vid and was wondering what happened to this project
anyone with a dino fixation like me i would recomend a book called "all yesterdays" by C.M. Kösemen, Darren Naish, and John Conway. really interesting look into how we visualize dinosaurs with some cool imagery of modern animals re-imagined the way we visualize dinosaurs. even give it an image search the hippo and baboon are awesome. good to think about the cling film effect and how we dont have any clue if dinosaurs had layers of fat that drastically changed their body shape. hope adam has a look i know he would enjoy.
Little surprised rattan wasn't used for the neck too.
Shouldn't it have feathers? Great build!
@15:00 The only problem I see is that the dinosaur's hips would be where your shoulders are.
It's generally a better idea to make it _open_ the mouth when you squeeze the brake, and close it when you let go.
The keel is attached to the sternum I believe
Dude, there is a thing happening...
People are saving videos of gameplay from old xbox360 like "mirrors edge" than running that saved footage threw runway gen3
Dunno how it's going to impact the next few years projects but dwam
Sorry guys just my inner child coming out. But at 47:21 I lost it.. 😂😂😂 🍆.. I'm really sorry guys
listen to me dale, look, when I was a kid...when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus rex more than anything in the world. I made my arms short and I roamed the backyard...and I chased the neighborhood cats, and I growled and I roared. Everybody knew me and was afraid of me. And then one day, my dad said, "bobby, you're 17. It's time to throw childish things aside." And I said, "Okay, Pop." But he didn't really say that, he said, "Stop being a fucking dinosaur and get a job." But, you know, I thought to myself, "I'll go to medical school...l'll practice for a little while, and then I'll come back to it.... but eventually... I forgot how to do it. I lost it. The point is, don't lose your dinosaur.
3d printed the clevisis...clevis'....clevii...any way, could remove a ton of mass from those by 3d printing
I am curious as to why carbon fiber(CF) wasn't used in this construction. Cost of CF versus plywood? I would imagine plywood would be far cheaper, but they weight reduction of CF would certainly be an advantage.
When making long flexible strong durable thing I think Carbon Fibre is the strongest material to weight you can get.
Things we _did_ know about Adam.
What Adam is saying is he had “concepts of a plan.” 😅
Could you build a bone structure that places the weight on the ground through the legs.
There’s is a slight typo in the description the part with the help of the word it’s typed as fo
Everybody's the same 😘☺️😊
Fun fact, the velociraptor had feathers. The common featherless depictions are actually as ridiculous as a featherless chicken.
Look in the lower right five seconds in... they appear to be coming.
I wonder why a factory made backpacking frame wasn't used. I know it is fun to build things but...
This was made to messure and distribution of weight and support is a bit different. And attachments are very different. Sometime its easier and better to build the entire thing
D I love dinosaurs ☺️😊
You look more chipper now than when you left this thing. And it disappeared.
No feathers?!
Look in the lower right five seconds in... they appear to be coming.
Feathers 😢
Look in the lower right five seconds in... they appear to be coming.

What about the feathers?

@@Thomas_Esson nice!
This is only part 1 and nothing new here!
This video summarizes parts 1, 2 and 3 from 2020, correct. The next video contains footage from 2024.

wAS THIS USED IN aUSTRALIA TO PRANK PEOPLE?
No
If that first guy is telling the truth then well you can call me jesus
AVP 👽
What's going on /. But everything good / no , ocean 🌊 is team work / even if that guy /! and I hope they get that/
It's way too big, and has far too few feathers for it to be anywhere close to a realistic velociraptor. Although realism is obviously not the goal here. Yes, I know it's not finished.
Look in the lower right five seconds in... feathers appear to be coming.
