He sought the God of the Israelites yes. But he also sought other deities. He was a pagan who believed in a multitude of deities and prayed to them. The inscription I reference in the video also shows this. Even when the Israelites turned aside to idols such as Baal, Asherah, and Molech, they still believed in Yahweh and offered sacrifices to him. The prophets show that he wanted them to stop idol worship and honor him the way He had set forth in the covenant. So while Balaam may have sought Yahweh’s permission to curse them, he was still very much a pagan and a seer/diviner. At least, that’s what it seems to be.
