No advantages. That is a draw. I don't think Vieira could have gotten a draw if the size difference were reversed, but we will never know. Still, Rafa is simply incredible. Vieira could pass the guard of almost anyone in the world, of any size. and he never even came close to passing Rafa's guard.
But then again, Rafa was able to pass a whole bunch of others bigger and stronger than rodolfo at will. It shows that even with someone like Rafa, he was able to effectively and decisively shut down berimbolos, leg attacks, etc. Both did wonderfully, a great display of BJJ.

Rodolfo pretty much smashed everybody since last months, yet Rafa, who gave up like 25-30 kg to him, managed to arrive into a decision against him. That's incredible, I think that now he may be the p4p best bjjer of the world, or at least top 3.

I would never celebrate a win like that, even if it's a world title, and against the great Rafa Mendes... if anything, I would be ashamed that I couldn't pass his guard or get an advantage. I always say that if the two are equally skilled, the bigger guy should win, which makes this match even more impressive for Rafa.
Also, it's matches like this that made me believe "submission only" tournaments are the only way to go, and why jiu jitsu was created... to take someone down, control them and submit them... period!

This is why ALL tournaments should be submission only... I would not call myself a champion if I can't submit somebody or I get 2 points for a take down and then stall.

If you play guard, you are putting yourself on your back. Basically, you are saying you are so good that you are giving yourself a handicap.
I just started training this sport and this aspect of it is the most unnatural for me: when an opponent elects to pull guard as offensive strategy. For a smaller opponent it makes sense but to me it is admission that he is giving up ground to survive. I have been watching a lot of the newer matches which feature guys who have incredible leg/knee/foot/ankle locks attacks from the guard so I know this not cut and dry hence the controversy. Guess I'll keep training .. keep learning.
