This explains why good therapists always look healthy and fit.
I’m in school, graduate in June. My body mechanics are my biggest challenge. There’s so much to think about...so focused on giving an awesome massage, body mechanics are my second thought. Honestly, have you thought about teaching-beyond RUclips? You have a gift. Thank you so much for taking the time to do these!
Excellent review for someone like me who has been in the field now 33 years! I took a few years off and I’m back at it and ouch. I started off with the right posture and then I got sloppy it really takes awareness just like when we eat we need to have awareness so we don’t overdo it! Might I add: when we do lunges make sure we are putting pressure on our heels more than the ball of our feet in order to prevent knee strain
1:48 it's so funny. I love your videos, gracias!
My husband is studying to be massage therapy he likes your videos
Keep up the good work !!☺️
Im 3 years into my career journey, and you helped my out along the way.
Thank you so much for this! I come back to this from time to time, just to get reminded of the proper body mechanics while working. Actually, some things here apply to other types of work, too. A big thank you! And the best new year wishes for you!
thank you so much Spencer for taking your time and making these valuable videos for us. It's greatly appreciated
Exactly what my massage school teaches concerning body mechanics: this is such a perfect review for my Body Mechanics Practical coming up. Thanks for posting!
I never thought of keeping my hips wide! Thank you, definitely going to give it a try. I have issues with my own hips so its an important area of myself to remember. I had dinner with a friend from massage school tonight and we talked about your videos. You’re awesome!😊
Thank you for this info! I’m new to Massage and this was a better explanation than what my course offered. 🙏
Killing it again, my friend. I couldn't help but laugh at the "hip movements" section and that you were using Bob. Great vid.
Spencer, you are awesome! I really appreciate your work! Thanks for sharing your videos!
I’ve been so nervous of taking a leap of faith and start my career. I feel like my body mechanics always suffer so I can give the best massage possible. I’m really trying to perfect my mechanics before I begin giving multiple massages a day multiple times a week. Thank you!!
I would say proper body mechanics requires mindfulness for sure and just being aware and connected with body and mind. Reminds me a lot of tai chi.
Thank you so much! I learned more from this video than I did in my 9 month training course.
Thank you for doing this video. Keep up the greatness.
I enjoyed getting a behind the scenes look at how massage therapists do their job. What other behind the scenes things can u show us? I wanna see those kinds of videos.
Excellent body mechanics. Thanks for the reminder!💪
Very helpful. Thank you! I tend to sometimes push to get extra pressure than when I stay aware, I fix my stance and am good. It's all about awareness of our own bodies!
Lovely content!
HOW ABOUT A VIDEO HOW TO DO PROPERLY EXERCISES to Massage therapists in order to INCREASE STRENGTHEN AND PREVENT INJURIES IN SHOULDERS, BACK, ARMS, AND WRISTLES? I am working at Spa industry for 2 years and atm we do at least 20 massages per week! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Do you think working on a table positioned at an angle can do harm? I currently work in a small room with the table positioned at an angle as opposed to straight in order to allow for room around the table. I figured as long as my body mechanics are good then it shouldn't matter however I've noticed unilateral pain since starting this job.
Actually a little suprised spencer is not using an electric high low massagetable.
Nice video, good job!
Erwin Dekker I highly recommend one and will get one when I can, but didn't talk about it b/c the body mechanics still apply
HM Massage very true, i also work my core in the gym, helps a lot too, guessing you do the same already too.
We have them where I work. All I can say is I am spoiled and can finally get a proper height on the table as I am vertically challenged.
Stephanie LeMaire about to get spoiled myself too. Enjoy!
Minute 1:47, basically me everyday at work and I wonder why I'm in horrible pain.
I wonder if you are still in massage. No more recent videos.
I really need some advice. I have to work on a client who is 560 + lbs at least once, sometimes twice, a week for 55min. She is chest level with me & that's with the table as low as it will go. This is the most challenging massage I have ever done in my entire ten year career. I apologize if this sounds insensitive. I'm just trying to find help with this situation. There has to be a better & easier way to work on clients who weigh over 500lbs. I'm stuck & don't have a routine for it. I just do my best & I even use massage tools on my client since it hurts my body if I use it the entire time.
Proper body mechanics goes out the window completely in this situation. I'm also unable to do deep tissue since she is too high for me to safely perform the techniques. I'm unable to get to her neck. I can't even get one hand to fit between the rolls. I can't hold her arm with one hand & massage with the other & they won't fit on the table beside her.
Any advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation is much appreciated.
Again, I hope I'm not coming across as insensitive. I'm only giving all these details to seek help with this. I want to be able to do everything I can to help her feel better.
LadyScarface Angel I encountered this situation and I decided to use the floor. Got a thick foam mattress and positioned client on it. Client of that size understands the challenge and also explained the dangers imposed on myself.
Anthony Cardona
Thank you for the helpful tip! I will see if she is comfortable trying that next time. Maybe then I will be able to provide a little more pressure & at least keep my wrists straight.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
I agree with Antony using the floor is a good idea. Ashiatsu also comes to mind with a client of that size but ultimately it does come down to a balance. Help and do what you can while staying within limits to conserve yourself
LadyScarface Angel you're more than welcome.
LadyScarface Angel, for the neck, when she is prone, with patients I have with "thicker" necks, I don't put the head cradle parallel to the table, I will tilt it down about 15 to 20 degrees if I can and that opens the back of the neck right up because it will give it a stretch instead of having it bunch up making it hard to access the muscle.
I have such a big crush on you 😍 you could talk about gum on a shoe, and I'll still watch it. 😂
🤔 I need help. Lol
Adam Messier gurrrrl
you had me laughing.
i’m so stoned. lol
LOL!!!
roger santiago haha, 🤔 I was being legit tho. Lol but cool you found it funny 😆😂
Wow how can you hold a sumo or lunge position for so long 😕
1:49 also known as the welder's huffer position
Take in all the fumes!
Obviously, I need to start lunging more. My hands and fingers are fine but my shoulders take a beating.😢
Is it ok to be naked while getting a massage. I’m a guy and I always wonder if it’s awkward for the person giving the massage, guy or girl. I person to just have nothing on.
I myself am a massage therapist. It depends on where you are getting a massage. If you are getting a massage from a place like massage envy or hand and stone, then how much you little you wear is up to you and your comfortability. Most businesses that employ massage therapists will specify, and if not most therapists (who are maintaining professionalism and doing their job correctly) will inform you of things like that before you get on the massage table. And as far as is it awkward? For me personally as a male therapist, no, not really, and most of my female coworkers will probably express the same answer. The human body is the human body, and after awhile that's all you view it as: Skin, bone, and muscle tissue. I see mostly female clients because of the metropolitan area i work in, but i do see male clients as well, and working people's bare glutes has never really been awkward. You just do it after a while and it's pretty much second nature. Sorry, that was a long winded response. Hope it helps.
Thanks
Its ok to be totally naked...look at your state's massage board site for specific rules
Q
what accent do you have? lol
Stop locking you back leg, white belt. 'The entirety.' You are not old enough to have worked enough to 'work long.'
