Santa Monica's Pendpac Garbage Truck on the Beach

Santa Monica's Pendpac has been back up and running for a little while now after having its differential issues fixed. A few months before it went out of service, though, it had its arm replaced for the second time in its then four-year lifespan due to the horrendous design of the Pendpac Alleygator arm. This time, however, they gave it a Labrie Automizer arm as Labrie acquired Pendpac in 2011 (this was actually one of the last trucks Pendpac made). Now that Labrie holds the old Pendpac patents they actually manufacture a truck with the Alleygator body and an Automizer arm, known as the "Alleygator AGR." This particular truck has a genuine Pendpac body from before the buyout making it a Labrie/Pendpac hybrid and not the AGR.
Anyways, since my last video from the beach they removed the lid stops from the Rehrigs so the wind can't catch them and blow all of the cans over. There are a few open lids left here and there now but I don't think anyone cares or even notices for that matter... lol. Frankly a few open lids are far more attractive then a couple hundred trash cans strewn on their sides across the beach.

This is interesting I have never seen a beach Garbage Truck before! I can't believe it does not get stuck in the sand pry do to its special design. Lots of good carts in the video as well Otto Toter Rehrig and Roto.

That truck is a 4x4 that's why. I would assume with heavy rain it could get stuck though.

Usually they do this on trucks that don't go very far because the company is nearby, or because they don't expect the trucks to get very heavy. There is a Land o Lakes plant where I live and I always see their tanker semi's pass by, which are equipped with the same single tires as they go only to the nearby dairies

this one is, you can tell by looking under the cab. you’ll see a big solid axle, and a couple times, when he stops, you can see his front wheels jerk a little bit.

What do you suppose was the big issue with the PendPac arm for a light beach route like this? What was going wrong with it?

the arm kept cracking and was constantly needing welds done, which is apparently a pretty common problem with them. I've also heard they have major electrical issues
