      If I understand the logic behind it correctly, they get X number of years per confirmed victim. So, if they ever get exonerated from one murder, there are still all the others keeping the killers in jail, instead of having to let them out and restart the entire several years long court process.

    I really like how Wendi treats the cases with respect, one complaint that I have about other true crime/horror channels is that they try to overdramatize every story by putting eerie music, dramatic pauses and even screaming and crying sound effects while talking about the murders of real people, like, come on man, you're talking about a REAL person who died, at least treat them with respect. I was raised for half my childhood as a Mormon and was actually bullied a ton for it because of the multiple wife belief. The multiple wives started because Mormons were being killed and run out of where they lived. The church encouraged you to take on another family if you could afford it and had the room for them. Once they had stopped being run off and killed multiple wives was banned and discouraged. Those that wanted to keep doing it separated and are now called the flds which stands for fundamentalist latter day saints which are completely separate from the lds Mormons. Thank you for acknowledging that misspread of information and informing others, even if I'm not Mormon anymore I wish more people knew the actual background it would stop so much hate towards them.

    • @MidnightCheerios
      @MidnightCheerios Год назад +4

      Ehhhh, I was also raised Mormon, and that is a common justification that's given *today* for polygamy from the Church, but its not really true. Polygamy started with Joseph Smith in Nauvoo when the Mormons were in a relatively secure position. Joseph would use this new "doctrine of plural marriage" to justify marrying the women that he wanted to, this included girls as young as 14 and also other mens' wives. He kept this secret, at the time, and restricted its knowledge to certain church leaders, which included Brigham Young. The newspaper "The Nauvoo Expositor" found out about this and ran the story, which made Joseph *very* mad. He formed a mob and destroyed the printing presses, which eventually led to him being jailed at Carthage Jail. This is where a mob stormed the jail and killed him.
      The ensuing succession crisis is when the church split into a bunch of different factions, but the pro-polygamy Brigham Young faction is the one that most members followed to Utah. Polygamy flourished in Utah, especially among well-to-do, highly connected men. This wasn't due to a lack of men for all of these women, or a high number of widows, this was done because that's how the mainline church worked then. Frankly, it was done because the leaders of the church wanted more women. After polygamy was banned around the turn of the century, many prominent members of the mainline church *continued* to practice it in secret until the 1920s.
      There are a lot of justifications that the modern Mormon church for Polygamy. I feel like its a way for modern Mormons to avoid confronting a very uncomfortable fact: The Mormon Church under Brigham Young was *much* more similar to the FLDS or LaBarons than Mormons would like it to be.

The bodies were all found along the Matanuska River out where I grew up outside Palmer, Alaska, specifically in an area known as the Butte. There are further murders that are allegedly attributed to him as he kept a map of the murders and where they were killed, and many bodies that were either suspected or claimed by him have never been found because the river siltbeds change so drastically from year to year as the glacier melt varies.

    29:27 My dad actually met Adolfo Constanzo a few times before he started his rampage. He grew up in Matamoros around the time Adolfo was there. My grandmother even invited him over to eat a few times, since he was apparently a friend of a friend of my dad’s. She described him as being “very crude and edgy” (in Spanish). My dad personally believes that his worst early crimes were done because his even edgier girlfriend pushed him to do them.
    He told me all of this unprompted on a long car ride after hearing Adolfo’s story being told in one of the podcasts he listens to. I don’t think I’ve ever been more surprised in my life.
    The thing that stuck with me the most is that he was mad that the Mexican police was very uninterested in catching him until an American became a victim. Then (and only then) did they decide to do something.

    I feel for some of these killers. I mean the child version of them. So many had abusive backgrounds and they needed help. It makes sense that the US has the most serial killers with our bunk mental healthcare system.
    And just so no one misunderstands me. They absolutely should have been held responsible for their actions despite this. I just think there has to be a way to prevent their violent actions.

    • @42Fossy

      I feel the need to point out - the US has the most RECOGNIZED serial killers, however, there are many countries that either lack the legal structure to convict the people in them who become serial killers, or who outright turn the other way to the existence of them because they've internalized the idea of a "serial killer" as a cultural thing that couldn't possibly happen in their own country, rather than a consequence of a seriously disturbed person who could come from anywhere. The US' mental health care might be terrible, but consider what the mental healthcare in countries where, say, it's still punishable by death to be gay must be like. Can you really imagine a country like that having the kind of forward-thinking, top-of-the-line mental healthcare that people really need?
      I wouldn't have brought this up, I know it's a dick move to "AKSHUALLY" people, but the fact that the US has this reputation as being the capital of serial killers is actively causing people in other countries to not be brought to justice, so it's a false narrative that seriously needs to be undone.

    • @SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames333
      @SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames333 2 года назад +24

      @@SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames333 I know. If you would have read what I said, instead of skimming over it like you did, you would see I said the US has more serial killers in general. If you don't believe me, look it up. Obviously serial killers exist everywhere but the US tops the charts with 3, 204 known serial killers. England is second but not even close with 166. There's something wrong when a country has that many known serial killers. That's the only point I was making.

      @@luxuscarnage4828 I realize this comment is a month old, but, the person you replied to makes several good points. Another thing they didn’t mention as well is that other countries, especially in recent times, have been a little “free” with their interpretation of certain things. Where they’ll change what “counts” as a serial killing, or a “mass shooting”, etc, so that they won’t need to report it as such and it keeps the “official” numbers down. I have not done the research and dug through the records to see how much this changes things, though, it’s just food for thought. Also don’t forget the sheer size/population of the US compared to a lot of other places.

      I experience something similar. It’s kind of like when Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The whole point of the story is that once you know both good and evil, you have to constantly make the conscious decision to chose good instead of evil, whereas before you had no concept of evil and can thus never perform it.
