    I use a Rocket book for work notes. I was trying to stop buying work notebooks that just take up space after they’re full, but you might need to reference notes later.
    1st, the pens take getting used to, and I don’t think they like being at a straight 90 degrees to the paper? I write at an angle to the paper and they do better.
    2nd, I think these are good for certain uses, but I would never use it as a planner.
    I hope this helps those who might be reading the comments.

    I just bought one and had the opposite experience. The pen was easy and very legible. The conversion to a .pdf and upload to my cloud account was very convenient with the app. I am totally satisfied with it, having bought it blind... It was an impulse buy (so cheap!) and I had never even heard of them before.

    I have one. A previous boss used one to take her work notes. I admired how she had all her notes in one place and so was prepared all the time. It is a very functional tool. It does feel weird to write on and when you erase, it's hard to write in the same place where you just erased. The frixon pens aren't real dark, at least not for me. To me, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks so I use it to take notes on courses I take or notes I want to keep. Then I scan them in. The scanning does work; it's just a bit wonky at first.

    My husband wanted one and I got it for him last Christmas. He is left handed with very messy/hard to read hand writing. The OCR feature doesn’t work for him, but it never does anyway. He has no trouble with smearing or the frixion pens. I had lots of frixion pens and markers already. I use them for sewing/quilting and for my journals. This Christmas I decided I wanted the fusion plus and I’m so so happy with it. I had no trouble with the app or scanning. The symbols at the bottom are customizable. I have one set up to send to my work email, one to my home email and one to my one drive so far. For,one drove, I set up a folder called rocketbook scans - I know, so original lol - but it works seamlessly and I can find everything. I work freelance so have many customers and meetings, etc and it’s impossible,to keep regular notebooks organized. I also love the different templates. A quick tip, I do find that you have to wait a few seconds after you erase to write on that area. If you don’t like frixion pens, papermate also makes a heat erasable pen that I’m told works. But if you don’t like the pens or the feel of the paper, it’s probably not for you.

    6:30 I'm a lefty - I don't have too much trouble with smudging, but I will say that I use the 0.5 Clicker pen instead. The finer point allows ink to dry quicker. Rocketbook has a couple things that work with the app - the list checkbox- when writing on ANY page, put a square at the start of the line, the app recognizes it as a list item. Also even if your Rocketbook doesn't have a title box, by using "##" before and after the title, it will name the file too!. Thanks for the review of the fusion plus. I love the tag box at the bottom! I have an exec. size Core, letter size Fusion, and a multisubject (ok, 2 multi subjects- but they are for different work aspects.) I also had to adjust how hard I wrote. 18 mins - didn't have that much trouble getting the pens to work!

  • @MilwaukeeWoman
    @MilwaukeeWoman 9 месяцев назад +7

    I got mine a couple weeks ago and had zero of the problems you did. I don't death grip my pen so it writes smooth and great, the app locks on to the page instantly and scans quickly. It took me three minutes to fall in love with this. It solved all the complaints I had with the frixion pens, which was that they can disappear, and now I don't care if they do because I have an organized pdf of the page. I already had Google drive so that's where everything goes. The paper texture works well with the pens.
    I laughed a little when you cussed. Kept it real. I swear a lot, too.
    But now I can see that not everyone is going to love this product. I liked it so much I couldn't imagine everyone wouldn't want it but now I can see that it would have flaws for certain types of users.
    My only complaint is that pastel colors don't show up in the scans. Still a small price to pay to have an executive size notebook in my purse that I can use over and over.

The notes now were very hard to read and writing on it was a bit of a pain. lol! I'm totally with you on this. I use Obsidian for digital note taking and I was looking at something like this for those odd situations we I need to take handwritten notes. The issue here is 'friction' -- or how much effort does it require to get my ideas into something that I can use or re-use and this SEEMS like it could be a great asset to bridge the final frontier between digital notes and handwritten notes. I'm not sure I need to use it -- I'd rather just take a photo with my phone and then use some OCR software or something.

    I have used a rocketbook at work but the scanning side of things never worked out for me. I am trying to retrain from handwriting to typing my notes and it was a decent in-between stage. The imprints do eventually impact reussing the page- I went with all blank bot-grid pages and when one was totally worn out I cut it out. I wouldn't buy another one, but I'm glad that I gave it a try!

    Commenting before the end: writing with too much pressure will mess it up, and ive noticed the Frixion ink likes to get goopy in the ball and i have to wipe it or scribble it to write again. Rocketbook paper has a coating on it, so writing heavy scratches through the coating instead of glossing it over top. Soft hand may help; i get really nice ink delivery after some practice ☺️

I found it really easy to incorporate into my workflow with minimal friction. I have purchased additional notebooks and accessories due to my personal positive experience. Even uploading is much easier than your experience which looks like a 3 am infomercial, LOL. I’m so glad I didn’t see this video prior to getting my first one or I would not have purchased. Oh wow! I think I may have been the one to suggest checking out Rocketbook! So sorry it turned out to be an unpleasant experience. Yeah, Frixion markers definitely work better than the pens. I have a set of Frixion Fineliners that I prefer to use with it. However, I haven't been using mine for a while now. It became too aggravating having to erase with water, especially if I made a tiny booboo that could've easily been fixed on regular paper. Lots of times I ended up having to erase the whole page and start over because I'd inevitably erase more than what I was aiming for. So, now it sits in the bottom tray of my paper organizer, poor thing. Maybe I'll pick it up again if I can get my hands on a water pen, which would make it so much easier to erase small spots.
    Thank you for at least trying it out! That Fusion notebook is so cool! Well, the IDEA of it is cool, as you said. And I love the color you chose! 💖
    Btw, Rocketbook has gone crazy with their product line. Not only do they make reusable notebooks and planners, but they also have index cards (which I bought a set of on clearance at Walmart), and they are currently running a Kickstarter to fund their newest invention: reusable sticky notes. I gotta see how those are gonna work! lol

    The markers work well. And if i remeber correctly you can get fine needle point style pens that work much better. Its been a hot minute since I've used mine. Used to love them. Then.....SQUIRREL! and I've been jumping around. And yes, you tell the app which symbol meams what for usage. It might work with notable or whichever program you mentioned. But you link the symbol in the app to the other app you want it to ipen and use. Just have to get the 2 apps to shake hands first.

    You should specify at the outset that this is the Fusion Plus. When you were describing the pages, I was confused because I have three different kinds of Rocketbooks and have been researching the Rocketbook Panda planner as well, and your description sounded like none of them. I had to wait to read what the notebook said on the cover after you opened it, and you had the pen on top of that portion for a bit LOL. You do say the name of the actual type of Rocketbook about 15 minutes into the video, but it would have been helpful to me to have seen it in the title and notes, since there are so many different kinds. Aside from that, super thorough review, greatly appreciated! I didn't know about the Plus and I think it's a definite improvement over the previous version. Thanks!

    I have one from back in 2017-18 and don't use it much. The writing experience is not great (the quality of the linework is almost spidery) and it's not really paper - the experience of it is writing on thin plastic sheets. I never had an issue with the scanning though. I do like the different sheet styles on yours though. Mine only has the weird dot grid.
    After reading the comments, I may have to try out some frixion markers though...

    Frixion pens work great on paper...not so much on the plastic Rocketbook sheets.
    But the ink disappears in a hot car, under a sunny window, in a warm backpack, in a hot room without air conditioning...and putting it in the freezer only brings back SOME of the writing.
    It's a great idea in theory but just falls short because the ink is far too fragile for real-world use, especially for people in hot climates. (And I'm not talking the Amazon jungle...southeast Virginia is too hot for it.)

    Not sure why you were having so many issues with the pens and the scanning, I have the Rocketbook Fusion and it works really well for me. I just got it for Christmas and I find it writes well, scans well and the OCR works well for me also. I'm wondering if they improved it since you tried, but I've been very impressed. I have set it in the app that I select for it to send once scanned, so that might be why I'm not getting the issue with multiple emails at the same time. Also wonder if the phone used might play into how well the scanning works. I've used both a Pixel 6 and an iPhone 12 and both worked great for me. Maybe worth another try :)

    I hate my Rocketbook. You appear to be having the same issues I had with mine, with the pens 1) not wanting to write, and 2) leaving a dent in the paper. I tried the marker-style pens as well and while they were much better, it was super impractical for writing....words. Sketches & diagrams were fine, but it was worthless for just writing text. Bonus problem was that the markers scanned like 80% ok, and the click pen scanned at like 10% ok. I will say I like all the template options but they're useless if the pens won't write and the app won't scan.

    I kickstarted these back in the day and wasn’t impressed with the erasability (this was back when you needed to put them in the microwave with a mug of water to erase). I actually love frixion pens though, and the app is a good idea but needs some work.

    • @wildly_heather
      @wildly_heather Год назад +2

      I think they change most of those because if you microwave it the pen ink just goes clear, and if you put it in the freezer every single thing you've ever written on it will come out.

    • @lauraholt9821
      @lauraholt9821 Год назад +4

      @@wildly_heather not why they changed it. You microwaved it WITH a cup of water. The steam is what helped erase the ink completely. Not just deactivate the pigment. The materials the use in the notebook don't always hold up well to microwaving them. So they've moved away from that option and just use water to wipe clean. Easier that way.

    Never had any issues with the recognition feature or the writing of the pens. Maybe your phone isn't compatible with the software, or your camera isn't good doesn't stabilize very well. It's defniitely not a general problem. Regarding the writing of the pens. You are writing with a very unusual icepick grip. Many pens will not work well with that technique (e.g. fountain pens). You cannot really generalize this to every user.

    I can't help but feel like this is just a glorified whiteboard. Especially nowadays with the technology on our smartphones, it can automatically detect and transcribe text when you take a photo. My android phone even has a "scan" option that will convert a photo to a .pdf if it detects that it's a document. I agree that this is a wonderful concept, but not for $47 when you can just buy a roll of whiteboard paper for like $7 and make your own pages.
    I really appreciate your review, thank you for sharing!!!
