      What is the long-term drainage?
The drainage is exactly that, long term. The drainage is usually pretty heavy in volume right after the initial surgery but after the limb matures, within a couple of months, the volume will lighten up and slow down, but it will never actually stop draining. From what I understand the amount of drainage will vary from person to person, with some experiencing very heavy discharge and others not so much. It is important to understand however that everyone who has this procedure done should expect some discharge to occur on a daily basis. Jason usually wraps some gauze around the pylon extending out of his limb and changes the gauze once or twice a day al depending on how much discharge is occurring.
How long after surgery can you be fitted for a foot? How long before you can walk on the foot?
Expect to be off of your feet for 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Once you are cleared for weight bearing then you can be fit with the prosthetic foot. At first you will only be able to partially weight bear with crutches and then slowly work up to full weight bearing with crutches and then finally walking unassisted. This process usually takes another 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Much of this recovery time will be dictated by the surgeon but it is important not to rush the process because the implant into the bone needs time to ossify and the bone itself needs to thicken up and become more rigid/stronger.

I'm glad I read this. I never considered draining. Obviously theres a lot to learn before going through with this or if the va will even consider it.
