Great video. To create a mirror gloss, I use cotton balls. I picked that up from my years in the US Army where cotton balls are almost universally used. They dampen easily and are easy to grip. They produce no lint and are very soft.
Hi there! You are absolutely right the brushes get better over time. I got a couple a few years back. I bought them at a equestrian-shop for close to the same amount. There’s some gentlemen-shops here in Denmark where you will have to pay 5 x that for the same quality. Anyway it’s great to be innovative. Thanks great video as always 👍🏻
I have a few items more in my shoe cleaning box. Mostly obsolescent cherry blossom creams and polish. I have now completely gone over to Saphir. Two items I have which I consider essential are an apron and a tin of swarfega. Linen carpenters’ aprons are probably the best for your needs but butchers’ or those for barbecues will do. Swarfega is by far the best jelly for removing all the cream and polish that seeps through the putting-on cloth deeply staining your fore finger.
I have one from a £1 shop, which has just the right level of stiffness and just enough yield to make forming a lather a simple and, bizarrely, a strangely enjoyable task!
Very good video, I would imagine horsehair shoe brushes are much like badger shaving brushes, as they are used and the hairs are split etc the ends become softer. I'm currently using an old 2 bottle of wine box as my shoe care box. It's amazing what you can make use of 🤣
Great choice - I was an avid combat boot fan for many years and if you think logically, what other boots/shoes would you ever need. Actually, I just recently picked up a pair of Clarks Desert Boots from my local outlet store for a great cut-price. They were originally the most practical combat boot for desert warfare and their influence can still be seen in desert combat boots today. I'll do a review video on them as soon as they weather gets better in England for me to wear them a bit.
Just a tip, not a comment ; The French word d'or (golden) is pronounced more like 'door' (in English) not dior. Thank you for the very informative and entertaining videos sir. Regards Arno from Belgium.
Hi Ash, I really enjoyed this video. Very informative. Ash, I absolutely love the navy jacket you are wearing on this video. Is this a hopsack jacket? Would love some more info about this jacket. Thanks in advance
Glad you enjoyed the video, one of my earliest offerings. The jacket is a simple blazer I purchased from a budget store for about £50. Its unlined, so I wear it mostly for informal situations in the warmer months. All the best - Ash
I recently bought this shine kit from eBay it came this this dopp bag and 2 panther polish’s a black and brown and 2 small brushes. Have you ever heard of this brand? I went ahead and bought some Saphir patè de Lux just do that I know I have a well know Quality item in my kit: I used the panther stuff the other day in one of my boots and they came out great but I couldn’t get that mirror finish, but to be fair it was my first time trying to shine I got the Yellow and blue tin , The one with the bumblebee by the way. If you used it how do you like it? Also I plan or getting these in the future. Not all at once but I would like some from each. Cole hann Stacy Adams Allen Edmonds Florsheim
I have a shoe care box with Saphir products. I have only purchased their neutral color creams and polishes to date as to be versatile for both black and brown shoes. Do you tend to always use colored creams and polishes?
Working through your vlogs and loving the channel, a few questions for you. The Saphir range, you have indicated price points for the products, I note on Amazon they are advertised but at around half the price you've quoted, do you think they are non genuine? If so, where can I obtain the real mc coy? Also, the Medaille Dior wax polish, is it colour specific or could I use neutral for all colour shoes?
There are several different tiers of Saphir products. I recommend only the highest tier (Medaille d'Or). Neutral can be pressed into service with any colour, but on black and darker colours, I would strongly suggest opting for the colour of the leather of the shoe. It is by far the best product on the market
Saddle soap is for stripping everything off leather including all previous polishes, it’s only necessary every now and then when a shoe needs complete restoration. I keep it separately from my cleaning kit as it’s just in the way, although he looks like he has plenty of room in his box.
yes, I also use saphir, as I bought some welted brogue boots and they were just a bit too light - but I got them for a great price! and bought the products in this video - ruclips.net/video/17DAxr-SC0s/видео.html& and it worked amazing! I get nice comments on my boots, but I don't wear them that often (certainly not in wet weather..) as I like to alternate between various ones I have...debenhams is a good place for bargains too as they often have sales on...
talking of, I've just been on their website and saw these...very tempted to buy a pair... www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_084011151770_-1
They look very nice indeed and at that price, seem like a genuine bargain. I was sorry to read that Debenhams have called in the receivers in the last week. Its a shame, as department stores were always a good place to shop for shop bargains. Good luck with those boots and let us know how you get on.
@@TheChapsGuide yes, i had read about Debenhams too, such a shame, but with the lockdown, and the fact the high street is dying a slow death this trend will continue to happen :( I'll get back to you when i receive the boots and ket you know what I think of them
Hi Chaps. I'm thinking: "Doesn't wax "protect" shoe against reapplication of shoe cream if it isn't strapped before?"

Many thanks for taking the time to share what can first appear to be a very confusing subject
The cosco cloth idea is brilliant!
Thanks Ash!
Hi Ash, I love watching your videos relating to shoes, keep up the good work
Glad you like them!
Thanks for the videos. I've learnt loads!
Glad to help
I find that the small daubing brushes are useful when performing a deep clean with saddle soap.

Can't beat saphire and thanks to you and your great tip with the cotton pads I bull my boots and shoes in record time.
Another great video Ash 👍

What about stuff for suede?
Cotton wool, I use cotton wool to polish my shoes along with water and my old tooth brushes along with with my Wife's old tights for buffing up.
It has always worked a treat for me, best regards, Ash
I have 2 pairs of combat boots from Wal-Mart, my work pair and a pair I wear with my going out clothes.
I switched from Kiwi brand, to Saphir

Florsheim
3 of those brands are in the list of the 10 “ not to buy “ shoes video made by Trenton + Heath cobblers. The Allen Edmonds are good.
Save your money; don’t buy Stacy Adams or Florsheim. They are very cheaply made.
I have a shoe care box with Saphir products. I have only purchased their neutral color creams and polishes to date as to be versatile for both black and brown shoes. Do you tend to always use colored creams and polishes?
Certainly worth having black and mid-brown, they really refresh the shoe colour.
Is it good practise to use separate cloths for each Saphir product?
I don't personally, but it depends how many cloths you have.
