I read one time where N&W staged a 500 car coal train down in the coal regions of SW West Virginia, KY as a publicity stunt. This was utilising steam power, back in the late 1950's; must have been quite a spectacle. Speeds must have been a lot slower in mountain terrain than in UP's Nebraska here. Thanks for the video. Demonstrates the high efficiency of contemporary railroading.
Good Afternoon Tom!!🥤 You were in my stomping grounds!😊 With the UP, and it's vast territory to cover, it's always been "the bigger the better"!! Bigger for sure!! The jury is still out on the better!!😊

Wow, great video, I have seen CSXT loaded coal trains with 2 engines in front,130 to 135 loaded coal cars, with 2 engines at the rear here in Maryland
292, but I could be wrong .... I am certainly not going to count 'em again!
That's the longest train I have ever seen.
@@travelingtom923 By the time I got to 150 I wish that I had never started counting!!!
Good video. That was a long train. Now its normal. The CN gets coal trains from the BNSF that's the same length.
That's the type of train loaded down and moving that fast that I would not be sitting that close to ... that thing derails, you are toast.
Nice catch! 1218 axles
That was two trains in one. For sure. That rear DPU looked so lonely. Kinda out of place.
