First time I played I was probably around... 8, or 9. My cousin and I played together. For some reason, ALMOST every time we opened the game we created a new family instead of continuing the old one 😅. We asked our english speaking aunt what were common english last names and she said Smith, so we started to name every one of our families Smith so any time we'd go trying to play the last family we would have a hard time finding it because the whole hoods were filled with Smiths 😅. I loved making my female sims have red hair, that wavy, glossy base game hair. And a dog or a cat was a must in every family. It's so nostalgic to think back to these old times. I played without much worry or without thinking what was the "right" way to play. It was silly and fun.
Happy anniversary to us! I'm actually a newer player, I only started playing sims 2 in 2020, when I finally completely burned out of ts4's bullshit. It tooks me a couple tries to really get The Sims 2, but once I did, once I realised you can play a whole town, oh I was hooked. Happy 20 year anniversary to The Sims 2 and 5 year anniversary to me lol I actually just started a new Pleasantview and now I'm emotional about it 🥹

I’m so amazed at your memory lol! I was 12 when TS1 came out and 16 when TS2 came out, and although I played both right from the start, and I know I loved them and played them both a ton, I remember nothing about my early Sims! 😂 all I remember is the good vibes and how much I loved it! Absolutely love this game though, more than ever these days. It’s always new because of our amazing modding community and I’m so thankful to share such a fun hobby and great community of Sims 2 players!
I was only 1 when the sims 2 came out so my first game was actually the sims 3. I didn't get the sims 2 until I was a teen and starting collecting the dics of all the games. First time playing I made a boho sewing sim who lived in the "Haute Habitation" house from the bin with her many many toddlers. Even tho the sims 2 wasn't my first sims game I still find it the most nostalgic, probably cuz of all those warm wood tones and crazy carpets haha.
I've always been very afraid of downloading mods and ending up breaking my game. Once I downloaded some custom furniture and I got an error message every time I tried to enter the lot where they were, as I was a kid and didn't understand anything about errors in the game, I panicked and reinstalled everything 😂😂 Since then I never downloaded custom furniture again 😆 Only hair, clothes and skins. And I happily played like that for over 12 years. Now that I have a better understanding of how the game works and understand English better (all the error messages are in English and it's not my first language) I finally decided to give mods and custom furniture a try, but nothing too crazy 😅 You and some other simmers made me feel more confident about downloading mods 😄 I love the sims 2 community and love your content! 💚
tbh I didn't play the sims 2 until the free give away for it on Origin. ^^; Like I played the sims 1 when i was 10 back in 2000 but i kinda skipped the sims 2 and jumped to playing the Sims Bustin out on PS2 and GBA and The Sims 2 on PS2 (altho I sent the most time on the Sims Bustin' Out lol) then I jumped to the sims 3 when it came out. But when I played the sims 2 in 2014-2018 (I didn't play it much when i first got it until 2018) I immediately fell in love with it. I recreated my first ever two room mate sims from the Sims 1, Frank and Hank, 2 brothers who were complete opposites. Frank was shy, nice, and very neat while Hank was mean, outgoing, and lazy.. The two argued a lot but they've never fought often enough for either of them to leave voluntarily. I kinda forgot what kind of story I was trying to do with them but somehow Hank fell for Nina Caliente and Frank just got with Brandy Broke.

I didn't have all of the expansion packs, but I had a lot of friends my age growing up who also played, so we used to lend the disks to each other to fill in the blanks. So when sims 2 came out, that arrangement continued. I remember my parents refused buying the base game for me when it first came out because it was really expensive. So at the start the only way for me to play it was when visiting friends. The first physical copy I got was actually the University expansion and I remember being so excited for it. The rest is history 😊

Loved this video so much 💓💓💓 Hearing you talk so nostalgically about TS2 was fun to hear. That Christmas present story was iconic. I also unwrapped my Christmas presents and found out my parents got me TS1 makin' magic when I was about 9. I started playing TS2 in 2005. I had a windows 98 pc that would not run TS2. We went and bought it from GameStop and it did not work so I had it for months and could not play it. I don't remember my first time playing it but I do have lots of fond memories playing TS2 Apartment Life when I got that pack. (That's a pack I often don't hear you talk about or play with). I think one of my first memories of TS2 was playing in the trailer park and having my sim have babies with the people who lived in the trailer park. I use to fake sick when I'd get a new pack so I could stay home and play all day. My mom knew I was faking but she allowed it because she knows how much I loved playing The Sims games. I didn't have many TS2 packs. Only base, Nightlife, Pets, Seasons, and Apartment Life. When I got the ultimate collection, I was so excited to play all the other packs. I have two sisters who play the game. We all use to play for an hour each and we would sit and watch each other play all the time. I remember one night I was up until 4am building and playing and my step mom came downstairs and caught me. I was so embarrassed that I got caught but I was having so much fun. I can't run TS2 on my MacBook because the ASPYR version doesn't run with the screen resolution I have my laptop set to. The only way I can play it is when it's connected to my desk monitors. The ASPYR version does not have all the packs and I love Freetime and Apartment Life so much. Thank you for making this video. It was so fun to watch and hear all your stories.
I remember when we got Pets. I raised a cat and when that cat died I was not okay. I think I cried myself to sleep that night. I also remember when my first sims that I let die of old age passed, I had to stop playing and go to my room to process my feelings. When stuff like that would happen, I would. take a day or two off. 😂
@@AdamTLyon I relate so much to taking in 1 hour turns with your siblings 😅😅 honestly same. And yes, having the game for ages without really being able to play it, me too!!
I first played sims 2 in 2007 or 2008 when I was in my early years of primary school and it was back when we were only allowed 1-2 hours of computer time a day before I'd have to swap with my brother to let him go play something else. I remember for the longest time i kept recreating the same sim by the name of Rose and she always owned a flower shop 🥺🤣 I also have vivid memories of playing ts2 one night when I was 8 listening to the 6 illegally downloaded songs I had on my crappy Nokia phone (one of those was Black and Yellow hy Wiz Khalifa 🤣🥴) while my sim was just fishing in her pond outside her house. Love this game so much
@@natayliab1266 hahaha wonderful memories!! We also definitely had those family rules about computer times and needing to take turns with siblings haha - for the Nintendo 64 as well 😎
This was SO fun!! I love how cheeky 12 year old Beth was, sneaking off to open the Christmas gifts before her parents noticed 😂. The first time I played the Sims 2 was in maybe 2005 or 2006, it was definitely after a few expansion packs came out. My cousin had the og Sims 2 game, the one that came with 4 disc that she let me play on her laptop and I was HOOKED. I begged my mother to take me to Target to get my own version and she eventually got me the Sims 2 double deluxe that came with night life and the original game. I remember how SLOW the game ran on my old beast of the computer and how I never let my sims go to lots because the loading was awful 🤣😂. I didn’t care though, I played it for hours and hours. My parents were divorced and I would just install a new game on my dad’s computer playing with a separate game there. Every birthday I would get an expansion pack or a stuff pack until I ended up with apartment life, seasons, celebrations and family fun. Might have had free time as well but I don’t remember for sure. I never stopped playing but I will say CC has brought the game to new life for me. Especially default replacements, default skin replacements were game changers. I think what I love the most about the game are just the humor this, and sims 1, had. Like I would spend ages just reading the build/buy mode item descriptions because they are totally Will Wrights humor. Even the Sims 3 managed to carry some of that foreword. Humor is solely missing in the franchise nowadays and it’s all about milking the fans for all their money. Thanks for this ride down memory lane ❤❤❤
So happy to see my favourite sims 2 creators upload and celebrate our special game! I’m sorry I missed your live-streams today but appreciate you putting something up on RUclips. Cheers ❤
Omigosh Happy 20th Birthday to the Sims 2! 😍 Still a faithful player to this day ❤️ My first two sims were Mary and Henry, with that classic wavy hair that everyone loved and noughties cargo pants... 😄 I'll never forget the disappointment when 12 year old me realised that romance didnt mean *ahem* romance... 🙈 and kept wanting to cheat on his wife 🤣 Thanks for the celebrations and taking a trip down memory lane for us! ❤ 🥰
This game came out when I was 17, and I had a childhood that was... Let's just say "rocky." I was living on my own and had bought an old, piece of crap computer to play this game. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that it took HOURS to load the game. I'm not talking about installing, I'm talking about having it installed, starting the game, taking a shower, having breakfast, reading a bit of a book, cleaning the house... Then the game is finally ready to play. Needless to say, I didn't get very into it. If it crashed, that was it for the day. Since I'm an old lady in my late 30s now, I've been able to play it with all the expansions. I love it so much. Sims 3 will probably always be my favorite (I did play the first one when I was 12 at a friend's house every time I went there) just because I was fully grown and able to afford buying it on a decent laptop and all the expansions. I mean, that's true for Sims 4 as well, but come on. Who in the world that's played all of them prefers 4? I gotta say though, if I had a normal experience playing 2 the first time, it could easily be my favorite. It's so well made.
Oh, the first time I played The Sims 2... I was living on my own at 17 because I was legally emaciated. I was actually married and had my oldest when I was 16. I created myself as a family Sim, of course. I still agree that I would be a family Sim if I were a Sims 2 Sim. I made my partner a romance Sim without knowing what it meant. We're still happily married, and knowing everything I know about Sims now, he's absolutely a knowledge Sim. My Sim partner immediately wanted to cheat on me, and it pissed me off. 😂 Kinda like your sister's experience, honestly. Except it was my ACTUAL husband irl. Also, I never made a Sim version of my family again. I've made MYSELF in Sims 4, but never my family. I get to where we are now, and it makes me anxious to try to decide things that haven't happened, yet.
@@laco403 what an awesome story! Thank you for sharing ❤️ I relate to the waiting HOURS for the game to load haha, I know that pain. So awesome to hear that you and hubby are doing well - knowledge family is always a good combo!!
Happy 20 for TS2 indeed! I was already an adult when TS2 came out so cant relate to the awkwardness of adult themes but I think TS2 still managed to make it safe :D Also kinda can see why few things tho were weird for youngsters and probably if I would have children would trigger me at times BUT depends how my kids would play and what would they download ahahaha :) CC seems more risky rather then the game itself :D
Omg fellow weird religious teenager here. I remember wishing I could play the sims when I was like 15 but thinking it was sinful cause of woohoo and stuff lol. I'm in my twenties now and love playing the game so thankfully a lot has changed hahahaha.
Wanted to add my sim was always the 3rd default face, with that short-ish cut with the side bang. I would always have her in a tank top and those light pink cargo pants. Her name would be I think Jennifer or I’d just give her my name 😂. Also my sim would ALWAYS end up with Don. I don’t know why, I couldn’t resist him. And yes, I do have a history of dating trash men 😂 but that’s another story all together
I don't remember any of my first Sims. Mostly because I was only 4 years old when the second game came out. And only 9 when third one came out. Even my first Sims of Sims 4 are gone. My gallery was working that well.
@@madmuffin4484 hey! I DO get this question a lot but sadly the answer is no I don't, it's on my long-term to do list 😅 I'm always happy to answer specific WCIFs on content that you see
🙋🏽♀️haha yes! My first Sim also had the same hair, eye color, and face but with skin 3, the sweater w collared shirt underneath, and the Jennifer Burb skirt. Her name was Ellen (can’t remember last name either)😂😂
I finally managed to get TS2 working last month! It does seem so far like its the best one for rotational play. P.S.: What you say about your ideal life simulation game having personality with core trait sliders and a chosen selection of minor traits is exactly what I was going to use in a game I was making before I began to doubt I could make a full life simulator on my own.
i had to play sims 2 on my dad's pc cause mine wasnt up to it, i landed up burning out his motherboard with the game, part of the issue was that it was in the sun beam
You were a bit of a brat weren't you Beth. 😂Pinching money and opening gifts. I can't remember my early families. I only know I played one at a time and I built rectangle houses.
Amazed to see you remember so much about your first time playing🥲 I don’t remember much of my first experiences but I was only about 7-8 years old. I did keep getting all the expansion packs after that though and never really moved onto Sims 3! I agree with so many of your points about what makes this game amazing and how so many of its ingredients would go into the perfect life simulation though. Although, open world or even just open neighbourhoods just don’t appeal to me at all, I think just from playing Sims 2 apartments, Sims 3, and Sims 4, I just always find the non-controlled sims to behave in dumb and unrealistic ways so I feel like it would annoy me that they’re doing stupid things or not doing what they’re supposed to while I’m not playing them even though they are sims I’ll be playing rotationally😂 Thanks for taking us down this trip down memory lane, Happy 20 years to The Sims 2 🎉 👏 ❤
@@BellaDovah yeah they would need to have PROPER AI for controlling their behaviour when not being played. My dream would be toggles for what non-player-controlled Sims can and cannot do in the options menu - things like, gain new relationships, advance in careers, go shopping, etc, and then each household have a master on/off switch for whether or not those progression affects them or not. Idk if that makes sense lol. You DO still see your playable Sims 2 Sims out on community lots getting up to mayhem though, so I do think small open areas of the map would be nice. At the minimum Id like it to behave like it does in TS4 where your house is loaded in a small environment that the Sims can go and interact with, while other lots would need to be reloaded - just, actually have proper controls and have the game work properly in not letting your other Sims get up to complete chaos while you're gone 😅😅 Also yeah I remember a tonne! If I had been your age at the time I probably wouldn't have remembered as much -, 12 years old is easier to remember than 7 😅
@@TeaAddict Yeah I like that idea! 🤞 Oh I almost forgot, I didn’t know about The Sims 2 Remake by Lazy Duchess until you mentioned it?! What rock have I been under?! Its very intriguing but Im concerned because someone was rebuilding The Sims 1 in 3D called Simitone but EA shut it down so it wasn’t allowed to continue I believe 😬

This whole video was a lot of fun, and I loved that little montage at the end.
Happy 20th, Sims 2 and all of us who love it so much!! 🥰🥰🥰 Thanks for this celebratory video!
Cheers ❤
Happy 20th anniversary!
Omigosh Happy 20th Birthday to the Sims 2! 😍 Still a faithful player to this day ❤️
My first two sims were Mary and Henry, with that classic wavy hair that everyone loved and noughties cargo pants... 😄 I'll never forget the disappointment when 12 year old me realised that romance didnt mean *ahem* romance... 🙈 and kept wanting to cheat on his wife 🤣
Thanks for the celebrations and taking a trip down memory lane for us! ❤ 🥰
@@x--charlotte--x6980 damn romance Sims 🤣🤣
MY FAVORITE SIMS GAME IS 20!!!!!!!!
Happy 20 for TS2 indeed!
I was already an adult when TS2 came out so cant relate to the awkwardness of adult themes but I think TS2 still managed to make it safe :D
Also kinda can see why few things tho were weird for youngsters and probably if I would have children would trigger me at times BUT depends how my kids would play and what would they download ahahaha :) CC seems more risky rather then the game itself :D
Omg fellow weird religious teenager here. I remember wishing I could play the sims when I was like 15 but thinking it was sinful cause of woohoo and stuff lol. I'm in my twenties now and love playing the game so thankfully a lot has changed hahahaha.
@@anakincrywalker8904 hahaha I feel that!! - that scandalous makeout butt-wiggle... Avert your eyes!! 🙈🙈😅
@@Bobaily 🤣🤣 ah Don. Bless him. Also the light pink cargo pants 👌🏼👌🏼 choice lol
I don't remember any of my first Sims. Mostly because I was only 4 years old when the second game came out. And only 9 when third one came out. Even my first Sims of Sims 4 are gone. My gallery was working that well.
I’m sure you get this question a lot - do you have a mods / cc list somewhere? Your game looks AMAZING
@@madmuffin4484 hey! I DO get this question a lot but sadly the answer is no I don't, it's on my long-term to do list 😅 I'm always happy to answer specific WCIFs on content that you see
So we all had the same first sim 😂
@@simmymom 100% 😅😅
🙋🏽♀️haha yes! My first Sim also had the same hair, eye color, and face but with skin 3, the sweater w collared shirt underneath, and the Jennifer Burb skirt. Her name was Ellen (can’t remember last name either)😂😂
I finally managed to get TS2 working last month! It does seem so far like its the best one for rotational play.
P.S.: What you say about your ideal life simulation game having personality with core trait sliders and a chosen selection of minor traits is exactly what I was going to use in a game I was making before I began to doubt I could make a full life simulator on my own.
@@BlackJar72 true! In a small bathroom multiple doors can definitely be a good idea
i had to play sims 2 on my dad's pc cause mine wasnt up to it, i landed up burning out his motherboard with the game, part of the issue was that it was in the sun beam
Yess 🎉 whole town simulator. I never appreciated either as a kid but as an adult 🤌🏻 top tier ❤
You were a bit of a brat weren't you Beth. 😂Pinching money and opening gifts.
I can't remember my early families. I only know I played one at a time and I built rectangle houses.
@@joandsarah77 this is why I tell Paul that we are in trouble when I say that Emi is like me 😅😅
@@TeaAddict Well you will know what to look for at least. 😂
At the minimum Id like it to behave like it does in TS4 where your house is loaded in a small environment that the Sims can go and interact with, while other lots would need to be reloaded - just, actually have proper controls and have the game work properly in not letting your other Sims get up to complete chaos while you're gone 😅😅
Also yeah I remember a tonne!
@@BellaDovah they're hoping this remake of TS2 will be fine since it will never be commercialised or set for sale but yeah it's always a worry!!
I haven't seen any updates on Open TS2 for a while so I'm hoping the project is still going - that said I haven't really checked haha
