Silly pig facts for those who want to know...........
Pigs have all the same blood groups as humans.
The first heart transplant on a human was carried out using a pigs heart.
Up until recently pig skin was used on humans for skin grafts if they hadn't enough of their own skin for grafting.
Pigs love a roll in the mud and they do it for fun and also to act as a sun screen. Pigs get sunburnt especially on their ears.
I love pigs and am a farmer's daughter raised with hundreds of those fine creatures on our farm. They roam outdoors and eat a very varied diet- just like us!

@@mustangsally3775 I've a 5 year old Large White called Dolly and she can count to four! She also sings a little. Mother sings, Hello Dolly from the musical and she joins in.
The old-timers trick for getting a newly dug pond to hold water was to turn pigs into it and let them wallow in it.
Is that because they would pack it down naturally and make it watertight?
@@nicktatters7523 If you've ever watched hogs in a mudhole you see them rooting around and reducing the soil to a fine consistency and then laying down, twisting and compressing it with their weight till they've got the ultimate comfort, and an optimal foundation for a pond. By the way, the only time hogs are happier than this is when they're laying in a trough filling up on slop.

I have a pet pig, Matilda, here in the Philippines.
We built her, 'Matilda Ville,' on our homestead.
Its arount the same size, but made of concrete and filled to water. She loves it. I also take her to graze in the field and there is a small stream that she loves to lay in and wollow un the mud. Happy as a pig in S💩

They are talking to you! So darned cute! You wait, when you work your land you will be as brown as mud, not because it's wet and muddy, but the weathering from being outside. I used to be lily white - even wore a watch to show people I did have a tan, well slightly different! They are delighted - great to see such enjoyment! Cheers. Edited to add - get a hat!
How thoughtful of you, Richard, as pigs can get sunstroke. But be careful, you don't want to be in the pen with them on your own, they can be dangerous as well. Unpredictable characters, and much too clever. I had a pet wild boar that would dig her own hole right where some water dripped off the roof of her shed.

I have always set up a microjet to wet an area inside the paddock, but away from the trough, as the soil becomes wet, the pigs dig their own wallow, the microjet is put on or off as required - as I have always run commercial numbers of free range pigs, digging wallows for them is impractical.

Neat thing about Swine is they have a specific area the use to as a toilet, if you will. They dont lay around in their own feces. My property isnt large enough for pigs .. Chickens yes but thats about it, apart from the garden. Been at this years now and Stress to everyone I can to do it themselves. We will need to be doing this in the Very Near future. Love seeing this mate. Kudos.
